Myself, I think I would have done it up like the "Red Baron", but red is my color. My question to the artist. I'm reading it right, that you airbrushed the exhaust? If so, I have to say that that part alone blows my mind. With all the shadows you put in it, even at different angles it was hard to tell that it was painted like that. One would almost think that it was cut into the body of the car. Most excellent job on this one bro. Keep up the killer work.
@berkelusa Actually, Messerschmitt Bf 110s ( twin engine heavy fighters) of 3 Staffel, ZG.26 (the famous Horst Wessel unit) were decorated with sharks teeth. Please check out this site: h
@kwclayton You're right about the basic concept, but the only photos I could find of the ZG26's BF's had a white and red mouth, of quite a different shape. I'm not an expert, and I would sort of doubt any connection between a German bomber unit and Chennault's Flying Tigers. However there's no doubt that what they painted on here was sourced from the AVG's RAF P-40's. Unless of course you've got photos of BF110's sporting the curved mouth with black red and white.
yea i dont like how they mixed american and german with the paint. the car is german...and the paint is 95% german...so why add the shark teeth? other than that...great paint job.
Thanks for those good observations. I'll tell the owner about getting some german tags for shows. We looked at several different examples of paint schemes in a great illustrated book about WWII airplanes of all combatants, and this was the paint scheme he preferred. I think the Splinter camo would be really sick too!! I'll use that suggestion if we ever do another one.
I like it. But you should have left out the American tags. And you should for sure go with a Splinter type of camoflague - 3 tone. Would have looked better!
thanks for the positive feedback...it was a fun but tough job..There are 1155 hand airbrushed rivets (each rivet takes 6 steps) plus all the airbrushed hinges, doors and the exhaust!
Thanks for the positive feedback! It was a blast airbrushing it. There are 1155 hand airbrushed rivets (each rivet takes 6 steps) plus all the airbrushed hinges, doors and the exhaust. The music is a classic piece called "Ride of the Valkyries" by Richard Wagner
