The remake was so BAD & so LAME that I had to go to A&E to have my buttocks unclenched. The BBC is finished. I just want them to sack that fat Welshman who reads the news.
it wasn't bullshite, it was just different. i liked it because i found it more realistic. im fed up of this "the first was the best" crap. it's not always the case. i think that they were both good, just in different ways
Why do the BBC never show the original show since I have never seen a whole episode. I saw it advertised on the tv & I got excited until I realized it was the new one. Why can't they repeat the originals rather than inundate us with third-rate remakes?
I didn't get where I am today by doing third rate remakes of classic sitcoms. Neither Mrs CJ nor I have ever done a third rate remake of a classic sitcom.
yep the new version is dire beyond belief. all involved really should have known better and Fay Ripley is just embarrassing in it, Script ? what script ?
I don't think it's too bad to be honest. It has its moments and keeps in with the original series, his moaning about the trains, the "I didnt get to where I am today" bits, his boss's initials and the fact he has to walk by Sunshine Desserts to get to work. As far as remakes go, it's quite good.
Wow...how bad was that!..Im glad Leonard Rossiter isnt around to see his brilliant characterisation of the David Nobbs creation totally ripped to shreds by Martin Clunes and a truly pitiful script.Time really has moved on hasnt it?...gags about penis size menstruation and thrush left me wishing for a re-run of the original and thinking of ways to get a refund, however minimal, of the part of my licence fee that contributed to this drivel.....
Astounding that the state media corporation chooses to remake classics like this (very badly indeed) instead of pursuing decent new scripts and pilots.
Why couldn't they have put the money into Meeebox or something?
I had my reservations like most people about the new Reggie Perrin, however i have to admit watching the new one, it was a good twist on the format whilst keeping some of the elements that we all know and love. Clunes doesnt try and copy the original character and does it his way whilst retainin some of the old personality traits that we've all come to love. I think people should move on about this notion comedys past glory, dont complain about it, just dont watch the new programs .
I wonder if psychologists have had things to say about Reggie Perrin. He wasn't mopy; he just kept climbing uphill all the time. As funny as the series is, it's hard to not notice how seriously depressed he is. I'm sure a lot of us well on into adulthood can identify with him at times.
Communists, Maoists, Trotskyists, neo-Trotskyists, krypto-Trotsykists, Union leaders, Communist union leaders, aetheists, agnostics, long-haired weirdos, short-haired weirdos, vandals, hooligans, football supporters, namby-pamby probation officers, rapists, Papists, Papist rapists, foreign surgeons, head shrinkers (who ought to be locked up), Wedgwood Benn, keg bitter, punk rock, glue sniffers, Play for Today, squatters, Clive Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, Up Jenkins, Up Everybody's Chinese Restaurants.
Maybe Carol Thatcher could be in the remake, goin on about all those tennis playing golliwogs! 'Why do you think Wimbledon is full of golliwogs?' !!!!
They're going to re-make Reginald Perrin? Worst idea ever. Saw that Martin Clunes doing a show about dogs. An upper-class accent & a bit of a bore, I thought.
After raising our kids on Monty Python here in Texas in the late 60s, we needed a jolt! Perrin was a god-send. What Brilliant acting and writing.. one of the all time classics of Britdom... like the other lad below said, why can't they write 1/200 this well anymore? Leonard is a pure genius and rivals Basil Fawlty in my humble opinion.....
I don't have many heroes in life, i didn't get where i am today by having heroes. But Reginald Perrin is one. i might not go to work tomorrow but go down to the dorset close:)
Absolutely great! Brings back happy memories of chuckling at this with my Dad when I was a kid. "Let's run it up the flagpole and see if the fishes bite".
Wouldn't it be great if we could reverse roles like in this comedy sketch and get our own back on some of those nasty bosses we have probably all had at some time what fun it would be.Love this comedy.

Can one of you Brits post The Legacy of Reginald Perrin on here? We don't have it on dvd here in the states but I know it is out on Region 2. Cheers!

@jimmywires500 : I think that covers it. Clunes version is unobtrusive, and all very well, but it will never touch Leonard Rossiter.

The new one is faster paced, the older one is just annoyingly painfully slow.

Doc Martin is a good show though

Should never have been remade. Brilliant writing/acting and whilst still resonates today, it was grounded in the 1970s.
Worringly, as I've aged, I now 'get' this show humour - but it's not a comedy, its a tragedy & that's ironically why it's so funny.

what's the name of the other actor in the last clip? I'm sure I've seen him before?

ref: name of the other actor - Geoffrey Palmer, an excellent actor who starred in "As Time Goes By" with Dame Judi Dench.

sorry, i recognised palmer but was referring to the the guy in the clip starting at 2:20 . I think he might be in yes minister?

Clunes is terrible in the role, the only use I could ever imagine for him would be as a very slightly posh sink plunger.

I long for the return of the days when TV programmes were actually good - like this one.
Nowadays I don't watch TV at all: it's full of cheap "reality" rubbish, like Strictly Celebrity Chipmunks Dancing On Ice While Singing Karaoke.
If they started actually making programmes with any thought in them - like the classic Reggie Perrin - then I would start watching again.
