I tend to agree. I meet so many people today with strong signs of orthorexia. I had it and have had to fight it for years. I eventually learned to respect the gray area that is life. I look at food very moderately now. And I have the blood tests to show that I greatly improved my health, whereas some people would tell me that I am unhealthy because I have a steak once in a while. There are no "clean" and "dirty" foods. That is black and white. It's just a nutrition value continuum.
Hello I been watching your videos and it's amazing how you make a journal of your weight loss. Question I try to lose weight to, usually I lost 30 pounds already but it seem that I stop losing, now I exercise more but is been a month that instead of losing I'm getting weight is not a lot but it make me concern, this ever happen to you?
@natzzjunior that's it - meat, meaning any animal flesh. Vegans are more strict than vegetarians and also avoid eggs, dairy, and sometimes any other animal products such as leather etc. :)
I found that once I decided philosophically to stop eating meat and become vegetarian it was easy. At the time-15 years ago-I just decided I couldn't eat animals anymore. Factory farming is horrendous and that understanding helped. The perk was I lost 50 lbs. Unfortunately I found some junk food is vegetarian! But, the vegetarian eating was/is easy. Cooking vegetarian can also be really easy...especially with the thousands of simple recipes on line. Black beans & brown rice with salsa on top!
Thank goodness you are back!! I've literally begun watching all of you Losing Weight the Hard way videos from the beginning again (only just made it into 2009 after a week :P) and just can't believe how much you changed yourself! All the things you educated yourself and in turn me, on, and how inspiring you are! I have been a veggie for a while now, and need to make my choices better, you with you back and helping again, I'm sure I can do it :)
I eat vegan/raw 6 days out of the week and whatever I want one day, a cheat day if you will. I don't call myself vegan it's just my diet because it makes me feel physically good.
So happy you're posting again! I have been watching your journey and it has truly inspired me. I lived in Portland for six years and am currently a displaced northwesterner living in the midwest. You will LOVE Oregon! Have a great week!
@WikidLovely it's great! I loooove mediterranian food! Most med. diets are pretty macrobiotic, so that's healthy, and they focus mostly on healthy fats and lots of veg. There's really nothing terrible about eating meat, and fish is the least harmful... although the pollution in the ocean is not great and therefore finding HEALTHY un-tainted fish is nearly impossible these days. That's really more serious than is given attention, but with that said, a little fish won't hurt :)
@WikidLovely I live in Portugal and our diet is mediterranian. You eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, some meat and fish but the thing you americans still do not understand are the portions sizes and processed food. That's the key, we also eat sweets and cakes but they are homemade with milk, brown sugar, eggs, etc.
@WikidLovely We drink wine , water, natural juices. No sweeteners or stevia. And we walk a lot because having a car is very expensive. All the foods are so tasty that we don't like going to fast food restaurants. Subway, Burger King, Pizza Hut Restaurants are almost empty or close down because traditional restaurants are always better. Don't get me wrong i love pastas, pizzas, burger but cooked in the old fashion way...
@WikidLovely You should get a cook book but one published by a french, italian, portuguese, greek chef...because we use fresh products and the food is so good and healthy for you. You'll enjoy food and be more healthy.
@WikidLovely Everyone i know that went to the US said the same thing has i the taste of the food without the 10000calories sauces is awful, garlic, onions, red onions, cherry tomatoes, olives, basil, olive oil,etc ?! Don't you have them there!? Try cooking with them.
@WikidLowe eat a lot of octopus and other sea food. i hope you weren't offended but i love mediterranian food and cannot understand why only now people are talking about it.
I understand where you are coming from and I agree that it works for a lot of people but I guess if I dont commit to one thing like being vegan or vegetarian I could not make it. I cant take gradual steps to swtiich over. It is easier for me to just switch and wing it. Ive been vegetarian for two years and thats how I got it done. The first week sucked and now I dont even miss it. I am on my way to veganism and I dont see myself trying to ease into it... I find it a bit more difficult.
i want to lose alot of weight in 2-3 weeks!!! could you please please please give me some tips!!! i seam to eat all the time! i can NOT stop! i am so SAD for my self !!! i've lost 60 pounds and know i gained 25 of them back!!! please help me i dont wanna be fat again .. just talk with me that will be enough as a motivation because i've lost alot of weight by watching your videos and having inspiration from you .. please replay!!!
As I have struggled with eating healthy foods and weight issues over the years I have found it's best to not completely say no to anything as you will feel denied and that starts a whole other ball rolling. So when I hear you had a couple fries I am relieved and based on my experience you are on the best road right now. "healthy changes in a kind & gentle way," beautiful, keep up the good work.
What you spoke of is exactly what is my problem , i have such a huge pressure on myself that i am bound to fail and then i punish myself overeating. Twisted sick cycle. Thank you for your videos
This is so true!! When I discoverd that and from the moment I started to do that, my life was change a lot in the good direction, not only about food, this way of making small goals is good for everything in life :) love your video's shanti!!! greetings Marijke
It's great that you're an aspiring vegan! I went "vegan" about 8 months ago (and am so happy i have!) and something that was a huge inspiration to me was the documentary "earthlings". it's not really about the health effects of being vegan, its more about the food industry. It's intense and may seem a little extreme but it is very effective! Another one is "forks over knives", that one has more to do with health benefits etc. and is really great for motivation as well!
Thanks Shanti! I just wanted to ask you what is your motivation for losing weight all over again since I guess you've gained a little. This happens to a lot of people so do you have any inspirational quotes or other motivation to get started again? THX!
True enough, string together a bunch of baby steps gives me a better chance of success than the 'all or nothing' attitude. Your video really struck home with my thoughts today too, thank you for reminding me to be more forgiving of myself.
What a great video. I LOVE your videos and I really like that you help us to focus on small changes. It helps me to feel successful, even when I'm just making small changes. Can you do an updated video on WHAT you eat as a vegan/raw foodist. I am making really healthy choices but find that I eat a lot of low calorie dairy. I would like to get away from this but I am struggling to find creative things to eat besides salads and cooked vegetables. Can you offer any suggestions? Thank you so much!!

Im just learning that you don't have to rush into things in life, and be overwhelmed
by careers and stuff and it will be okay to have odd jobs, until i find a "career"
i'd like to have for a more permanent period of time. Sounds silly, but im just 16, ! (x & I think in some way this video
made me look at eating Healthy or Better in that same kind of sense. So, thank you. Also, i like your Tye Dye shirt, and Moon necklace.<3 X
