@kellyslater12345 Not much of one then. A 727 is a 100-200 passenger, 3 engine aircraft with 2 engines attached to the fuselage, 1 engine running through the tail and with a T-tail configuration. The 747 is a jumbo jet that has 4 engines attached to the wings, is a double decker, and has a standard tail configuration. Also, the guy in the video says it's a 747.

@40390576 I'm from Québec, Canada, where the CL-415 and its predecessor the CL-215 where created. It's the ONLY aircraft designed speficaly to fight fires, all others are convertions of seaplanes. Th CL-415 can fill it's tanks by skimming any body of water near the fire (small lake or river, ocean) and drop a lot more water than the converted B-747.

The thing is the aeroplane is limited to carry only an amount equal to its own weight.

Its the same with all fixed wing aircraft.

Your still better off with a fleet of purpose built helicopters to do the same job more effectively and for probably less than the astronomical costs of a Boeing 747, an aircraft which is designed to carry passengers and air cargo, not to fight fires.

This plane is not very usefull if there enough lakes to use something like a CL-215, because it needs to land and be refilled with water on the ground.

You couldnt skim a lake with this it would probably rip into pieces and the engines also are to close to the water

However this aircraft would be useful for regions where open bodies of water are not within an acceptable range for aircraft like the CL215 to be effective, but in my region, nothing can compete with the 215's im used to seeing

If they did, the fires would be out in no time and the local firefighters would loose money (they're paid for each day they spend on the fire).

A CL-415 is far better : it can fill its tanks in a few seconds by skimming any water body (lake, river, ocean). Any flat water within a few miles from the fire would do. A lot more water per hour than any big tanker (747 or A380) that has to land to fill its tanks.

In addition to that, you're not seeing the wider strategy; 3 of the 747's in rotation will keep more water on the fire than a small fleet of A CL-415s. But yes A CL-415's are great planes and have their place, as do the B747's.

They are paramount in slowing the spread of fire and can be used to rescue via creating a safety corridor for firefighters to escape from an out of control situation. The strategic placing of these aircraft can create a response to fire within 1 hr anywhere in the US and additional units can be on location within 5 hr from anywhere in the US.

20,000 lbs is nothing unless they meant to say 20.000 gal. now that is alot of water. But if it is 20,000 lbs of water that is nothing. The b-707 can take off with over 180,000 of fuel. If they covert just half the fuel load to water that is 90,000 lbs of water or retardant.
