I'm glad Ellen cares about spreading awareness for Autism, but you cannot really "recover" from autism. The gluten free casein free diet can stop autism symptoms to a point, but what that kid did in the supermarket was a part of autism still. I'm autistic and my obsession is Ellen.

How can so many people ground their argument on "You need to meet a parent who has autism." This is a clear emotional appeal. I have a brother with a heart defect but for some reason I don't try to say it's because of doctors. This is a huge leap so many people seem to take and I don't understand it. Autism is terrible, but there's no guarantee on life. Sometimes people die and other people are not at fault; this thought never seems to cross the minds of these people.

autism can't be 'cured' but the severity of symptoms can be helped a lot through diet..i am not a doctor but i have read a lot of my sister's medical literature and it is amazing the way certain symptoms of illnesses can be reduced with proper nutrition, which so many children and adults lack nowadays

I can see how parents of autistic children are desperate for a cure. Newsflash - there isn't one. The next best thing? Finding someone to blame. The best part? She blames vaccinations but there is absolutely no medical evidence that vaccines cause autism. Thimerosal, a preservative containing mercury these anti-vaccination pushers were clinging onto as the cause of autism, was even removed from vaccines in 2001 and there has been NO decrease in the number of cases being reported every year. It's unfortunate that people believe her just because she's a celebrity. She has no medical background and is peddling false information to the public.

Thank you. I wish people would understand that they can help MANAGE autism.She makes it sound as if it completely goes away. She even said that she could bring back Evan's behaviors simply by taking him off the diet. If it completely went away, she wouldn't need to treat it period. Just to clarify, I do NOT support McCarthy. I would be better able to stomach her if she would talk about things that help MANAGE Evan's autism and realize that these kids also mature with age.

Autism is a condition that changes as time progresses, that's why autistic children seem to "recover." I never had to be detoxed or had the GFCF diet and I am doing great in society. On the SAT I made 450 in mathematics, 470 in Reading, 440 in writing, and a 4 on the essay. My dad had some autistic traits but he has not been diagnosed. My brother took the same vaccines as I did when we were 2 years old and he is neurotypical.

My daughter was tested to have 260 mg. of mercury excreted from her boy and 3mg was the reference range.

It isn't simple at all! It's VERY expensive. I forgot to mention a diet of no wheat, no dairy must also be followed. And many vitamins and other supplements that is not covered by insurance. My daughter is also no "cured". Many kids are. The damage was done to my daughter. At least she can talk and ask questions. She's not in la la land anymore. And many thousands DO know about this. There's a protocol called "DAN!"=Defeat autism now that is followed. ONe must see a DAN DR-very expensive.

This is what happens when a person who's not especially bright develops a dangerous obsession. McCarthy has not done her research, there is no proven link between vaccines (that have saved millions of lives) and autism spectrum disorders. I disagree with you! A mother would do what ever it takes to help her child. I believe that Jenny did a lot of research in order to help her son. If you look at other interviews, you can see that she knows what she's talking about. And most importantly she insists on the fact that there is no cure for autism, you can only make the situation better by different ways. I don't like her as an actress, but I believe that she's a very good mother. She proves that blonds are not always stupid.

Jenny McCarthy ran a site called "IndigoMoms" in which she clearly states her beliefs that her son is an evolved spiritual being with a purple aura brought to earth to save humanity. She includes forums with angel-talkers and exercises with crystals. She has *no* business giving her scientific opinion on *anything* much less important medical research. From your comment, it seems that you know very little about autism. Autism is not a disease, it is a neurological disorder. With early diagnoses and intervention, children CAN recover from autism! I work with children with autism, and I have met some children that no longer meet the criteria of an autistic child. They are considered recovered.
