  • Have you ever tried playing a short scale bass? My girlfriend has a Dean Evo XM short scale, and with the 30" scale length, it's easier to make longer note stretches. And it actually sounded pretty beastly, too. You might want to keep an eye out and try one out if you see one in a shop.

  • You have a very healthy approach to the bass by keeping your wrists straight. However, keep on working with those other fingers. It will pay off and you can overcome your illnesses over time!

  • i you have lupus and arthritis, ..the doc let you to play bass?... anyway, i love to see girls playing bass... it's sexy ;)

i'm a bass player too.. chilean... and you can lean more see billy sheehan or stu ham... greats bass players... but the fact that you can't play whit more left hand's finger limits you a lot ..

good jjob anyway... and lucky with that

(sorry about my english.. if it is wrong)

  • therapeutical bass playing? good idea.

  • no dude, you are doin' it rong..... use more than one finger....

  • I probably am doing it wrong. But read my bio....my channel is about learning to play bass with limited use of my joints, fingers, etc. due to a medical problem.

  • didn´t realise this was an old vid, you have developed your own technique over two years, definetly you are gettin' better with every vid congrats.....

  • As mentioned before, work on thoose fingers, another thing, would be to try and relax your right shoulder, other than that you're doing just fine!!!

  • I love to see girl playing bass :). But you have to learn how to use all fingers of your left hand or you ownt be able to play faster and more complicated songs in future. There are some videos of gary willis on youtube, check them out they are very helpful.

  • Thank you! Regarding my fingers, I totally agree, but if you read my channel info, I am trying to learn the bass with having Lupus and arthritis in my hands and fingers. My pinky and ring fingers don't work, so I'm trying to force them to work some way! But to no avail...YET....I'm gonna keep tryin!

  • wow a nice girl playing porcupine tree on bass (Y) youre goodd by the way :)

  • Thank you! I really need to redo this video. This is me struggling learning it. I've relaxed a bit since...at least I hope!!

  • wow you are very good, keep up the good work

  • Will you marry me?

  • Nice music, nice bass and nice player :p.

  • that a very nice playing for a beginner....4/5

  • nice playing on 9/8 rythm! i know its hard.

  • Thank you! I am winging it, I wish I knew more about all this stuff.

  • I love PT too, and it's inspirational to see someone with a physical condition who can play an instrument that I find to be very demanding on my back and fingers (and I'm a pretty big guy!), so thank you.

  • ROFLMAO!!! So true!!!

  • you gotta tell this person below me that we are already getting married XD jk but you are GOOOOD better than myself I must say

  • lol!!! as far as being better than you, I highly doubt that!!! I just got lucky on this riff, and figured it out. Notice I can't play the entire song? Yup, I haven't a clue!!

  • I'd marry you.

  • thats one bitchin' bass lol its crazy

  • Yea! I love my bass, and to think I wanted to sell it and get a black and white one...ugh! I love Fenders though, and I love the black and white colors still. But my little bass serves me quite well.

  • i hav a black and white bass its pretty cool i guess lol

  • I have a black and white fender P-bass I'm trying to get rid of lol. But your bass you have there looks a whole heck of a lot better than mine!

  • That is funny, because for so long, all I wanted was a black and white Fender P bass, then Geddy Lee came out with one. I was begging for it. But never got it, and have subsequently fell in love with my Peavey!!! So I guess the grass seems greener on the other side, but isn't always,

  • played in drop d but nice otherwise :)

  • yes yes, so true...and would be easier too!

  • Hey you play that very nicely!

Can you also play "trains" ?

  • nicely done. i can tell you that u can play this music!

check my mother and child divided :)))

    cya ! keep the work

  • Hey thank you! I know I could play it a lot better if I worked at it, I was just excited to get it almost right, so filmed it! I saw your video, you play awesome!

  • You just made my day by covering one of my all time favorite songs. Sounds pretty good, and thats definitely a compliment, since Colin (PT's bass player) always has amazing basslines.

  • Wow! Thanks! I LOVE this band and I got to see them live a couple of months ago, front row. I just stared at Colin's playing the entire time. It was SO cool. Really inspired me to keep practicing and to learn that relaxed flow he has. Thanks again!!

  • I'm jealous that you got to see them live, but there's a chance I will in october. Was Colin playing his Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo bass at the time? I love that thing with the double humbuckers.

  • I'll have to look at some photos to see. He was just SO cool and relaxed, most of the time had his eyes closed just feeling the music....Me getting to go was a surprise and fluke, it was sold out too....

  • Cool another person who plays Porcupine Tree keep up the good work.

  • Thanks, I know, they are SO cool!

  • hey again! really nice this one! I love the bass on this song! great job!

I'm gonna upload a version of this song real soon. I'll tell you something when I do. less U subscribed to me... think you did... lol

    keep it up!

  • Thanks, I will go see if I am subscribed to yours, if not I will. I want to see your covers!

  • forgive my ignorance, but if you try using your other fingers little by little won't it be good for them?? make a really long process progressive use of those thingers. I don't know how far they are disabled, but you seem to be able to move them, so... won't training improve them?

  • That is why I picked up bass playing, figured it was better than knitting! To try and keep my fingers moving. But they cramp up realllly bad. The pain is what gets me, so when I try using my pinky or ring fingers, I end up cramping up and hurting worse. But I have this squishy ball thing that I've been using trying to improve my strength in those fingers. I REALLY want to be able to use all the fingers on both hands.

  • What gauges of strings you are using? Factory standards are usually 45-105, and are medium heavy. If you try something like 40-100, they will be much easier to play.

  • you know, I don't know, they are the strings that came on the Peavey. I will check. I have another bass and the strings ae thicker.

  • cool

  • Just a little tip: It may be easier to play if you use your ring finger and your pinky.

  • Hi and thank you for the tip. But I have arthritis in my hands, not a cop out, just a disability that doesn't let me use all my fingers, so I have to slide a lot.

  • Ah, ouch. That really sucks.
