  • I love when Petrucci makes the guitar cry at 0:58

  • I cried at the end

that has to be some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard

this song is just amazing, and this one part is so powerful in its lyrics and its melody that the hair on the back of your neck can't help but stand up stiff

  • people like or even love the same band and music and still there has got to be a fight! oh yeah right, music is universal and tastes may differ.

  • MP asked to b back n and James said no

  • I agree with drummerdude7318.

  • toberoo: who cares what you think? This masterpiece was written by Dream Theater with Kevin Moore on keys back with celestial genius Images and Words! This version of ACOS with the homosexual on keys is the dumbed down version of Kevin Moore's masterpiece! Some of Kevin Moore's best solos were cut out of ACOS because they were too difficult to transcribe! We are left with trash thanks to egomaniacs Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci!

  • @Zakariah1971 fanboy

  • I wonder when they were writing this song, how many times they forgot parts of it...

  • Really amazing and truly EARGASMIC!

  • Kevin Moore version is best!!!

  • @Zakariah1971 I think its actually Derek on this song

  • @toberoo it's derek ...

  • this song is simply amazing. especially the live version

  • wow.

  • 4:06 - 4:39 epic ending

  • The last chapter is wonderful... Like I'm already imaginating the sunset and an old man talking to his son that live goes on... Ahhh... Wonderful... And in the end the beginning theme that ends like a music box's mechanic... My god, an awesome song...

  • Questi furono i Dream Theater

  • perfect song!

  • @metal4lifeeddie that just looks like a list of guitar players who have been on the cover of Guitar World. Pretty generic assortment there...there's a lot of bands that *most* guitar players listen to, and that is pretty much a list of them.

  • Great song!!!!

  • holy shit that was twenty minutes! felt like 5

  • @FreezingSun14 It felt like a lifetime to me. ^^

  • THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME GUITAR SOLO
  • @metal4lifeddie no its not. its average in my opinion. and yes. even i can play it.

  • @TheBobryk Well, im sorry, but i dont really play the guitar, so i cant always tell how difficult a song is. But some guitarists i know are skilled are Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Frank Zappa, Slash, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Paige, Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustaine, Neil Young, Randy Rhoads, David Gilmour, Alex Lifeson, Kim Thayil, Daron Malakian, and Eddie Van Halen among others. As you can see, I listen to all types of rock music

  • @metal4lifeddie Good taste in music.

  • Derek Sherinian The Best !!!

  • This part's my favorite one, amazing DT

  • Ending is epic as fuck i always rewind to listen to it again and again and foreva!

  • i listend to the same album like 20 or more times and im still not tired of it... other songs i listen once and heard enought :P

  • ...set to see the Crimson Sunset...

  • at 1:43 i had another orgasm lol

  • @FeNDeR4US mine didnt go away for 23 mins!

  • @FeNDeR4US Seriously, no fucking homo!

  • @metal4lifeddie except that they are not gay, I think you are homophobic

  • @FeNDeR4US um, i was not calling dream theater gay, i was calling you gay, because you claim you had an orgasm when listening to a song played by men. and i am not homophobic, like axl rose, i am confused by gays sexual preference, but even though i would never fuck a man and am personally a little bit disgusted by it, I tolerate gays. Anyways, i knew you were just joking about the orgasm, and i was just joking about you being gay, alright? If you're pissed off at me right now, it's okay. Ilsubu

  • @FeNDeR4US Seriously, no fucking homo!

  • Probably the only 25 minute song I can start playing again immediately after it's over.

  • I absolutely agree with you guys. It's like this song takes your breath away, and then you wanna listen to it again. A simple masterpiece.Just...exquisite

  • i swear this seems like its not 23 minutes

  • I had never liked the stuff people had rec.'d me by Dream Theater... but this is just sweet.

  • Bygde is right and thats why i like dream theater because their songs arn't just the same old boring thing all the way through. It's weird becuse critics dislike that aspect of DT and i think it's the best part of DT.

  • dream theater could make more than 4-5 albums just with this song.

they realised this masterpiece just in one cd......... don't know what to say..

. this is pure art, pure music, respect and love for the audience.

    amazing....thank you guys

  • Best song written by man.

  • It's official. Dream Theater are now gods. They approached it with IaW, but have been there ever since this slice of heaven was entrusted to us.

Again, this song, much like Octavarium, is perfect. 'Nuff said.

  • Even though i am gone,

    I will live onnnnnnn

  • When you listen to this song you really run an emotional marathon. Exhausted, but you want to go back and just start it all again.

  • You sir, with these 2 sentences expressed exactly how i feel each time i hear this song! Thank you!

  • As many times that I have listened to this song, I never seem to grow tired of it. Amazing!!!

  • i know exactly what u mean man!!!!

  • DT has the ability to make the songs evolve as they go. That's why you, me and everyone else never get tired of a 23 minute song. It isn't the same riff through the whole song, even though they sort of have a theme within the song. They are indeed amazing.

  • It's amazing, it's like, I hear all of this and am both tired, and not. I want to hear it again, and even though it is a 23 minute song, I did not grow tired of it anywhere in the song. DT is amazing...truly and truly amazing.

  • Just listened to this song for the first time... I think I am paralyzed by its sheer awesomeness (but apparently not paralyzed enough to tell all of you how much I fucking love it)

  • woow! 0:05 to 0:10 is so powerful

  • I honestly can't believe how amazing DT is.

I'm speechless, no words can properly define how good this song is.

I just love it, every second of it <3333

    99999999999 / 5

  • 0:20 insanity!!!! The octaves go high!!!! Props for this song!!!! AMAZING!!!!

  • No, that's not guitar, that's synth.

  • The part Carpe Diem really means a lot to me. Takes me back and reminds me of my mistakes. I hoped for the future, but there was none. Now I can learn from the past, but those days are gone. Damn I didn't mean this to sound so pretentious..

  • i really love 2:35 it's simple but awesome

  • the final voice in min 3:22...... what an energy man.....really the max feeling is there...... and thats lyrics really are greats too..... what a creativity

  • What a fucking bassline at 0:54! Go Myung!

  • Who does the backing vocals for the song?

  • Mike Portnoy

  • 0:07 - 0:10, GODDAMN

  • The only thing that I don't absolutely love about this track is that it doesn't have Kevin Moore. The best keyboardist DT ever had.

And don't get me wrong, I love the keyboards here, and this song was actually written before I&W came out, when Kevin was still with the band, but still I wish he had played in this track

  • before IaW? why did it stay unreleased so long?

  • I guess because they didn't want to release it as part of I&W because of its length, and Awake turned out to be pretty long in its own right.

They actually wrote this during the time when they didn't have a vocalist, after they fired Dominici and before they found LaBrie. That's why so much of it is instrumental.

  • who did the vocals at 2:20?

  • What? who sung them or who made the words?

  • sung**

  • Kevin James Labrie

  • i have to disagree dude.

    Rudess is a god.

he wrote 99% of 6 degrees!

    thats pretty damn impressive

  • thanks to phoenix57 for all DT's song.

  • lmao in the 3 parts you keep on changing how long you say the song is in ur comment. :D

  • so much energy and power.... it almost gives me a feeling of nostalgia

  • What alot of you don't understand is that if you follow Dream Theater throughout, each CD tells a story that ties in with the next, and that is why u hear similarities in songs, that is why you hear repetition. Like a memory goes over the same thing. These guys are genious and incredible musicians! Bar NONE!

  • In fact up until SC they were all literally connected since the ending of each each album led into the next. But yea there's a lot of similar or identical concepts and melodies. In a way it creates their signature sound.

  • This Song is Longer than Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (1972 - 1974 TV Series)

  • ohh i forgot! thank you Phoenix 57 !! you too great work! thanks

  • images comes out from eyes and ears when we listen this song. great work. great. probably the best dream theater's song ever. thanks guys.

  • The noise at 7:00 is awesome

  • gather ye rosebuds while ye may, carpe diem

  • 1:43 - 2:06 = EPIC

  • such an epic song especially 2:05-3:46

  • ah my god so epic. love it at like tenish seconds in when everything hits the roof, frickin awesome. cant wait to see them at download.

  • You lucky bastard. I want to see Dream Theater live!

  • i simply have no words to describe this song

  • It is now my goal in life to learn this song on guitar.

  • This only has less than a fourth of the views of The Crimson Sunrise, Innocence, and Carpe Diem and a little over half of the views as The Darkest of Winters, Another World, and the first half of The Inevitable Summer.

It is rather difficult to cope with one of only two certainties in life, I suppose. :(

  • It was ~23 minutes long, but it felt like it was 5... Dream Theater is just amazing, and this is my favorite song by them.

  • Exactly, even lengthy there is so much going on but at the same time not cluttered and it forces you to re listen over and over again

  • This song and DT in general makes mainstream music seem so boring and... short

  • @drummerdude7318 I find that to be my struggle every day.

  • hey i just realised it ends how it starts! Thus representing the cycle of life.

it could represent reincarnation, or just the new generation (i.e. father to son father to son etc.)

  • winter, spring, summer, autumn and then inevitably winter returns. A change of seasons.

  • maybe it indicates that people are so blown away that they have to listen to it all again.

  • i love how this finishes (1:43 onwards). Nice lyrics too..

the music at the end sounds like the guy has got more cynical throughout his life.. (whoever the person is in this song!)

  • I just spent 23 minutes of my life listening to this song, and I must say, it was EPIC.

  • if this is not the perfection, I don't know what 'perfection' means..

ACOS and other songs of DT are the perfection..

  • esooooo

  • Omg too awsome. JUST SO AWSOME, EARGASM!*throws pillow*

  • *catches pillow with lightening reflexes, throws pillow back.*

  • After just spending 20 minutes listening to this song I now know that I LOVE DREAM THEATER! I love insanely long progressive songs!

  • 55 is an awesome part!

  • cool
