  • I read a Canadian army vet's take on the switch from SLR to M16. It was a great relief for him having a lightweight rifle for long tabs/patrols instead of the much heavier SLR & when he finally had to shoot his rifle the M16 didn't beat him up with recoil, unlike the SLR,+ it was much more easier to control/aim. Then there was a larger amount of ammo on-hand too.

  • @retreathell - is that the proper way to tactically use NV? beam, and NV on head mount or NV on on rifle behind red dot? IDK, just asking for the proper S/F way.

  • @leongaines Not gonna act like I'm an expert with NV, because I'm certainly not. I was just a Marine grunt back in 2003 and didn't get hardly any instruction on using IR lasers with out NODs for engagement. So everything I've learned has been from others over the past 3 years, with a little common sense thrown in for good measure. Also read Kyle Lamb's "Green Eyes, Black Rifles" book & got good info there.

So my answer: I don't know. But I'm mostly doing it right. I'm still learning more :)

  • Does this guy keep posting S/F after everything because he was Special Forces or something?

  • @Tsteve08 S/F is short for Semper Fidelis, Latin for "Always Faithful." It's the US Marine Corps motto that we live by.

  • Looks fun

  • Cool video!!! Are NVGs and PEQ-15s for sale to civilians without an FFL or class 3?

  • @retreat hell I read your comment about the hatred of the pvs-7 and had to ask have you tryed taking the eyecups off i tryed it and now im great with my nvg

  • @mikethemaniac1 its not my PVS-7 unit, but whenever I get the chance to use it again I'll give it a try. Thanks!

  • I know about the calibre difference but didn't realise it was so low with the 5.56.

The main reason we Brits went over to the 5.56 was due to Northern Ireland. The SLR was way overpowered for urban combat. You could shoot someone, the round go through their body, through a brick wall and kill someone on the other side as well. Great for war, crap for urban.

Oh and one thing I really hated about the SLR... the iron sights used to chip my damned specs lol.

  • @NeoMorphUK Ah hell, I'm an idiot! I was totally thinking about the wrong damn rifle there, my bad, man. I was thinking about the SA80/L85 current issued assault rifle, hence why I asked about the "standard optic."

In that case, hell yes an AR15 in 5.56 is WAAAYY softer shooting than a FAL! It's not really so much the 5.56 round, at least not by itself. The direct impingement gas system, weighted buffer and recoil spring, among other things makes it a very smooth and soft shooting gun.

    S/F

  • You guys have the coolest toys.

  • I can't believe how little recoil that AR15 has. I remember my L1A1 SLR kicking like a mule when I fired it (Brit Army). Mind you we did have our gas regulators turned up full to stop the damned thing jamming.

  • @NeoMorphUK That's interesting, I never heard that before. Then again I know next to nothing hardly about that rifle. I've always wanted to an L1A1 though. Didn't you guys use some pretty hot ammo, too, that also contributed to the increased recoil? I could swear I remember reading something like that a year or so ago on some damn website. Maybe not though...

Overall how did you and your mates feel about your issued rifles? Is that optic that it comes standard with pretty good?

    S/F

  • @NeoMorphUK

its 5.56 compared to 7.62.. big difference in recoil.

  • That is one bad ass set up you got there!!!!!!!

  • what rail you runnin on your mod1., they dont use the pri on it do they , isnt that the mod0., somethin like a RIS2 or a LT or what

  • @MultiSr16 Yup, the Mk12 Mod 1 uses the KAC free-float RAS. I've always loved the look of the Mod 1 so much more. But a lot of dudes out there actually prefer the original Mod 0 style. To each his own.

    Either way, I LOVE mine!

    S/F

  • @RetreatHell dammit thats right, i knew that ., yeah the kac rail is much tighter all around then the pri.,, i dont really like the material the arms mounts n swan sleeve is made out of., what lower u using on it., u using arms 22 rings>? kac bipos mount or arms>?, ops inc muzzle break>?

  • @MultiSr16 I don't like any ARMS shit. Lower is BCM, as is the upper, so it's actually a complete Bravo Company rifle. It's not built to spec b/c I don't like the specs, lol! NightForce 2.5-10X24mm in Larue SPR QD mount, Harris bipod w/Larue mount, and Surefire muzzle brake since I have a Surefire 212 can. However, I might eventually buy the Ops 12th suppressor. Not sure yet though, as it would literally be the only gun I'd use it on, so not sure if it really makes sense for me or not.

    S/F

  • @RetreatHell sick build., yeah i dont like the specs either., really outdated except the kac rail is still good., yeah i agree , its amazing how high quality BCM uppers n shit are., i jus bought one of there ris2m4a1 16 inch uppers with there ion bond bolt carrier, n it is very nice, the freakin things got a hammer forged barrel in it too, im really considering another one already n i jus got the fuckn thing., anyways, thx for the info, n happy veterans day

  • @RetreatHell YEAH ARMS SUX., n dick swan needs to go get fuckd

  • @RetreatHell nah, dont buy the can , ops are really good cans n all, but the surefire are absolutely the best cans on the market period., haha if anything, buy another surefire , like the new micro:) for a block 2 buildhahaha

  • @MultiSr16 Yeah I recently decided I'm getting the new Surefire Mini (the tiny Micro isn't commercially available yet I don't think). Not sure how soon I'll be able to buy it though, as I'm strapped right now on gun funds since I got into the expensive night vision shit. But I may sell an upper or something to pay for it, not sure yet.

Happy Veterans Day to you as well!

  • whats the best pair of nvgs cheaper than 1000 dollars im looking for a pair but cant kind find any that are desent for less than 1000

  • @XxNickSSxX44 because they dont exist., save your money n buy from tnvc.com

  • how much did the IR illuminator set you back?

  • How do you like the PVS-14, would you rather have goggles?

  • @M4CARBINE556 Hm.. How could I answer this in a positive way? Lets try this: I FUCKING HATE NV goggles with every facet of my being! LOL!!

Seriously though, man I tripped and fell while patrolling and humping up mountains in the dark countless times while wearing those blasted PVS-7 goggles over my eyes. I developed quite a hatred for them, and honestly feel that the PVS-14 NV monocular is the best option available from those 2 particular units. Your situational awareness is just WAY better!

  • Cool vid--enjoyed it--love the gear.

  • @MrM2hb Thanks dude. Hopefully sometime within the next decade I'll save up for a thermal optic, lol!! I'd love to link up with you sometime and bring our armories together for a really kickass range trip! I live in Texas, so maybe we could meet roughly halfway over at LockAndLoad's place :)

    S/F

  • @RetreatHell That would be fun. I did order an/pvs 22 it won't be here until December. I bought a new rifle yesterday to put it on. LWRC M6 A2 16 inch MRE 556 have not shot it yet--looks and feels good though. I love looking through you NV in the vids really cool. ir laser--I'm jealous--My supplier has a hard time finding them.

  • @MrM2hb PVS-22 eh? Congrats, I officially hate you... a lot.

Kidding. That's awesome, man! I used one a while back and they kick some serious ass. On a sniper rifle or SPR, sitting in front of your day scope, they are one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. It's so clear & you can keep your same dope on the optic instead of messing with your BZO.

I'm hoping to get one sometime in the next 2 years for my Mk12 Mod1 SPR, but it depends on a lot of factors. Cool new blaster, too!

    S/F

  • I love these videos.

  • you need to get a helmet my man that skull crusher is a POS

  • @ridah925 You ain't lying, man! Although it wasn't that bad the night this was filmed, since I was passing it off to a buddy back and forth. So I never had it on long enough for it to start hurting ("crushing") my head.

I actually received my PT Helmets A-Alpha (Half Cut version, with the VAS shroud and standard Rhino swing-arm mount) helmet just TWO days after this, which kinda pissed me off. Bad timing, dammit! LOL!

But I tried it on the night I got it and it's MUCH better!!!

    S/F

  • @RetreatHell oh yah thats the way to go for sure!!

  • i thought IR laser illuminators/targeters weren't available to civilians due to regulations by the fda? how'd you guys get a hold of them, military/le?

  • Need some aspirin after wearing the vice all night?

Quick question, couldn't tell from the vid (can't see target or holdover on my dainty netbook), but were you running the lasers 'parallel' or at 50-200?

That amber filter looks NICE, real easy on the eyes, not so blinding.

BTW dude you look the fucking terminator with your SPR ;D 5* for baddassery.

  • @jebustheone Both, sort of... I TRIED to run my PEQ-15 with a parallel BZO, but I fucked it up and was actually shooting about 12" low at 100 yards, so I had to aim at the head to hit the chest. Need to re-do it. The PEQ-2 was set the day before, so to make things easy I mostly BZO'd it almost in the middle of the crosshairs, but just a hair low and right, attempting a parallel BZO but probably not perfect. It's HARD to get that just right, but I plan to have a friend help me next time with it.

  • Hey man are you the one in the wheel chair... If so i think your picture is on the back of the latest bravo company catalog with travis haley.. Cool man

  • @ketel1 Yup, that would be me! Thankfully they printed the pic of my left side, which is my good side! :)

Although its hard to tell from that small picture on the back cover, when it was taken I was teaching Travis how to run a carbine properly. He's getting better at it, I think! LOL!!! ;)

    S/F

  • @RetreatHell Awsome man

  • Now we are talking.. Dang I can't wait till we get out for some night shooting again.. thanks for the "fix" until then

    Thant illuminator is awesome

  • @GunWebsites Hell, I've watched your "Shooting the M16 at night" video at least a dozen times over the past year, hoping I'd someday have some of that awesome stuff... now I do :)

    Thanks, bro!

    S/F

  • @RetreatHell

That is cool .. lets meet half way and have a night shoot in NM one of these days!!

  • @GunWebsites Sounds great, lets do it!! ;)

    S/F

  • That is some high tech stuff @@;; at least for me... Last time I bought a night vision google was from ToyRus (not even joking) hehe.... It was inferred night vision toy, not the real deal you have there. ToyRus should really open a department that sells high tech "toys" for Adults....wait... that didn't sound like I intended it to...Anyways~~~Look like you guys had some real fun!

  • NICE! very good video quality and looks like a lot of fun.

  • i like the contrast between with the nv where u can see and then without and you cant see a darn thing pretty cool.

  • Looks like so much fun, thanks for posting this video.

  • I wish I'd had that much trigger time using the PEQ-15.

  • Awesome video. This is one of a very few NODS/IR laser shooting videos on YT and it's deff the best!!

  • @Knightsarmamentlover Thanks a lot, man, I appreciate the compliments!

You'll be happy to know I should have my ATF Form-4 approved here in a couple months for my Knights Armament NT4-QDSS suppressor, and will make sure to do a vid for you of me shooting my KAC SR-15 E3 with the new NT4 attached at night with NODs and my PEQ-15. Should be pretty cool!

  • Hey, I wanted your opinion on Wolf and Brown Bear Ammunition. Theres an Itialin one called FIOCCHI. Well let me know where I can get a good Holographic site for a good price.

  • @Iam4armalitem15 I'm not picky, I shoot everything through my guns. Obviously the cheap stuff like Wolf won't always run as well as more quality stuff, but it's not a big deal for training. However, Wolf 5.56mm ammo will sometimes get stuck in Bushmaster barrels and other "budget" & lower-end carbines due to their chambers being out of spec and not being true "5.56," but it's not too big a deal and is more annoying than anything having to pound out stuck cases.

    I use Aimpoints, not EOTechs.

  • damn that looks like fun thats why I want to join the USMC 0311 were you in the military brother?

  • @miltnxc123 Whoa, easy there! You gotta go through MCRD San Diego and become an actual US Marine before you go callin' me "brother." ;)

Yup, I was an 0311 grunt and served in Iraq during the 2003 invasion, all the way from Kuwait to Baghdad up at the front with RCT-5. Was wounded in a gunfight a couple days after we took Baghdad.

Good luck and hope you have fun in boot camp ;)
