  • beautiful engine

  • They are pure, majestic locomotives.

Looking at the whole scene around the train, even the cars come down to a crawl to have the best view of it! Steam trains running on train networks today could probably make the whole state stop by just about everyone hearing a whistle and running out to see them!!!!

  • @MUNCHLAXSNORLAX22 Of course they would just like what legendary engineman Jack Sparkes said It doesn't matter if its a traction engine, steam roller, steam boat or steam engine you just want turn around and look at it. Just like magic.

  • chuga chuga chuga chuga chuga chuga chuga chuga chuga chuga !!!

  • Great vid. I heard there may be boiler problems with the new construction.

  • Oh I love this! Excellent work!

  • will be riding with the 3801 any chance i get after it's boiler and firevox are replaced later this year :D

  • Very similar to watching 2 castles tackling Dainton. Type it in to see what I mean.

  • I love the sound of the first whistle that played. It sounds almost harmonic.

  • @CaptainDarthy Yeah me too!!!!!!

  • throughwestmail a manually signaled line is safer then track circuited line as this line is running under absolute block working meaning that each section has its own staff and no train is permitted into the section without the staff and there are catch points to derail any train that aproaches the section to protect it so with only electric staff its very safe

as for reopening line the track is not suitable to run beyond balmoral and the bus services the comunities along the way

  • love it

  • brilliant video but could i ask what are the views on austrailian railways about trespass and health and safety etc

just had a few wonders after seeing the clip at 0:54

  • @jules46443

there arent any tresspassers law alog this line cause its not a comersial line

this line only gets used a few times a yr

  • that may be so but if it was owned by the national network i.e. in england it is network rail coz there are a few similar lines (not preserved) like this in england. if you trespass on the national network in england and they catch you they will be on you quicker than you can leave

  • @jules46443

soon enough this mite be owned by the NSW rail network(city rail) cause thay want this line fixed up for diesel trains

they ve already started renivating the train museum where they hold the steam festival(where this train was goin)

  • think i saw an article on that in steam railway mag. wasn't there a charter to that mueseum tripple headed with steam including the freshly overhauled hunter?

  • not sure

it shouldnt be fixed up though

this is like the most historical line in the wollondilly area

the loop line should be left alone

  • ive been in the cab iv 3801 i even blew her whistle , an amazing engine sounded great comin up the incline there awusome thanks 4 posting..

  • Thee words.

    Yeah Fuck Yeah!!

  • i like the train in all just not the color

  • i personally have ridden the line from the picton point frame into thirlmere and then onto colo vale on a fairmont speeder and i have to say that is the best like in NSW. coming back from picton back up the loop to thirlmere museum we passed a 10 car explorer and it was the best experience ive ever had on a trike. and ive personally walked through 3830 but unfortinately at the time 3801 was being rebuilt. we had the oppertunity to see her but we didnt wanna see her in that state. Beautiful Loco.

  • I second the motion

  • Write to your local member of NSW Parliament to get this line re-commissioned back to a serviceable rail line. Have a few Diesel Railcar's replace the bus service between picton and Bowral. The Diesel Railcar can shuttle like the bus already does, rail uses 1/3rd of the Diesel a bus does and can carry larger volume of people, plus does less damage to the roads, because rail can handle the heavy loads. Plus rail is alot safer to travel also.

  • A few problems with that

    1. Thirlmere Train Museum has access rights.

    2. The demand just isn't there to warrant 2 cars or longer Endeavour Railcars.

    3. Rails are more expensive to maintain.

4.There would be hardly any load difference because roads don't buckle with lots of cars. They buckle in extreme heat and cold.

    5. How is rail 'safer'. The line is manually signalled.

  • Awesome sight as the train rounds the curve into view, I think it was also good to choose a location below rail level for the shot, thus accentuating the size of the engines. I liked the regular distribution of photographers too!
