Wow, everyone said they're retards on gooftube, you're actually one of them, congratulations. It's a clip from the movie "Break'in" from the early eighties with an electronic music track from the same time, you know, when your parents were listening to Madonna and you didn't exist.
TOMY you're a stiff jackass! This shit is so old, I'm surprised anyone still had it; well not really because it's from Breakin and I'm sure people have that Beat Street wlld style. classic 80s hiphop movies.
There's a better quality version out there with the title "Breakin' - Turbo's Broom-Dance".
This scene is a tribute to the legendary Fred Astaire coat hanger dance, which is out there with the title 'Fred Astaire - Coat Hanger Dancing! From "Royal Wedding"'
hip hop was never "innocent". it was just really censored back in those days. i used to be a dj way back when hip hop started getting big and believe me those house parties with mc battles got pretty crazy.
ok..kraftwerk is a totally different genre of hip hop music than the "money and pussy" hip hop..so i dont think you can really compare the two. my point is that even back in the day artists talked about "money and pussy" in their songs...only they did it in a very censored way. otherwise labels would not press the records and sell them. just a sample of what i mean..the song rappers delight came out four years before kraftwerks' tour de france. here are some verses:
rappers delight (1979): "i got bodyguards, i got two big carsthat definitely ain't the wack
i got a lincoln continental and a sunroof cadillac..hear me talkin bout checkbooks, credit cardsmore money than a sucker could ever spend.."..if this song came out today im sure they would throw in a "fuck" or "pussy" in there somewhere.
my point is 173dan..hip hop wasnt more "innocent" back in the days...just more censored. the lyrics are different but the idea basically the same. besides, kraftwerk's genre of music was more about breakdancing than mc'ing. the money and pussy hip hop is just another branch on the giant tree that is HIP HOP. my tastes go a different route..but thats besides the point.
You got it all wrong here. Kraftwerk's earliest influence to Hip Hop was Trance Europe Express back during the mid late 70's that influenced Afrikaa Bambatta. KraftWerk's album Computer World would be the album that define their influence in hip hop. A song called 'Numbers' is one of those songs. My brother started dancing back during the early 80/81.
i wasnt talking about any timeline or anything like that. my only point was that hiphop wasnt all that innocent back in the days as romeropablo says. nowadays you can get away with saying alot more than back in the day. but that doesnt mean they didnt talk about the same things (money and pussy) in those days as they do now. back then no label would release profane material. you only heard them at parties.
ever heard of Blowfly? he had a song in 1965 called "dirty rap". its considered the first ever recorded hip hop song..and its more profane than a mofo..hehe.
Misconceptions. Rap is a term started during the late 60's early 70's. It was a cool word like the slang that is used today. Listen to some of the old Gangsta movies 'Mack.' and stuff from the early 70's. The word rap means (let me talk to you. Aka let me rap to you.) This is where the term rap comes from which shouldn't be a surprised considering that one of the earliest mainstream was 'Rappers Delight.' BUT the rapper actually comes from the old disco dj from the 70's.
Well in general sex and subtle profanity has been used in several music genres. The difference is the quality and lack of creativity as far as I'm concerned. Even in the old b&w movies sex was discussed or expressed in a subtle way. But there is a difference, and I'm talking about more than getting away with it. One of the major issues is that the media allow kids to be exposed to what was only allowed for adults 20 to 30 years ago.
well its considered the first hiphop song because in it he talks(raps)in rhyme. and "rap" is exactly what they do in hiphop songs..right? they talk in rhyme. your right about the level of creativity though. but considering how censored everything was then..you had to be creative when talking about sex..so as to not be too profane or offensive. nowadays you can say anything you want in a song...so its pretty direct and to the point. very dry indeed. i guess we agree on that.
there have been other songs and people that have been defined or classified as rappers. In my opinion the rap style really initially started after the death of disco and disco dj that used his 70's rhyming skills with the turn table (something that was a trademark of the dj. Rhymes and turn table.) to a different level. Those are the original rappers. And that's where rap actually originated from.
if you wanna talk about "rapping" origins..you can go back as far as "scat singing" or even "talking blues"..before there even was a dj. hiphop was born when young black and latino kids started dj'ing house and block parties in the early 70's in new york. they would loop break beats from records. not too long after..mc's starting rapping over the beat. b-boys were anti-disco. they considered tht music for the middle class and rich..while hiphop was from the ghetto for the ghetto.
Actually you did both. Just go back and quote yourself regarding "Blowfly." I only discuss relevant topics since you did addressed Blowfly. I added that Blowfly actually wasn't the first rapper because rhymes have always been around. Again, my point is, rap started from the Disco DJ and even the Disco DJ had it's roots from another music genre. Money and Pussy started during the early 80's and early 90's hence NWA and 2 Live Crew.
breakin it's the movie but the dance he is performin it's call the Electric Boogaloo or boogie and it's inspire by funk and krafwerk's original Electronic.
"Breakin'" never won a Golden Globe, Oscar or something like that, but it was a blockbuster for mexican teenagers in the 80's. Obviously because of the breakdance performances, specially this one.
Yeah, this definately brings back memories of breakdancing in the kitchen where there was a slippery floor. It's funny though, I could have sworn that Ten Speed's cover version was used in the original movie... guess I should rent it. Awesome though!
