Thanks for posting this nostalgic clip. I've been a great fan of Horizon over the years, though I think it has dumbed down a lot recently. It would be great if they brought back Paul Vaughn to do some of the Horizon narration too - he had a fine, authoritative voice that suited the program really well.
I have an old video from 1983 of Horizon with this theme tune on which is called 'The attack on HMS Sheffield' from the Falklands war. I hope to put it on sometime when i've got the time.
@ajs41 Hear hear! I was a kid, well 12 years old at the time of this clip, but you always learned something watching programmes like this, QED and tommorows world.
Didnt see your comment was 10 months old. Bloody new Youtube set up!
Thank you SO much for uploading this, I've been seeking it for some time on this website...

@cisco9x the guy above suggests "Arena" but it could also have been "The World About Us"

I remember watching videos of this series of Horizon in a ex-WW2 army-issue pre-fab classroom when I was in the second year back in 1985/6.
The titles and the haunting theme music brings back happy memories.
My God - can it really be all of 23 years ago.

Back in the days when programmes like Horizon and QED didn't assume viewers were morons (although I was only a kid at the time).

Did Brian Eno write the opening music for Horizon?
jamesgoldsbury 2 years ago
No,the guy who wrote this theme music was Robin Brightwell//I remember this because I wrote to the guy//

I always found this music very haunting. The programme nearky akways seemed to be about UFOs too!

This was back in the day when BBC1 played American imports in prime time.I thought Horizon was a BBC2 show.

It was, usually, but it was evidently on BBC1 on this occasion only.
The date is Wednesday 12th March 1986.
