I'm on my 6th tour in Afghanistan as a Private Security Contractor. I have carried the M-4 A1 during every deployment. I own 3 M-4's (Gas piston) and 4 mini14's at home. In my opinion the mini14 is far beyond the M-4 in reliability and accuracy. Cool video.
Starting today I have had my Mini 14 for three weeks now and I'm getting close to the thousand round mark and I have enjoyed every shot. I have a Bushnell 4x16x40 scope and a bi-pod that I got from walmart on mine and I have the same mounts and I haven't had any troubles with it. Plus I love how it folds down. Also I was able get the girlfriend into shooting with it, and note that before hand she hated guns. So I'm very happy with mine and I would for sure buy another.
Nice; I would have gotten the tactical version but at the time the 18" ranch was a better deal I got it on sale for $640 at cabela's. I like the scope mounts... yea they are a little weird but I have never had an issue with mine coming lose. If I take the scope off & put it back on while still being on my original point of aim.
Only thing I don't like is the way the ATI folding stock is designed & the way the rear sight is mounted... it tends to come lose after so many shots.
@CandRreviews Great up front review. I have no idea why the ar is so popular. They are expensive. The Mini is like a Glock. You use it then put it up. You don't have to tinker with it. Its a true reliable, accurate, tough as nails workhorse. As the man said"No B.S. to mess with.
@dlw03141 Amen. Idk why so many people hate on it (especially AR owners IMO). It is one of the finest rifles ever made, the US military should have ditched the AR in the 70's and switched to mini-14/ AC-556 rifles since it is based on a rock solid, tired and true design. like they say "if it ain't broke dont fix it!".
Great reviews,I watched them both.I used to have an old stainless Mini I got for $200 used back in the day( Bet that never happens again ) And it was completely reliable and open site to open site shooting I could hit anything that my friend could hit with his micro grooved Ranch Rifle.I have been considering building an AR but my mind went back to that old Mini today and I think ill spend that cash on this instead.Great review and thanks for doing the follow up that really helps :-)
I just picked the other tactical version up a few days ago. Love it!!! Took it to the range and shot 80 rounds of steel casings through it and not one single problem. Funny thing is my buddy just bought a $2,000.00 AR15 from Knights Armament and when he tried shooting the steel cased ammo his AR would not cycle it. He basically had a one shot AR. Another guy in our group had feed issues as well with that ammo. The Mini-14 chewed them up and spit them out and the groupings were nickel size.
@Amateur946 The only issue is the screws are very easy to strip...the plus is they are easy to replace and I was able to get some good machine screws. Thanks for the comments and watching our videos!
@Siguror6 You should never locktite the scope mounts on the ruger due to takedown. The bolt cannot be removed if the scope is still on. Thanks for the comment and watching our video.
@CandRreviews That's too bad. I have a similar problem with the decocker on this little ISSC M22 .22 glock look alike. I would hvae to tighten it constantly. Finally I glued it in. , and I hope it stays glued forever.
cleaning is a pain because of the takedown....it is tedious especially compared to an AR or AK. It is extremely reliable and I have ran 100's of rounds through almost dry and it has never failed. Just basic light oil and a good scrub every 300-400 rds and you're good. Thanks for the comment and watching the video!
@NeedWarForPeace These are the CAA Cheek rests that come two in a pack for $20. One is higher and the other is lower. I have the higher one on my Saiga .223 Tapco T6 stock and it has worked great for the price. It is nothing fancy but will do the job at the range. It snaps on snug but can also be removed quickly if you want to use iron sights. Overall I think Chad likes this one a bit better than the one that came on the Mini-14 because it can be removed quickly. Thanks-Ryan
Dude. 1st time I took my mini 14 and Nikon Scope to the range. Check out the vid Mini 14 M223. Sighting in the scope I am very happy with the accuracy. It is a kick ass weapon, and I only paid 598 at CDNN for it. Hammer forged barrel, AR's can not come close to that level of quality at that price.
you said it was really accurate, in your testing what range and groupings did you get? off bench or holding...? i am very interested in your accuracy results as i am debating between a mini 14 or a stag arms ar. any info is appreciated
Sweet rifle, and I agree about the function and action of the mini vs. A ar 15. By the way every fucking time I go to the range, someone has an ar 15, and my opinion the tactical mini 14 looks evil compared to a ar 15, well at least your setup very very sweet setup!
@nascar2w I belong to a private range with alittle over a 1000 members and I have never seen another Mini 14. I see AR's everytime I go. Everyone asks what it is and how accurate and they usually come away impressed, Especially when I tell them how much the rifle costs brand new. Thanks for the comment!
@CandRreviews Same here everybody at the range where i shoot has AR-15 or the ACR in the year i been there seen probaly 2 Mini 14 owners one of them being me.

Might consider getting this setup next year instead of the sr-556.Money saved can go towards a new stockpile of ammo for it!

Good Review and your 100% correct. For the money the Mini-14 Tactical is a better weapon, and easy to maintain.

@CandRreviews - Once I figured out the proper way to reassemble the bolt - I find take down pretty simple and not any harder than the AR-15.
