A song of drama and thrills. I can't walk down the street without embarrassing myself when this song comes on my I-pod. Chi throws me into seizures of theatrical gestures, as I act out the terror and doom this song suggests.
Wow, I haven't hear this song for years. My parents still hate it as they heard it so many time. I was born in '62 so I was about 10, I guess. At that age, you can listen to the same song hundreds of times in sequence. I think I did the same thing with Kiss' Rock and Roll all night.
This lady today throws Kate Perry and Miley Cyrus to the shit garbage. I don't know why new generations are hypocritically conservatives liberal in a fashion that culturally is driving USA in a bad way. I'm latino and I don't like Shakira and Pitbull and many others and because I love this country I want a future art crusade to rescue in new generations the good things in music. Lydia Cornell, Chi Coltrane, Janis Ian have been underated figures that deserve a better consideration.
Your song is powerful. Thunder and Lightning...you poured your heart and soul into it! What an inspiration!! What an awesome diplay of strength and human spirit.THANX
I just viewed her pictures on her website. She's amazing, still looks like herself. How old can she be? Some ladies get better with age. She looks a lot like Darryl Hannah.
I just heard this song on the loudspeaker while pumping gas. Out of a dim memory I remembered it was Chi Coltrane. Gosh, I loved this song and still do.
Wow! The women of the 70's ROCKED! No theatrics, dancers, fire, or need to flip around upside down while hanging from the ceiling! They just got up there and rocked. Linda Ronstadt, Ann wilson. Stevie Nicks, Rickie Lee Jones, Bonnie Raitt....and this lady Chi Coltrane...awesome! Thanks Leotjoe for posting!
Why Chi's career never got bigger than it did remains a mystery. A fine, soulful voice, a good songwriter, and mighty easy on the eyes back in the day (and I suspect still is).
@Fitzmartel According to an interview on her website, poor health had something to do with her career not continuing. Apparently she had some sort of a hormone inbalance that caused her to feel fatigued and fall asleep. She has recently revived her career in Europe and played before a 100,000 person crowd in 2009.
Chi - wherever you are, I want to thank you for rocking my world in 73 & once again tonight with this song. You took what Carol King started then turned it up to eleven! Your energy made everything you touched even better. Thanks for always giving us your very best. GREAT POST Leotjoe!!! Thank you!!!
@davidcomora What station did you hear this song on? Definitely a hard to find one hit wonder, I believe you can get this song on one of the Have a Nice Day: Super Hits of the 1970s volumes and I believe the Volume was the 9th Volume.
I presume a daughter of the jazz great john coltrane? Fantastic song. Instant flashback to junior high school. Great song, great emotion in it. Great tempo changes. Thanks for posting.
I use to sneak into my older Brothers room when he was in The Marines in Nam & listen to his 45s I played this one over & over. I was 8 & I am 48 now & I still know it by heart.
BTW this is the only time I have heard since then.
I've loved this song since the first time I heard it...when released as a single. Didn't hear it much at the time. Then and years later, couldn't find it in record shops. Most oldie radio stations don't have it to play. (never heard of it!) So...
thanks for posting. Great song...wonderful voice. THIS is rock & roll!!!!
OMG,OMG,OMG!!! I have searched for this lady for over a decade. I had her original 33"album,and played it to death, almost literally. thank you for sharing this.gave it a perfect 5 stars.

song about a woman having multiple orgasms,i guess its always been always about the "O"....maybe the song should have been done by the group Climax or the climax blues band !!!
Brings back lots of cool memories. What seductive, electric, raw energy. That is one beautiful girl. Chi and Dusty Springfield were the pinnacle of American white girl soul.
But Chi wrote her own songs which is more amazing to me because it hard to keep up that energy. Even in great songs, if a artist doesn't cheat or cover somebody, you still hear dead spots, lyric perseveration, or abrupt music fade or conclusion. I'm not bashing Dusty or cover artists because if you listen to her version of "Go Like Elijah", you will see what I'm talking about.
Now this is music!! The kind that puts you up on your dining room table at 2 a.m. dancing with wild abandon, and you don't care if the neighbors see or not!!
ive got it on ktel, with a few seconds missing. Had to be one of the best songs of that year. Stands up perfectly today!

Theatrical and exquisite, and what a voice.
This isn't a song you just listen to. You enter into the drama of it.
I've embarrassed myself in public, listening on my I-pod, as Chi has demanded wide armed gestures along with her crazy song.
