Progressive tends to describe music which utilises technical music. It is quite a general term and not a genre, which is probably why you haven't heard of it, as you seem to know nothing about anything.

Take odd time signatures for example; they're not used often in popular music, that's what they mean by challenging the music, however, it's not doing something weird with for example the guitar, therefore it's not challenging the music physically.
