the ending was not supposed to be realistic in the comic thats whats good about it. It was a good contrast to the realism they tried to portray throughout much of the story. I thought the movie ending was totally lame and was kind of a symbol for why this movie didnt work.
Excellent movie. Very faithful and anything that was added was awesome, such as Nite Owl's reaction to rorschachs death, always thought that was left pretty unexplored in the comic. The visuals were beautiful, the costumes were fantastic and improved the original ones, the themes of the comic were well captured. Although it was quite long(necessary) and i've read the book many times, i was never bored, my attention was kept throughout. The acting fitted the characters, great music, score: 8.7
the whole movie was a good idea, badly done, it tried to be to much. it was boring, long, unnessacary at times, and unexplained. i give it a d+ and it only got that, because it had times of interest, and the plot was good. but mostly just a complete unorginized mess.
well the whole notion of the movie was to literally adapt the comic to the big screen thinking it would work equally well. And for comic geeks like me and Don we already knew what to expect so it worked for us. it was hard for us to see it as a movie.
But for an outsider like you It's too much of an inside-joke type thing where if you don't get all the subtle references you can't really "get" it.
So, really, we're both right.
Of course Watchmen isn't REALLY about superheroes at all.

yep, different strokes for different folks.
I'll bet if you read the comic book you'd be surprised how it's able to almost the same story 100 times better than the movie did.
Let me know if you want to borrow it.
