  • Wonderful version. I will always love the original, but this is very good and much better than the Indigo Girls version.

  • perfection. does nt get better than this does it.

  • Nose wrinkle at 1:01!!!!

  • Everybody always introduces 'Elton John' songs; well, that is only half-true. Sorry folks, but if it weren't for Bernie Taupin's lyrics, Elton John would be just another Muzak composer, and I stand four-square behind that assertion ...

  • @paullouismosley and Paul, if there was no Elton John for Bernie's lyrics, Bernie would've been just another greeting card writer.

They were both awesome and needed each other. I stand behind that assertion.

  • Marry me, Nancy.

  • @Squammish No way butthead, she's mine.....hahaha

  • I agree. Much better than even the original. The best Heart performance on you tube for sure.

  • Absolute best version of this song ever recorded. Sorry Elton.

  • I love you Nancy....

  • Thanks for such a great version of this song, the world just works that way, just, such wonderfull people do exist to make our lives better, what a tribute!

  • from Elton to the Wilson sister..... Art and heart so much soul.. Beautiful

  • You cant expect for anyone to better Elton, he was only a kid when he performed this, and of of course, they werent trying, they are so good, they did a just purely fabulous guitar along with this, I love it so much.

I have read comments about how, "they did it better"

You dont get it, they are honouring Elton and us all, by showing us a real wonderfull take on this song, Thank You Girls, it is very special, loved it..

  • Is it just me, but does she look even better now than before?

  • wonderful.. one of my favorite Elton songs, and awesome cover. Lover that 12 string so much I bought one just after watching this...

  • This is an improvement of Elton's version from 72... and that says A LOT!!

  • Elton John wrote it, but Nancy and Anne just make it their own and take it to a whole new level! The harmonies are amazing!

Maybe the best part is that these two ladies are the real thing...they have been giving us amazing music for years and are not some sort of internet-generated one night sensation. These are real ladies and I, for one, can't imagine a better way to spend an evening than sitting around with them, sharing shots, and making music.

    PS: Nancy...Love your blue guitar!

  • What a great performance. Nancy is so low key that she often may not get the recognition she deserves. A true gem of a performance by both ladies.

  • @tb0432 -I totally agree with you-she was the first real woman rock guitar player-I play guitar now as a result of watching her. This was a great cover of Elton-love this song and Heart-

  • they never cease to amaze me !

  • 4:40, when the sisters sing together, loud and wonderfully, the crowd reacts.

    Nothing like family harmonies....:)

  • Wow: I had no idea Nancy could sing like that.

  • I absolutely am thankful for this band. They inspire me more and more every year.

  • Great cover! I love Heart anyway though!

  • This cover needs to be on itunes, i love it and i want it NOW!!!! lol

  • This always brings tears to my eyes. Done beautifully.

  • wow ann and nancy are so beautiful way to cover a great song by one of the greatest musicians of all time .This is my favorite Elton song. They do it well!

  • Is "Alive in Seattle" available on iTunes? I can't find it anywhere, no matter how hard I look on there.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=T03Zjl-1Zdo has another great version of this song.....

  • ABSOLUTELY AWESOME coming from the chicks of rock and roll~~~~~~just goes to show u can't mess up this wonderful and meaningful song~~~~~~thanks most of all to bernie taupin for writing it and the movie Almost famous for letting everyone know about it~~~~KUDO's!!!!!!!!!

  • Two of the hardest working ladies in Rock-n-Roll. Nice video.

  • I think Nancy is available, Cajunninja65. She was married for more than two decades to Cameron Crow. But they divorced a few months ago. :( This Heart cover reminded me that Cameron Crow used this song in his movie "Almost Famous." It must have been a family favorite.

  • how do you dislike this song? Im not even a heart fan but holy shit, this is a great cover.

  • They sooooo nailed it!!

  • Elton typically wrote the music first and then Bernie would write lyrics to fit. This is back asswards of course, but it makes their collaborations that much more interesting.

I love this version of the song. The Wilson sisters are awesome!

  • @dismilmaya I think you have it backwards. Bernie wrote the lyrics and sent them to Elton who set them to music.

  • @puffball9 ~~~~U r absolute right BERNIE always wrote the lyrics, ELTON ALWAYS, ALWAYS put them to music!!!!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~but this is a killer cover, for sure!!!!! I think all is in agreeness in that~~~~~loves music, loves to dance!!!!!!

  • Such awesome harmonies! I usually dont like EJ covers but this is great! I also love the way the deep martin sound compliments the bright 12 string. amazing!

  • 4:53 = best moment

  • @26ryder26 Yes nice vocal here from Nance!

  • this is music... this is what its about...

  • Beautiful Nanc and Ann! Thanks for a Great wake-up tune...Goes great with my coffee and Jax FL sunshine! ;-) Keep rockin, your the last women mentors we have ;-)...Soul of our seas ;-)

  • Absolutely beautiful cover of the song !!!!

  • i love elton john and heart so this is the epitomy of awsome :)

  • Thank you Elton for writing such a wonderful song! But when I want to hear it, this is the version I like to listen to :)

  • @philipminnis Bernie Taupin wrote it, but none-the-less a great cover and song...carry on

  • I play the guitar. I would actually consider selling my soul to the devil to be able to play like Nancy Wilson.

  • If this doesn't bring chills or maybe a tear then you have no heart or soul. Awesome transition to the 12 string and the vocal harmonies are brilliant.

  • Very good cover of one of Elton's classic ballads. Elton has an excellent new album The Union, with Leon Russell

  • What a great rendition of a classic Elton John song!

  • It sounds so sweet to me. Thank you from New York City.

  • damn it always amazes me when someone can sing while playing complicated guitar riffs and chords...

  • Beautiful

  • Absoulty beautiful !! Fantastic

  • I know Ann is in a league of her own...but Nancy NAILED THIS!!!

  • Looks like three insane people disliked this song. I wonder why would someone do that.

  • My god, Nancy is so beautiful.

  • amazing....still my favorite band ever

  • Is Nancy actually only 5'2? She always seemed taller to me...anyways, awesome version of this song.

  • Fantastic.

  • I would pay to watch them perform an acoustic set!!

  • I'm realllly happy I got to see Ann and Nancy do this song at the Tsunami Benefit in Seattle!

  • This is straight out of heaven. This is real music. Boycott the Rock n Roll hall of fame!!! This just shows how bad the music Industry of today is. What a Performance!!!!

  • @Blewline67 Yes, Isn't it?

Time for the Rock n' Roll hall of Fame to recognize the "1st Sisters of Rock"

    Already!!!

  • Nancy's voice it's so beautiful! Great cover, I think it's better than the original version, if I might say. Yeah, sorry, Elton John.

  • Happy birthday ANN!

  • So in tune with the pulse of the world.

  • These Ladies grabbed me by the hormones back in "76" with their strength and beauty. Now that I have matured (insert snickers) I am still nearly brought to tears by their voices and their grace.

    Wow.

  • and these girls are not in the rock hall of fame? stupid

  • This has for years been my favorite lesser-known EJ tune, and I had never cared for any cover versions of it until I heard this one. Age and experience have given these two, especially Nancy here, both splendid vocal range and the ability to feel the lyrics. At once beautifully touching and tastefully restrained. Take note, Mandy Moore.

  • I have this concert on dvd...and never tire of it....love how they capture not only Elton John, but Led Zepplin so well. Amazing concert! Thank you for posting Chip64.

  • The best performance of this tune I've ever heard.

  • So refreshing. Nancy's singing is amazing here, and her 12 string work sounds awesome. Ann's harmonies are spot on too.

  • If you had told me Heart did this song before I watched this, I would have said no way in fuck are they gonna be able to pull it off. And I would have made an ass out of myself. This is an exceptionally beautiful cover of this song. Damn! Both beautiful voices. Anne's voice is one of the best in the history of rock.

  • @GymFloozie A beautiful version. Wonderful!

  • Holy crap! This song is cool. I adore Heart and Nancy just pulls it off beautifully! Right on Nancy! :)

  • Spectacular! Positively transcendent twelve-string guitar playing from Nancy Wilson.

  • I love Nancy, and she does a great job with this song.

  • Fantastic!! I love Ann and Nancy--been a fan since I first saw them in Savannah GA in 1975 (Dreamboat Annie Tour !!)

  • It needs the mandolin to give it that Street-Musician warmth because it's about N.Y. and written back around 1970-71 ish. I too like the sound of the 12 strg git,but let someone else tune it for me or change the strings.

  • Ann Wilson is one of the greatest vocalists of our generation period!!!

  • I love the Elton John version, but this is done just as well.

  • Are you kidding me? They did a brilliant job. Yeah EJ's version is better but how could you even say that, open your mind.

  • These 2 woman have done some great music in their careers, there is no denying this.

  • Two beautiful women doing a beautiful job of singing a beautiful song. Thanks!

  • I LOVE YOU NANCY FROM THIS ARGENTINA

  • Bernie Taupin is the Dylan Thomas of rock lyrics

  • Ann & Nancy's version is absolutely beautiful. I've learned to play this on 12 string guitar too. Superb. I love Heart. :o)

  • I believe there has never been a better version of this song or " Battle of Evermore". I have seen you Ladies so many times and am always amazed at the talent you present, you can stand-up and be counted as the best that ever rocked! And by the way if Nancy would ever like to sell her 12 string Ovation, I'd buy it in a minute! Here is to you Ladies and your band for having to deal with the "Trash Can Dream Come True" Things aren't always as they seem!

    Drocks.2

  • Here is another prospective customer for the 12-string Ovation !!!

If Nancy would even sign an autograph on this guitar, I shall pay always 100 DSD more than your offer ................

  • Bring it, its on! And I know someone who will always pay 100 DSD more than you!

  • Bring it, And I know someone who will always pay 100 DSD more than you!

  • excellent version! it's just relaxing...

  • i had a tune haunting me in the morning and i kept searching my mind...what song....what song..then it hit me....this one. the harmonies are perfect and nancy sounds so sweet. heart really rules.

  • I find it better than Elton's... but I could be a little biast...because I'm in love with them! lol Always refreshing to hear Nancy take the mic... Although there is a reason her big sis is lead! :D LOVE

  • Mecca Cafe loves HEART

  • i grew up see these girls..they ROCK..they do a great 'black dog' by zepplin ..plus their still hot

  • Ooo, yes, we wanted to do a song, because we are calling the tour, the summer of love, this year, we wanted to do one love song for NYC this year while we are out, this is an EJ song.

  • Great song by Elton John, and great cover by Heart.

  • Thereis always an F'n critic. STFU. They rock.

  • Saw this tour in New Hampshire, and have this DVD - excellent stuff.

  • Wow,this is great....Nancy proves once again she can also sing these days aswell....love em.

  • I prefer the Elton John version but this is a fantastic cover.

  • I heard this for the first time and thought it was Indigo Girls. What a pleasant surprise to find its the Wilson sisters! A beautiful rendition that in some ways surpasses the original.

  • fabulous indeed!

  • Nancy really shows off her voice in this one. 5 stars and faved.

  • She certainly did...it was beautiful. Brothers and sisters can make some of the most beautiful harmony.....

    She really really can sing!

  • I'm going to see them on July 10th!!!!!

  • bet you weren't disappointed were you? i saw them last year and they are amazing live

  • I thought I knew, but now I know,

that rose trees never grow in New York City...

  • i am 24 but i would seriously marry nancy wilson if i could haha

  • @Cajunninja65 LMAO. I'm 24 too and was just thinking the same thing.

  • @Cajunninja65 me too... too bad Cameron Crowe is the luckiest man in the world

  • @Jeffodious they are getting a divorce :)

  • @Cajunninja65 I wrote that over a year ago when they were still together. I have already sent my application :)

  • @Cajunninja65 She and Cameron are divorcing . . divorced?

  • This is as good as anything Heart's ever done. Makes me wonder what sort of impact they'd have on the music world if they were an acoustic Fleetwood Mac-ish band.

  • Can any one tell me where I can get a CD version or an MP3 of this song?

    I have been hunting everywhere

  • It's on the Alive in Seattle CD

  • Thank you!!

  • Comment removed

  • One of Elton John's finest songs, covered superbly!!!!!!! xx

  • Is this song on any of Ann and Nancy's CD's?

  • Nancy's voice is PERFECT for this song.

  • @alvastarr1 I know!

  • Their harmonies really shine here, I love Ann on the low harmony.

  • While this is a great cover, the auto tune is so annoying, and really heavily applied.

Why must autotune ruin great music??

  • Simply beautiful. Beautiful song. Beautiful performance. Their voices are so warm, clear, and strong. Even their speaking voices are musical and beautiful...does anyone know if they've ever done any narration for books on tape? They really should...Anyway, thanks Chipi64...

  • bravo!!! Elton is great...this song is fantastic!

  • Good choice!

  • Good version but check out an Indigo Girls version of this song It is incredible!

  • Indigo Girls is a good version, thanks, I think Heart is in their own leage on this one, they pay homage to Elton and put their own spin on it, It's my favorite cover ever of this song...

  • i like this version, but not as good as elton, when he sings it, u can hear it comes from his soul

  • If this version doesn't come from the soul, I don't know where it's coming from! This is about as soulful as you can get.

  • It's like they wrote the song themselves. They did a superb job on the last Taupin song, "These Dreams," but this truly takes my breath away. Yes, I think they did a better job than EJ, sorry Elton....BTW I'm a huge Elton fan too.

  • i love these gals...fantastic!

  • Sorry but I agree with most of the posts...Elton's version is good, but Heart's version is fantastic!

  • While Elton's version is good, Heart's rendition brings a tear to my eyes every time. The harmony from these sisters is truly amazing. Both versions are beautiful but Heart's takes it to another level. Ann is the best female vocalist in rock history. Nancy doesn't have the range or power but has a very sultry voice. Excellent job ladies!

  • I couldn't have said it better. My feelings exactly. I wish I could sing it as well ...

  • Fantastic version! Great musicianship from the Wilson sisters.

  • Hobos are the best...

  • wow

  • u guys did great job but Elton john is better

    sorry

  • of course he does

    its his song! :D

u guys are ok but eltons freakin awesome

  • wow

the first time anyone has one upped sir elton

    lol

  • I love this song and this version too

  • Marvelous....love those sisterly harmonies...simply magnificent!!!

  • I loooooooooove Nancy Wilson.....

    She's absolutely fabulous on stage!!!

  • Beautiful version of a beautiful song, beautiful ladies, and a beautiful blue guitar! Thank you for sharing this!!!!

  • Simply beeeautiful! Thanks for sharing this clip.....

  • Great version of this song. One of the most beautiful songs ever.

    RESPECT ELTON JOHN!

  • Got this on DTS demo disc from CES trade show a few years ago...simply awesome... Nice job with quality on YT...

  • If you like Heart you'll like my music. Just click on my name

  • this is one hudred times better than elton.

  • i think this is a great cover but for those who said its better than eltons are insane..but again great accoustic version :)

  • The amazing Ann and Nancy Wilson! Purely stunning sister duet, even after all these years...

  • Their voices are very similar; with Nancy at the sweeter end of the spectrum and Ann as the powerhouse.

  • 4:56 i love the way nancy sings the word hobo such power for such a small woman

  • agreed, queenheartkiss

  • "hobo" or "I hope he..."

  • Subway's no way for a good man to go down

Rich man can ride and THE HOBO HE can drown

And I thank the Lord for the people I have found

I thank the Lord for the people I have found

  • @QueenHeartKiss A SMALL WOMAN!?!?!?! Good gracious, have you contributed to the sale of 30 MILLION ALBUMS? :) :) :) I humbly submit that her influence is INESTIMABLE.

  • im seeing heart live sept 5

  • I thank the Lord there's people out there like Ann and Nancy... (wipe the tears...)

  • I think you meant "great", and it doesn't suck at all.

  • This performance is just stunning. Nancy sings it flawlessly! I've loved it from the first time I saw it!
