Let God have mercy for her soul. She prompted Henry to break with Universal Church. Her guilt was so terrible as Henry's.
Henry's blood was leaking from his dead body And dogs were licking exactly as was prophesied by a monk. This monk told the king in face if he continue to persecute the Catholic Church then dogs would lick his blood as they licked king Achab's blood in the Old Testament time.
Anne Boleyn made many wrong choices and decisions. She convinced Henry to divorce Katherine and turn away from Catholicism [divorce is wrong and turning away from Catholicism is even worse]. The pope never agreed to anull the marriage of Katherine and Henry, therfore Henry was still married when he "married" Anne. Anne was never a true Queen, she was just Henry's mistress. Katherine will always be true Queen and wife of Henry's. Henry's other "queens" and mistresses mean nothing.
What I don't understand is that Katherine's nephew was the emperor of Spain, right? Yet, after Henry's brother died and she later married Henry, they seemed to totally cut her off. Why didn' t Spain act when Henry "divorced" her? Spain was a powerful country at that time. Think of the misery that could have been saved

I'm not familiar with the rules of British royalty, Queen was not really her rightful title right? It was Queen Consort wasn't it? It's like when Charles becomes King, Chamilla won't be Queen but instead Queen Consort.
She could not produce a male heir. Henry wanted a male heir because he believed that women could not be strong rulers. Ironically, when he finally got a son, Edward VI, he was very weak, while his two daughters, Mary and Elizabeth were very strong rulers.
she's wearing a petticoat with pearls all over it if that's just the petticoat then what is the dress itself made out of? and she's wearing it to her execution imagine what her clothes were like when she wasnt living in the tower waiting to die henry paid alot for her clothes he kept her well dressed for over six years

@WhiteScarfx Yup. You can go visit the Tower of London. I've been, and it's awesome. I faintly remember what it looked like, although it was only two years ago since I visited--but anyway, I remember it was incredible. It feels simply amazing to walk on the very same ground that Anne Boleyn once walked on.
the problem with her is that she refused to play that docile tudor wife, with her sharp rongue and temper. what was exciting as a mistress, is intolerable as a wife.

@littlemisssunnydale I agree with most of what you say and enjoy reading your comments, but I think you were very harsh in your criticism of the BBC's THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL, which I felt was very raw and heartbreakingly real, despite its low budget. It may not have been totally accurate but I felt that it captured the hopelessness of Anne's situation more poignantly than any of the other films which I have seen and loved or disliked. Keep up the good work. You know your stuff!
Doing what had to be done to have male issue? Have you forgotten that it is the man's chromosomal contribution that determines the baby's gender (not that they knew that back then)? As for Anne, she should have known that Henry would discard her just like he discarded Catherine of Aragorn, once he had something "better" waiting in the wings.
there was a prophecy that said: ' a queen of england shall be burned' at ann's trial it was not known whether the queen would be burned or beheaded- it is obvious that that 'queen of england' was Anne hope u now understand

I agree, and knew the risk. When she heard about the prophecy, she said that she was willing to suffer a 1000 death. So she new the risk and was willing to take it.
Because Anne spoke out against Mary (the two traded insults and Anne is believed to have asked for the girl to be slapped if she carried on being defiant, a command of which was ignored). So by asking for forgiveness in regards to her treatment of Mary, this was probably an acknowledgement of all the stuff she had said about her. But in regards to what happened to Mary (like sending her to Elizabeth's household) this was done on the orders of Henry.
Actually many people will argue that Anne Boleyn was quite different from any of his wives. Henry broke England in two via religion and his break with the church to marry her. She was true to her honor and refused to be a mistress.Out of many,he wanted her. Anne could provide him with a partner to have intellectual conversations with;someone witty & charming. It was Anne Boleyn's blood that saved England. Why put her down? Yea he treated Katherine bad,but she KEPT HER HEAD!
Katherine was just as intelligent as Anne. Henry use to trust Kathrine to run the country when he was away, and he enjoyed her company and use to take her advice . Henry VIII was very proud of Kathrine when she defeat Scotland on the battle field. Henry VIII truly loved Kathrine, and would have given her anything she wanted if she had agree to the divorce. If you were to take the time and read other books besides Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives you might have found out that information.
Henry broke england in two because anne did what no woman did before her she told her no and this made him want her even more. I do not believed he loved Anne I believed he wanted her and was infactuated with her, until he got her and reality set in and he realised she was a woman like any other woman. Henry like so many other powerful men love the chase, until they have conquered the object of their affection and then they move one to something else.
hard to think that pig of a king had a charm but he did as small as it was it never lasted long but he had a charm with women love letters telling them how wonderful they were all lies he didnt know what he wanted thoe i do think he had a school boy crush on her and lust but he never loved her poor anne this is not a fairy tale the evil one won
I agree with you. I think Henry VIII was just infatuated with Anne, and that Infatuation grow each time Anne rejected him. The infatuation combine with The Pope/people telling him to go back to his wife/break up made their bond stronger. Once the smoke cleared, and the obstacle was remove, there went their relationship. In Henry's eyes Anne turn back into just an ordinary women.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Anne's downfall was pure KARMA!How the hell could she not know what kind of man Henry was?He was a disgusting, evil, womanizing and vile man.If he would treat Catherine, his wife, and Mary, his daughter, the way that he did,why wouldn't he do her the same,or even worse. She even went so far as to play a part in the cruelty herself.
Kharma, perhaps. Justice, absolutely not. Whatever harm she may have done she paid for with her life and she was very aware of that. Anne had very little choice. She was betrothed to Percy but Henry disallowed the match. He wanted Anne as his mistress. Anne had seen her sister's reputation ruined and she wanted a better life for herself and her heirs. To that extent she was right. Elizabeth would have never become queen if she'd been born the daughter of a courtesan.
She may have known how he was but she beleived he loved her. Why wouldn't he do her the same? Because she WASNT the same. A man doesnt think uniformly of every woman he encounters. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT KATHERINE IS NOT HOLLIER THAN THOU!! It was ONLY Anne Boleyn's blood able to deliver England the majestic monarch of Elizabeth. While Katherine/Mary looked to God for EVERYTHING,Anne knew that in this world you have to GRAB what you want,as she did with making sure her child would one day rule!
I do not think Henry VIII was always a jerk. Up until Henry VIII met Anne, he was consider one of the better kings. Besides do you really think Kathrine would have loved him so deeply for 20's something years if he was a jerk to her? Henry had affairs while with Katherine,(all kings did) but he was so discreet, that prior to Anne only two was known about.
luvprue1 - Actually,a lot of women stay with their husbands for various reasons, even if they have cheated, and are jerks. She was one of them.Henry using the excuse to have an affair or affairs, because he was King is ridiculous. That makes him a "jerk".
You are correct,he was in fact considered a "great Prince" in the earlier years. Many people including myself believe he was an exceptional King for the Reformation in itself. And as far as affiars go,it was practically expected for Kings to have affairs. Many people tend to lose sight of the lack of rites women had & how poorly women were treated. Given the period, Henry was no "jerk" for having affairs & all of his wives knew beforehand it was a fact of marrying a King they would have to endure.
I have to agree with this because everything in life happens for a reason, and sometimes one's life is lived only for the future or just one great thing that needs to be done.
Elizabeth is buried with her sister but not with Mary Queen of Scots (or to be more precise, Elizabeth is buried on top of Mary -- their coffins were stacked on top of one another).
James I transferred Mary Stuart's body to Westminster Abbey where she was given her own tomb away from Elizabeth's.
Elizabeth and Mary Stuart were never buried together. Following her execution Mary Stuart was buried at Peterborough Cathedral. Then in 1612 James had her body transferred to Westminster.
Its kind of ironic or call it karma that all of the queens ruled for a time and all of his kids ruled as well (even though some he declared bastards) AND Mary AND elizabeth were kind of like best friends (They even share the same tomb)
Henry viii after All I have been reading about him from different viewpoints seemed to be a good husband when he was younger, but later he was just mean and greedy. Anne Boleyn was just too ambiious although she was made Mary Tudor a bastard(illegitimate child) and made Catherine of Eragon have an anulled marriage. I blame it all on ambitious ppl.
Anne did not make Mary a bastard; this was Henry's doing via an act of parliament. He did not view Mary as his legitimate child so he made her illegitimate and would hold on to that belief till his death. Henry must take a lot of responsibility for what happened to Mary because we know from a report by Chapuys that decisions regarding Mary's fate in the early 1530s was taken by the king, Cromwell and the council. Henry continued to be nasty to Mary after Anne's death.
Thanks for the clips about 16th century history, littlemisssunnydale. Dramatized or not, these documentaries and movies are of great interest.
These events often shock us, yet how barbaric might people see us hundreds of years from now? And how wrong might we be in judging the motives of others from hundreds of years ago?
History is made by- and recorded and interpreted by- fallible, mere people...
I too, feel sorry for Anne...and all others destroyed by means beyond their control.
I find it very interesting how karma struck during the Tudor era. Everything Henry put Catherine through, happened to her successor Anne. Infidelity, cruelty, her lady in waiting taking her place,it all came full circle.
Anne overstepped her bounds with the lunatic. She thought he wouldn't treat her the way he did Katherine, arrogance in the extreme. If he could mistreat a born princess, why wouldn't he do the same to a commoner? She gambled and lost.
The main reason Anne Boleyn died is because Henry found Jane Seymour and wanted to marry her for a son instead. Henry and Jane were engaged the day after Anne died. Great documentary, one I've not seen before.
yeah, you're right. i study sociology, but i never really understood how henry the VII, or any other man or woman, is able to throw away a life so easily in order to attain someone else. it's so sad. i find these kinds of stories to be amazing and interesting, but i really makes me question how many different sets of morals are really there in the world.
You and I are not psychopaths,sjh012055.That is the only way I can describe the way King Henry treated people. He did the same thing to Queen Katherine to have Anne,so what goes around comes around. His behavior is that of a psychopath, imo. Life meant nothing to him,his way was all that mattered, and no matter what,he would have his way.I'm sure that if he was alive today, that's what he would be seen as.
Thanks for posting! Very interesting, I wish they showed these documentaries in the US! You don't by any chance have a copy of the Keith Michell movie "Henry VIII and His Six Wives" (the movie not the miniseries) do you? I've longed to see that, but they don't really make it in my region DVD-wise unfortunately...
I always think of May 19 as "Anne Boleyn Day"....poor woman!
Anne may have been spirited , but she spoke her mind. Her spirit made her face her death with dignity and gave England the best queen in history. Without her in the picture... would England be the power that it is now?? Opinions appreciated!
I think it is tricky to play the DVD if you are in the States as the only DVDs I know that include this documentary are on region 2 format. The documentary can be purchased one of two ways - you can either buy the whole DVD series of the BBC documentary 'Days
That Shook the World', but I think that is slightly pricy! It is also included on the region 2 DVD boxset of the BBC series 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII'.
I agree. But once he caught her,the thrill was gone. By the time he married Anne,I believe he did it more out of fury that the Pope and others were trying to tell him what to do. He still desired Anne but quite a bit of the thrill was gone. Then when she failed utterly at giving him a son, something she no doubt used to increase her appeal over Queen Katherine,he was enraged. The real blame is with King Henry,he was quite mad, imo.
So you believe beheading for anything is a just punishment? And what did she do to deserve such a barbaric death? Her close friends and those who intimately knew her argued that she was a devout intelligent woman who was kind to her ladies. It was her political opponents who did not know her that painted a different picture.
Please!!! Nothing she did deserved beheading. Henry was a despicable, capricious man who did not deserve either love, nor loyalty. He did not know the meaning of either.
ok so Catherine of Aragon deserved to die abandoned and seperated from her daughter because she hated protestants? Bulshit! I'm a protestant myself and there is no way she deserved that!
HistoryGirl2 - I so agree with you. What Henry VIII done to Queen Katherine ,and the Princess Mary was wrong on all levels...but lets us not forget Anne did play a role
@HistoryGirl2 she didn't hate protestants her only "crimes" were failure to produce a healthy male heir, and refusing to accept the divorce, so Henry being Henry, took revence by refusing to let her see her daughter. She was a good woman in a bad situation.
Wow - glad this is up. I actually played one of the ladies in Waiting - Anne's Aunt - Lady Anne Boleyn. I am in red silk with a gable hood though I am also seen in a bronze gown in the background of the "court" walking in the garden and you see my back in the same gown when King Henry VIII is giving me attentions (I'm playing Jane Seymour there!).
Also, my wedding gown is on Anne when she is in the garden scene and she uses one of my french hoods for a lot of scenes - it is one that is a bronze brocade.
The episode was filmed mostly at Kentwell Hall in Suffolk apart from the execution scene which was filmed on day 1 of a four day shoot at Hedingham Castle. I managed to slip painfully down the 900 year old outside staircase in full Tudor gown! Not something I'd recommend!
Actually 'Ann' is just as acceptable. Early modern people spelt their names in a variety of ways and Anne Boleyn once signed a letter to her father as 'Anna de Boullan'.

Henry broke england in two because anne did what no woman did before her she told her no and this made him want her even more. I do not believed he loved Anne I believed he wanted her and was infactuated with her, until he got her and reality set in and he realised she was a woman like any other woman. Henry like so many other powerful men love the chase, until they have conquered the object of their affection and then they move one to something else.

hard to think that pig of a king had a charm but he did as small as it was it never lasted long but he had a charm with women love letters telling them how wonderful they were all lies he didnt know what he wanted thoe i do think he had a school boy crush on her and lust but he never loved her poor anne this is not a fairy tale the evil one won
halyie 3 years ago
I agree with you. I think Henry VIII was just infatuated with Anne, and that Infatuation grow each time Anne rejected him. The infatuation combine with The Pope/people telling him to go back to his wife/break up made their bond stronger. Once the smoke cleared, and the obstacle was remove, there went their relationship. In Henry's eyes Anne turn back into just an ordinary women.
luvprue1 3 years ago
You are very right Henry did not love Anne he wanted what he could not have until he got it and then it lost it's appeal.

Gabbycrts 3 years ago
Kharma, perhaps. Justice, absolutely not. Whatever harm she may have done she paid for with her life and she was very aware of that. Anne had very little choice. She was betrothed to Percy but Henry disallowed the match. He wanted Anne as his mistress. Anne had seen her sister's reputation ruined and she wanted a better life for herself and her heirs. To that extent she was right. Elizabeth would have never become queen if she'd been born the daughter of a courtesan.

Thank you for replying. What you said made a lot of sense.
Gabbycrts 3 years ago
DAMN STRAIGHT! I'm sick of all the anti Anne shit on here!
GoddessofHyrule 2 years ago 13
She may have known how he was but she beleived he loved her. Why wouldn't he do her the same? Because she WASNT the same. A man doesnt think uniformly of every woman he encounters. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT KATHERINE IS NOT HOLLIER THAN THOU!! It was ONLY Anne Boleyn's blood able to deliver England the majestic monarch of Elizabeth. While Katherine/Mary looked to God for EVERYTHING,Anne knew that in this world you have to GRAB what you want,as she did with making sure her child would one day rule!
LadyPerseverance 3 years ago 2
WHAT!?No woman is exactly the same, but with this man's track record,he was bound to treat her just like the others.
I don't believe Henry loved any of his wives whatsoever. All he wanted was a SON.
He was a womanizing jerk, who was out of control.Anne Boleyn wasn't any different. He used Women, and he used her.
Whether or not Katherine was a saint, does not mean that it gave Henry and Anne to treat her and Mary that way.
No excuse whatsover!
Gabbycrts 3 years ago
I do not think Henry VIII was always a jerk. Up until Henry VIII met Anne, he was consider one of the better kings. Besides do you really think Kathrine would have loved him so deeply for 20's something years if he was a jerk to her? Henry had affairs while with Katherine,(all kings did) but he was so discreet, that prior to Anne only two was known about.
luvprue1 3 years ago
luvprue1 - Actually,a lot of women stay with their husbands for various reasons, even if they have cheated, and are jerks. She was one of them.Henry using the excuse to have an affair or affairs, because he was King is ridiculous. That makes him a "jerk".
Gabbycrts 3 years ago
You are correct,he was in fact considered a "great Prince" in the earlier years. Many people including myself believe he was an exceptional King for the Reformation in itself. And as far as affiars go,it was practically expected for Kings to have affairs. Many people tend to lose sight of the lack of rites women had & how poorly women were treated. Given the period, Henry was no "jerk" for having affairs & all of his wives knew beforehand it was a fact of marrying a King they would have to endure.
LadyPerseverance 3 years ago 2
I have to agree with this because everything in life happens for a reason, and sometimes one's life is lived only for the future or just one great thing that needs to be done.

elizabeth shares her tomb with mary her COUSIN - mary queen of scots, not mary tudor her hslf sister!
tiredoldbag 3 years ago
No actually she does share it with her sister and Mary Queen of Scots.
Princesspeach2007 3 years ago
Elizabeth is buried with her sister but not with Mary Queen of Scots (or to be more precise, Elizabeth is buried on top of Mary -- their coffins were stacked on top of one another).
James I transferred Mary Stuart's body to Westminster Abbey where she was given her own tomb away from Elizabeth's.
littlemisssunnydale 3 years ago
But she was indeed buried with Elizabeth at one time before James became king of England.
Princesspeach2007 3 years ago
what was it you sed about txt books princesspeach2007!!!!!!!!!! thanx littlemisssunnydale
tiredoldbag 3 years ago
I'm not completely wrong...she was buried with Elizabeth at one time and then moved away by her son, James when he became the king of England.
Princesspeach2007 3 years ago
Elizabeth and Mary Stuart were never buried together. Following her execution Mary Stuart was buried at Peterborough Cathedral. Then in 1612 James had her body transferred to Westminster.
littlemisssunnydale 3 years ago
I don't really care but thanks anyway :| Loving your vids btw lol
Princesspeach2007 3 years ago
Its kind of ironic or call it karma that all of the queens ruled for a time and all of his kids ruled as well (even though some he declared bastards) AND Mary AND elizabeth were kind of like best friends (They even share the same tomb)
:)

I blame it all on ambitious ppl.
z9n58us 3 years ago

Infofan 3 years ago 2
I find it very interesting how karma struck during the Tudor era. Everything Henry put Catherine through, happened to her successor Anne. Infidelity, cruelty, her lady in waiting taking her place,it all came full circle.
Anne overstepped her bounds with the lunatic. She thought he wouldn't treat her the way he did Katherine, arrogance in the extreme. If he could mistreat a born princess, why wouldn't he do the same to a commoner? She gambled and lost.
Kitty273 3 years ago
The main reason Anne Boleyn died is because Henry found Jane Seymour and wanted to marry her for a son instead. Henry and Jane were engaged the day after Anne died. Great documentary, one I've not seen before.
maryfabuk 3 years ago 6
yeah, you're right. i study sociology, but i never really understood how henry the VII, or any other man or woman, is able to throw away a life so easily in order to attain someone else. it's so sad. i find these kinds of stories to be amazing and interesting, but i really makes me question how many different sets of morals are really there in the world.
sjh012055 3 years ago 5
You and I are not psychopaths,sjh012055.That is the only way I can describe the way King Henry treated people. He did the same thing to Queen Katherine to have Anne,so what goes around comes around. His behavior is that of a psychopath, imo. Life meant nothing to him,his way was all that mattered, and no matter what,he would have his way.I'm sure that if he was alive today, that's what he would be seen as.
Kitty273 3 years ago 2
Poor Anne Boleyn. :( Henry was a cruel, greedy man who started out as an innocent golden boy but quickly deterioriated into a seedy old man.

Thank you for your comments!

I thought that Anne Boleyn was beautiful...
Claireyyyy 3 years ago
Beauty fades wit remains :) She was different, and refused to be easily lured by Henry and he was a man who loved the chase.
Willow698 3 years ago

Anne Boleyn deserved what she got. She reaped what she sowed and lost her head for it.
aped 3 years ago
So you believe beheading for anything is a just punishment? And what did she do to deserve such a barbaric death? Her close friends and those who intimately knew her argued that she was a devout intelligent woman who was kind to her ladies. It was her political opponents who did not know her that painted a different picture.
littlemisssunnydale 3 years ago
perhaps aped means what she did to Catherine of Aragon. But, Anne Boleyn did not do this alone. King Henry VIII himself is to blame as well.
Kellimorgan 3 years ago 2
Please!!! Nothing she did deserved beheading. Henry was a despicable, capricious man who did not deserve either love, nor loyalty. He did not know the meaning of either.

HistoryGirl2 - I so agree with you. What Henry VIII done to Queen Katherine ,and the Princess Mary was wrong on all levels...but lets us not forget Anne did play a role
in it.
luvprue1 2 years ago
@HistoryGirl2 she didn't hate protestants her only "crimes" were failure to produce a healthy male heir, and refusing to accept the divorce, so Henry being Henry, took revence by refusing to let her see her daughter. She was a good woman in a bad situation.

Wow - glad this is up. I actually played one of the ladies in Waiting - Anne's Aunt - Lady Anne Boleyn. I am in red silk with a gable hood though I am also seen in a bronze gown in the background of the "court" walking in the garden and you see my back in the same gown when King Henry VIII is giving me attentions (I'm playing Jane Seymour there!).
myladyswardrobe 3 years ago
