now, I know they say stick to the outside of the bend... but it seems to me the danger is increased that either the back or front wheel may make contact with some lose gravel/mud that has spilled onto the road. I just dont like planting my bike too close to the edge of the road when cornering, as he does at 00:07. Not to say its the wrong thing to do... but I still dont like it.
Try to lean with to bike instead of doing the exact opposit. turning your upper body a into the corner improves your visual without losing contact with the tank. A superbike school is a perfect way to master it!
ya i don't think i agree with this video getting off the gas even just a little in a turn is gonna make the bike stand up and run wide that used to be my biggest problem when i first start riding then i under stood throttle control better with a smooth roll on through the Conner if you get scared an chop or cut the throttle you will run wide .... ..
Wut? Close throttle to tighten corner? engine braking doesnt exist now? dunno about everyone else but when i reduce throttle the engine braking pulls me upright and i run wide....
@sargares in some instances that may happen, but its physics- if you have a bike leant over at a constant angle with consistent body position then to hold the line (balance the weight) you have to apply the throttle. If the motion balancing the leaned weight is reduced the the bike will fall more (gravity) tightening the corner.
Think about the racers when they finish a race and sit up mid corner waving their hands in the air the bike does not go straight ahead and crash.....
@sargares18 it will keep cornering until gravity takes over forward motion and makes the rider apply throttle. AT 12k revs on my 04zx10 this happens much easier than the gsxr i was using here & oversteer is achieved with just trimming, if the rider chops the throttle (closes fast) the torque reduction has a big effect sometimes sitting the bike up or causing weight transfer issues. If you cant feel this it prob means you could refine your throttle input & ride better... learn of someone how!!!!
Get your braking done early! look through the turn,I like to get in the gear for the turn early. And if you ride you've hit a corner to hot.I like to trail brake to scrub off a lil if need be.
I've never understood all the fuss about braking while cornering.I've been riding 12 months a year for over 30 years and for most of that time been told it's a big no no.Never caused me any problems and got me out of a couple of situations, cars heading my way over the white line, drunk falling off the pavement (!!) e.t.c.Seems that in recent years thoughts have changed and now it's apparently acceptable.
@dave8204 gentle braking in a corner is fine; I think what most people are talking about is grabbing a fistful of front brake while halfway around a bend at speed.
Great video with solid techniques. I follow these same steps - especially looking through the turn to the vanishing point and preparing to be able to stop safely at that distance if need be. Planning is the key as the narrator states, by properly getting the approach speed and position right and the rest comes together easily.
My understanding is that you dont throttle off in corners - the throttle should be constant or preferably rolled on gently thru the corner. If you need to brake you will run wide because the bike will stand up and this problem will increase the faster you are going. so the idea is to brake before the corner and accelerate gently thru it - in wide out tight; and in slow out fast. basically you need to go into the corner at the right speed for it and not too fast like most wallies on here
@potatomasher100 throttle down before you reach the corner, then as you say, keep the throttle constant and progressively increase throttle once you hit the apex. Works well for me.
Reduce throttle to tighten the line, add throttle to widen it???? Throttle ON in a bend equals stability, it has nothing to do with the line, corner entrance speed does, but not throttle adjustment per se. Throttling off in a bend will not tighten the line, in fact it will load the front, meaning that you are more likely to need to stand the bike up to restore front grip and run WIDE. Encouraging throttling back in a bend is going to result in accidents. Otherwise a very nice clip thank you
not really, if you find you are going wide in a corner braking or engine braking will slow you down enough to corner tighter. it's not instant and you wont corner tighter while braking but once you have slowed down you will be able to corner tighter.
encouraging throttling back in a bend would lead to accidents if your on a harley. Let me guess, you cant use the front brake in a turn either can you? MSF all the way, it might be safe but it isnt fast, these are all racing techniques, believe it or not the design of these bikes allow for all these things in a turn, the rider just has to know how to manage it all.
If you hadn't noticed this is clip is about road riding and my comments are appropraite to that fact. If you want to use race twechniques use them on the race track. I am a qualified Roadcraft instructor and also a fast track rider. Yes I can brake in bends, you still need to be on the throttle, and both are appropraite on the track simultaneously. I do not throttle off in bends, either on road or track, if you do good luck to you. No need to be rude either.

This video is useless. covers maybe 1% of all factors to be taken in when cornering at high speeds.
Watch twist of the wrist DVD, or read the books by keith code. Youll be glad you did.

THORTTLE CONTROL
open to go wider
close to go tighter
WRONG!
