This one and the Nic Cage one have nothing to do with each other other than the title. One is a serious movie. The other is a comedy. I don't see why people even compare them. Werner Herzog should have chosen a different title for his.
I have just bought the so called uncut version there is a song/rap tune missing where he go's into the hospital to see the nun when she has been raped -Th etune go' somthing like hey mr bad ass your mother so low she sucked a dick of a maggot?? why was it cut anybody ? i watched this film about 15 years ago on channel 4 and it wasn't cut then?
@TheCorruptA I think you're refeering to the song "Signifying Rapper" by Schooly D. It was removed because it sampled "Kashimr" by Led Zepplin without being cleared by the band and upon viewing the movie, Jimmy Page objected strongly to its use.
@FiswaT You are completely correct: Keitel does deserve a fucking oscar for Bad Lieutenant, he gave one of the most powerful performances of all time.
I was watching the Nick Cage Bad Lieutenant today, it was blasphemy compared to this classsic. I remember watching the original when it came out feeling like I just watched a movie that meant something. The new Bad Lieutenant had nothing to it, shallow and cheap.
Reyes from NJ. I served with him in the USMC. He was a great Marine squad leader, but he was just like the Bad Lieutenant. I miss you, you crazy S.O.B
Just saw the version Herzog directed with Cage and I have to try and be as fair as possible. That crap that Herzog put out was horrible. The movie had no depth was badly written, and Cage as well as others were horrible in their acting. There is no way in the world you can compare these two films. Ferrera did a much better job directing and Keitel was awesome.
What makes me sick is Herzog said "Who the hell is Abel Ferrera? I've never even heard of him or his little movie" Fucking bastard. Herzog couldn't fucking depict emotion through a single film while Ferrera let's the film direct itself and let's the actors actually act. Look how much emotion is through each scene of his films...Driller Killer, Ms. 45, Bad Lieutenant, King Of New York, all should have won some type of awards.
It would be cool to make a trailer of it using the "Schooly D" soundtrack that was banned after Jimmy Page sued him for using "Kashmir" as it's basis.
@DERBYSHIRELOYAL I"m with you all the way on that, what the fuck gives Cage the right to do that?!?! That's like somebody remaking Taxi Driver, you know what I mean?!?
@aqinthe FUCK HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!! And by the way, it's already out on dvd, go out and watch it, it's actually not that bad. Nothing like the Abel Ferrrara film, not even fucking close, but still pretty good.
@jamesbluntslunts I hate nick Cage and that he was in the remake makes me hate him anymore. On a differnet topic I saw you'r channel and the Wire = best show ever.
This was a deep film....i remember seeing this 4 tha first time and actually almost got a lil emotional myself....its definately not 4 tha weak of heart...this a film that captures all audiences...of all kind its ranked 10 outta 10 in my book the best movie hands DOWN!!! peace...
I remember when i first watched this film. I left the cinema feeling totaly blown away. I couldn`t stop thinking about it for days even weeks. This is a true classic, (difficult to watch at times but true life is like that anyway) in which Harvey`s performance is simply outstanding.
my top 5 fav films..this one is special classic.. even inspires me to use it for userIDs,ebay, space etc but, i add wife to the title ending..thank you for for this! love it!
It's drug money. The young guy in this scene is the drug dealer that the Lieutenant "chased" up the stairs earlier in the movie. The guy he said "what are you, a drug counselor?" to. The Lieutenant fronted him a big sack of coke and the kid said he'd have his money in a few days.
i love how the harvey keitels character is also a religious person and hes not all bad like it seems...this movie really took me places and it is abel ferrara's masterpiece
Aaargh, there's just so many great moments and lines in this film! I love the scene where, after losing and now owing the bookie $60,000, he goes to the club specifically to meet the bookie's intermediary, arrives late, and responds to the intermediary's opening question "You got the money?" with a straight faced "What money?" Brilliant, brilliant line.
I have this on DVD. When I watched it on cable years ago, I remember him being way more derogatory toward Daryl Strawberry. It seems some dialogue had be edited on the DVD. Does anyone know if this is true?
it´s been a long time, i´ve watched this movie! on november 22nd the film is going to be shown in a very small PROGRAMM-KINO in wiesbaden......... i´m about to watch this film for the 40th time........ but this time with my girlfriend! LOL........
Man, Abel Ferrara is a brilliant director. He made some bad movies, like the cheesy 80's flick The Gladiator and China Girl is not good either. But films like The Funeral, The Blackout, King of New York, The Addiction and ofcourse Bad Lieutenant are VINTAGE CINEMA. Scorsese once said that Bad Lieutenant is the only movie he wished he had made. That's something..
It is like watching a car wreck happen again and again and again. It's up to you if that's what you want to see. But anyone nastalgic for the 80's mets and a fictional series against the dodger, than that might help.

@EvilOak27 I f you are so informed, then what is it? A sequel? Because that's what I assumed it was....
eraserheadtoker 1 year ago
@eraserheadtoker It's a completely different story, different characters, and different location.
It has Bad Lieutenant in the title and both movies have detectives hooked on drugs but other than that the movies aren't the same.
I liked both. The Herzog movie had more humor and wasn't as depressing but both are totally worth seeing IMO.
