  • These figure designs, their animations, and backgrounds look wonderful. Oh how I wish we could play something like this, whether it had been Fallout 3 or Van Buren...

  • Obviously this was going to be Fallout with a different title. Like what Fallout was to Wasteland.

  • Great music. It was a nice surprise to hear it pop up on my headphones.

  • Worry do not... or do.

Our little relatives(~15yrs old) and our own children will say same things about future and nowadays games, as we do now like @z00x and @GamePreorders

Never ending way of human complaining since we stood on two ;-)

*sigh* I want to be an Argonian or intelligent Death Claw. What is interesting both are reptiles :-P

  • I loved Troika games (fallout series, Arcanum, and now this...)....

  • Diablo II is not an RPG, only a 3rd person shooter without a gun.

    Fallout 2 and Planescape rule!

  • Reminds me of Fallout. Like a better-looking Van-Buren.

  • that would be pretty cool if in the fallouts could change perspective

  • Thumbs up if you would murder bethesda if you could

  • Would have been awesome to see Fallout 3...

  • You're tearing me apart Bethesda!

  • Bethesda you rape the Fallout series, so i must kill you!

  • Sometimes I dream of an isometric fallout sequel like this one, where in it there's a witty reference to the cancellation of "firefly" and how sometime around the turn of the 21st century mankind turned it's back on fantastic sci-fi

  • terrible fps

  • This would probably be such a awesome game. Arcanum 2 Rise of technology. Ah man, Troika, why.. Why did you abandon us! (I know why, still sad tho :P)

  • @Zeratchi Was actually called Journey to the Centre of Arcanum.

  • @EdgeZombie I know, but that was just a example :P Any "Arcanum 2 *random text*" would have been awesome :P

  • Bethesda watched this video right before they bought the rights to Fallout from Interplay

  • Looking at this, it makes me sad. Not jsut because Troika got shut down, but because this shows you how much love Tim had for Fallout. When he wasn't on the dev team anymore, he created a game similar to it (even the retro-futuristic theme is in there. Look at the cars!)...

Well, at least Tim's at Obsidian with the members of his old team...

  • @TehGamersGarage yeah, but its not certain if hes gonna stay...hes contract expires in march i think, i heard a rumor hes gonna join blizz with leonard

  • @Vladutz2000 I knew it was temporary. But, who knows, he says he'll talk it over when the time comes...

  • @TehGamersGarage obsidian is now working on a wheel of time game, and an unnounaunced game based on a cartoon

  • @Vladutz2000 I know, mein fruend.

    Fanboys know the shizzlez. XD

  • Love the ambient background music

  • OMG THIS IS UNFAIR! :( they shud totally come back and finish this game

  • It'd be the best RPG ever for me - it's 100% my style.

  • These days most RPGs are consolized, dumbed down, linear "action RPG" types. I want to see a comeback of old school PC RPG like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Daggerfall, and in later days NWN, Morrowind, NWN2.

  • @GamePreorders Sadly we woun't see it. Those days are over as big money, corporations, reality and the all the other s***t hit the fan :| There are far to many customers that love next gen RPG (sic!) and not enough "us" oldtimers to make producing such games worth effort /time /money.

Righ now we're at the same situation as our fathers - in their childhood they loved those classic John Wayne's westerns and suddenly it was over. Every generation have to loose sth they love.

    sry for my english

  • @GamePreorders Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights and IceWind Dale are so linear, the most linear of computer RPGs.

  • @GamePreorders don't forget a master piece (thank God i have it): Arcanum :D

  • Thanks for the post

  • Troika...COME BACK

  • Troika....Damn it....

  • I just got done with Bloodlines... this shit is fucking sad.

    I want a damn sequel!

    And this!

  • This makes Me sad as hell :(

    R.I.P. Troika Games

  • nice song

  • if THIS gets cancelled while horseshit like fallout 3 gets all the funds it needs - this world is in serious trouble

  • @movchok activision was willing to give troika the funds to make fallout3 but guess who outbid them and killed em

  • @Vladutz2000 It doesn't matter if Acti was willing to give them funding or not. Acti never had the rights to the game, thus it would've been pointless.

  • @TehGamersGarage beth aoutbidd both obsidian and troika, this killed troika and gave us a shit game that twats can enjoy endlesly and brag about how theyr super inteligent because they like rpgs

  • Troika Games needs to come back. I want a 3rd game in the vampire series.

  • Even the engine demo has better immersion than modern games.

  • Troikas closing marks the end of true rpg games :/

  • Troika Games was a best game studio that I've ever seen.

  • Wow i really like the music behind this video, cheers *

  • I hate when games get cancelled, you always wonder what the game would have been like but unfortunately you will never know.

  • Long live the fighters.

  • Tell me of your homeworld Usul...

  • Shame that they could not find any publishers, it seems that new games are for kids, easy to play, hack and slash, with simple maps: start |----------------------------------------- end, no stress, you don't have to think...

  • @z00x yeah, dumb games just with "cool" graphics -___- who cares that... old school RPG's was the best

  • 95000th viewer!!! =D

  • Dune!!

  • I love everything about what this looks like except for that monster thing. It just looks so damn goofy.

  • Its sad when a company who makes post-apocaliptic rpg´s closes, sadly this is the case, troika games has closed ):

  • All you people need to get your nostalgic asses over to Steam and play The Witcher. It is polished, good looking, and nonlinear. It also has a good story.

Now stop whining and enjoy the shiny graphics.

  • Design > Art (Graphics) > Code; certainly explains a lot, but THAT is a philosophy for developing games. RIP Troika. Hell, RIP Black Isle. We don't have RPG developers like that nowadays

  • The failure of Black Isle and Troika is a microcosm of what went wrong in the gaming industry as a whole. It's really sad.

Hey, maybe as development tools and programming knowledge become more accessible, we'll see a wave of independent/small developers stepping forward to make interesting games again. We can hope.

  • @yunikage the reason why games look like they look is that nowadays huge companies don't want people to think too much. We are to click and then click one more time. Who cares about thinking. Buy, complete the game quickly and then buy one more title. Who cares about thinking. Back then the companies that produced games had to create games that were gripping and not easy to put down. Today it's a lot easier. Why bother. If people buy stupid and not complicated games let's mage them

  • fallout one and two, vampire masquerade:bloodlines were some of best games ever, up there with that gamer joy you felt when you first say the city 17 in HL 2.

    We need more of that.

  • I like the concept! It's like a Diablo game set in Post-apocalyse theme.

  • @aciddeathadder ya this is exactly what came to my mind

  • Original Dune music?

  • Sad to watch, as it will never come out :(

  • I'm willing to bet my boots this was a sequel to Arcanum...

  • This looks fricken' cool. I want more. MOAR!

  • Where did you get this?

  • Comment removed

  • February 28 2005. Troika Games is declared defunct. Saddest day in gaming history

  • @doee990 Almost as sad as when Looking Glass closed its doors, eh?

  • @IB112

You're such a fucking idiot. Isometric RPGs are their own genre. It has nothing to do with limitations. Look at Diablo 3 or Dragon Age.

  • @ChudFapper Well said!

  • @IB112

There's been 3rd person RPGs for decades now. Check out Anachronox. Its hardly a hardware limitation. Stupid noob think fallout 3 is the first 3rd person rpg ever made.

  • @IB112

This is third person you idiot. xD - Fallout 3 is first person.

  • what happened to this engine? seems like the best engine i've ever seen.

  • i think my pc would lag it's cpu off and cough out the dvd-rom while playing this, but still i'd like to try it o.O

  • this would have been a good game, shame that they didn't continue...

  • i think this was actually fallout3 they tried to buy the rights and got the funding if they did but the real fans at bethesda bought it and created a very good fps/rpg, to bad the rpg parts were shit and the combat crap

  • @Vladutz2000

No this was made after Bethesda bought the Fallout IP. This was going to be a new post-apoc game, a "spiritual successor" to Fallout, but they went out of business sadly.

  • In my opinion the best game they made was Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines. Becouse others were too much based on fiction. And Vampires was with much closer to the real world.

  • You sure it wasnt released?

I remember seeing a very bad RPG that looked like that. I cant remember the name but I had the demo. I remember that players controled a girl who was followed by a robot.

  • @relmatos Sounds like Septerra Core to me :P

  • engine is shit bro

low framerate for a tech demo

    gloryfied Fallout 2 gameplay

    RTS engine

  • @barneysixx From what i remember the released version of the Van Buren project used roughly the same engine as this. The only reason i can think of that this seems to have a low FPS is bc it was a very early tech demo of the engine before they polished it up, especially since they were able to turn off both textures and shaders halfway through. However i cant say its shit. I havent seen lighting that good in any outdoor game until Red Dead Redemption.

  • plummy video

  • Damn, the lighting looks far more impressive than some of the games in 2008 and 2009. Balls, I wish this released =.=...

  • Oh I love so much afternoons in post apo... ehhh....

  • I love the feel of the old top down RPGs, they should do something like this with a dynamic real time combat system, like Diablo.

  • Prophecy Theme from Dune?

  • There is an incredibly sad air to this whole video, the atmosphere and music perfectly capture how sad it is that this game never finished development.

  • Looks thrilling....

  • I think, it might be a great game...

    What's a pity, that it hadn't released.

P.S. What a beautiful music plays in movie? Is it something from game soundtrack or just good ambient music? Where I can download this track?

  • Oh, I'm sorry, this is Brian Eno - Prophecy :)

I might look a little more comments ;)

  • @RangerDimidr0 it kinda sounds like the music from stalker, the movie not the game

  • @RangerDimidr0 Check Prophecy Theme - Brian Eno - Dune Soundtrack

  • @Max0Inq, oh, that's my mistake.

    Thanks!

  • Fallout 3 Rules..!

  • I hate producers who sayed no to this! It's fuckin' amazin'! ´(

  • Fallout 3 was a fun game to play, but nothing like the awesomeness of pure RPG like fallout 1, 2 and other troika games like arcanum.

Fallout 3 sacrificed grandness with better graphics.

Need more games like how troika made them. Diverse and complex storylines, huge worlds, near unlimited possibilities. Not some cool looking but rather linear rpg like the ones made now.

  • @Asrudin

completely agree. nowadays, rpg richness is sacrificed by the graphics delirium. the better the graphics, the poorer the gameplay and richness of the game. rpg computer gaming is turning dumb.

  • @Asrudin

completely agree. nowadays, rpg richness is sacrificed by the graphics delirium. the better the graphics, the poorer the gameplay and richness of the game. rpg computer gaming is turning dumb.

  • @Asrudin Just like you said, FO3 is another example of what is nowadays known as the "graphics whore generation". Another, fresh example of this is Diablo III, where the Barbarian is depicted as a medieval version of the "Incredible Hulk", jumping over 9 feet off the floor and smashing the ground, creating shockwaves; a martial artist (monk) that can throw dozens of punches per sec, and so on.

Not to mention games get easier and easier everyday, at the point of not being noob proof anymore.

  • @Asrudin troika didn't make fallout 1 and 2 kid

  • @Wedwickboy Google 'Tim Cain', the people that made Fallout 1 and 2 left Interplay to create Troika. Same people. Tim Cain is the mind behind Fallout 1, 2 and Troika Games (Arcanum, ToEE, Bloodlines). Tim Cain worked solely on Fallout 1 for several months even. He's the brainchild of it all.

And to me, Tim Cain is Troika. So Fallout 1 and 2 are also kind of Troika. :P

  • @Wedwickboy

No... But the leads at Troika included the principals that designed Fallout 1, and the design docs for Fallout 2.

  • @Asrudin honestly i do like fallout 3 more than 1&2, and n face its my favourite game ever

  • Troika and Bethesda, Cumbria and Tarant, such an irony...

  • The music is amazing, wonder why not put something like this into F3 or F: NW...

  • thats fallout van buren

  • this is van buren

  • Looks nice, but I'm not sure if I would've bought an isometric RPG in 2005-2006.

  • whats the name of this game?tell me please...........

  • i like this ...... btw somebody playing Fallout 2238 ?

  • I bet if it was up to the nostalgic fans - this is how Fallout 3 would have looked like.

  • I wouldn't have minded a game with the oldschool FO view. But unless it worked well on consoles as well I wouldn't have wanted Fallout 3 to be like this.

  • The song is called "Prophecy" and it's by Brian Eno.

  • Troika by far made some amazing CRPGs beyond human comprehension. They will be missed dearly. No other gaming company I've seen can develop games that are obscure and with incredible dialogue. Only draw-back was the time fixing the bugs, but that's just a little negative to this company. You won't get gaming companies like this these days who care more about quantity than quality.

  • @visionimagify err rockstar make quantity dude...bout the only company i can think of...maybe blizzard also...

  • The Music is from the 'DUNE' Soundtrack btw

  • Holy shit! Textures in this game are even better than in CoP!

  • thats amazing. I ve no words for this video. The grafics seem impressive for its time, the sound is absolutely atmospheric. Oh man! Any chance to test the preview edition?

  • cool

  • No, this was a masterpiece from the very beginning..

  • They were buggy, but Arcanum and VtMB were freaking masterpieces.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar Well that's what unofficial patches are for ;)

  • @ResurrectedTemplar They were buggy because the company didn't have a lot of income to sustain and fix issues in their games. Troika was an independently owned company and made some of the best games to date. SAd that mainstream companies don't allow small studios to do their games anymore.

  • @ResurrectedTemplar and with the community Patches they were PERFECT !

  • @ResurrectedTemplar I prefer a buggy but ambitious and creative game than a polished but bland one.

  • i've only finished fallout 1& 2 .

In the comments , some guys say fallout 3 isn't that cool , is that true ?

  • @dawood88 it depends... for example I was quite excited when I started to playing it, but after sth like half of the game the dissapointment took over and the ending made it even worse.

But there are many who likes it, I would say mostly those who enjoy nowadays multiplatform games. If You do, You should try. If You don't - better keep away from F3.

  • ok thank :)

  • @milczyciel Soon as I was a little into F3 i was disappointed as hell. No atmosphere, shitty voice acting, shitty modeling, shitty map design, shitty combat, shitty story, shitty graphics, shitty missions, nothing about this game comes even close to F1/2. Bethesda's most epic fail to date.

  • agreed

  • I've started F3 again in the meantime and I must confess that I was trying hard to enjoy the experience. Even enchanced it with some modding but nevertheless I failed horribly.

Or wait? Maybe it was the game not me?

I know I sound like and old fart, but "gaming" is not the same anymore :|

  • the only games worth playing right now seem like the mass effect series to me.. at least they're still immersive..

  • It,s realized by bethesda.....is the same as oblivion, but in the fallout universe.

  • Well it's nothing like fallout 1 & 2. It's 1st/3rd person shooter dropped into fallout universe. Oblivion with guns is pretty accurate description of it. It is better than Oblivion but that's not saying much as Oblivion was boring and stale as hell. It does have tons more diversity of terrain and enemies so every place does not look the same (every cave, castle and alyid ruin looked more or less the same in oblivion).

  • For a completely open world without a mega linear super scripted singleplayer, it was executed phenomenally. Graphics were great, the game was fun, the combat system was incredible and revolutionary, and character customization was genius.

You may not have liked the game, but it was a VERY well made game. I don't really like classical music, but I completely respect it as masterpieces.

  • This definatly has Fallout feel in it.

  • So is this downloadable from an abandonware site? Wow, I'd buy it on cdrom if they had released it. I like the switch between 1st and 3rd person.

  • Superb...

  • Too all the guys who lament that Black Isle died and Fallout 3 isnt true to the other parts - do something about it!

Help projects that want to recreate feelings of Fallout 1 and 2. There are MANY, just google! (I wont recommend any project because I myself am involved in one, but really)

GO AND BECOME ACTIVE. It doesnt mean you have to invest countless hours, but YOUR activity HELPS other people remain active. If only to get "a view from another side".

  • It's a shame Black Isle Studios were closed, and Bethesda made Fallout 3. Also very sad, that this game didnt come out at all. The good news is that two of the original Fallout key developers are working on some MMO for Interplay :)

  • You can't compare Fallout 3 to this on anything other than the fact that it's post-apocalyptic.

Not a whole lot of similarities here, in my opinion. They're two different types of games. I know Fallout 3 is good (Go ahead and poop in your diapers, crybabies), but all I know is this looks sort of okay.

Two different games. Comparison is not logical.

  • @SlowRiotNewKanada

So you can't compare Fallout 2 & Fallout 3, except that they are post-apocalyptic AND they have the same title ?

  • Someone doesn't get it.

Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 are the same franchise. The same series, the same mythos, whatever you want to call it.

Fallout 3 and Untitled Post-apocalyptic RPG aren't the same franchise (as far as we know? It looks like the early Van Buren build for BIS's next fallout game) and we know nothing of the plot other than the post-apocalyptic thing.

This isn't all that hard of a concept to grasp here, fella.

  • @nonostanovich They're set in the same universe, and what's canon in F2 is canon in F3 and vice versa, wise ass.

  • This is would have been much better than Fallout 3

  • @vulpesz no this wouldnt have been better then fallout 3...

  • @Crraabbmmaann

Yes it would have. Fallout 3 is complete total shit. It's an Oblivion FPS mod, that is all it ever fucking will be compared to Fallout 1 and 2. Crabman huh? Sounds like an Oblivion fan. Mudcrabs, horrible creatures.

  • @vulpesz

but Bethesta got their dirty hands on it!

  • fuck u

  • @vulpesz Yea, no

  • @vulpesz Any RPG made by those guys would've been betten than Fallout 3. Though you have to admit Troika games are usually buggy as hell.

  • @vulpesz Ha, anything would be, Fallout 3 was a MOCKERY to the series.

  • @vulpesz You're not the only one thinking that buddy. I really didn't like fallout 3 and new vegas makes me want to chuck up a lung. But I bought it (WINK WINK NUNDGE NUDGE) like everyone else.

  • It makes me cry.

  • Look at the date...

This was done 4 years ago and it looks good..

so you can´t compare Fallout 3 with this masterpiece

  • Every time i watch this, I am cursing at Herve Caen for selling the Fallout license to Bethesda instead of Troika.

  • It's like watching starcraft ghost footage.

  • Is the music we hear part of the tech demo itself or was it added for the video? Either way I MUST know where to get it, either to buy it or not, I want it, what is it called?

And, as a side note, whatever has happened to that project after the developers closed their doors? Is it being re-started by another team?

Anyway, I have the feeling that Fallout 4 should be like that, top-view, 3D environment, dramatic scenery, suspenseful music themes.

  • That Music is from the old and first DUNE movie
