Sometimes I dream of an isometric fallout sequel like this one, where in it there's a witty reference to the cancellation of "firefly" and how sometime around the turn of the 21st century mankind turned it's back on fantastic sci-fi
This would probably be such a awesome game. Arcanum 2 Rise of technology. Ah man, Troika, why.. Why did you abandon us! (I know why, still sad tho :P)
Looking at this, it makes me sad. Not jsut because Troika got shut down, but because this shows you how much love Tim had for Fallout. When he wasn't on the dev team anymore, he created a game similar to it (even the retro-futuristic theme is in there. Look at the cars!)...
Well, at least Tim's at Obsidian with the members of his old team...
@TehGamersGarage yeah, but its not certain if hes gonna stay...hes contract expires in march i think, i heard a rumor hes gonna join blizz with leonard
These days most RPGs are consolized, dumbed down, linear "action RPG" types. I want to see a comeback of old school PC RPG like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Daggerfall, and in later days NWN, Morrowind, NWN2.
@GamePreorders Sadly we woun't see it. Those days are over as big money, corporations, reality and the all the other s***t hit the fan :| There are far to many customers that love next gen RPG (sic!) and not enough "us" oldtimers to make producing such games worth effort /time /money.
Righ now we're at the same situation as our fathers - in their childhood they loved those classic John Wayne's westerns and suddenly it was over. Every generation have to loose sth they love.
@Vladutz2000 It doesn't matter if Acti was willing to give them funding or not. Acti never had the rights to the game, thus it would've been pointless.
@TehGamersGarage beth aoutbidd both obsidian and troika, this killed troika and gave us a shit game that twats can enjoy endlesly and brag about how theyr super inteligent because they like rpgs
Shame that they could not find any publishers, it seems that new games are for kids, easy to play, hack and slash, with simple maps: start |----------------------------------------- end, no stress, you don't have to think...
All you people need to get your nostalgic asses over to Steam and play The Witcher. It is polished, good looking, and nonlinear. It also has a good story.
Design > Art (Graphics) > Code; certainly explains a lot, but THAT is a philosophy for developing games. RIP Troika. Hell, RIP Black Isle. We don't have RPG developers like that nowadays
The failure of Black Isle and Troika is a microcosm of what went wrong in the gaming industry as a whole. It's really sad.
Hey, maybe as development tools and programming knowledge become more accessible, we'll see a wave of independent/small developers stepping forward to make interesting games again. We can hope.
@yunikage the reason why games look like they look is that nowadays huge companies don't want people to think too much. We are to click and then click one more time. Who cares about thinking. Buy, complete the game quickly and then buy one more title. Who cares about thinking. Back then the companies that produced games had to create games that were gripping and not easy to put down. Today it's a lot easier. Why bother. If people buy stupid and not complicated games let's mage them
fallout one and two, vampire masquerade:bloodlines were some of best games ever, up there with that gamer joy you felt when you first say the city 17 in HL 2.

Good god I hate all you people.
Isometric was used because of limitations of hard ware at the time. Given half the chance Troika would have made their own Fallout 3 a 3rd person RPG themselves.
There's been 3rd person RPGs for decades now. Check out Anachronox. Its hardly a hardware limitation. Stupid noob think fallout 3 is the first 3rd person rpg ever made.
i think this was actually fallout3 they tried to buy the rights and got the funding if they did but the real fans at bethesda bought it and created a very good fps/rpg, to bad the rpg parts were shit and the combat crap
No this was made after Bethesda bought the Fallout IP. This was going to be a new post-apoc game, a "spiritual successor" to Fallout, but they went out of business sadly.
In my opinion the best game they made was Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines. Becouse others were too much based on fiction. And Vampires was with much closer to the real world.
I remember seeing a very bad RPG that looked like that. I cant remember the name but I had the demo. I remember that players controled a girl who was followed by a robot.
@barneysixx From what i remember the released version of the Van Buren project used roughly the same engine as this. The only reason i can think of that this seems to have a low FPS is bc it was a very early tech demo of the engine before they polished it up, especially since they were able to turn off both textures and shaders halfway through. However i cant say its shit. I havent seen lighting that good in any outdoor game until Red Dead Redemption.

@Asrudin Just like you said, FO3 is another example of what is nowadays known as the "graphics whore generation". Another, fresh example of this is Diablo III, where the Barbarian is depicted as a medieval version of the "Incredible Hulk", jumping over 9 feet off the floor and smashing the ground, creating shockwaves; a martial artist (monk) that can throw dozens of punches per sec, and so on.
Not to mention games get easier and easier everyday, at the point of not being noob proof anymore.
@Wedwickboy Google 'Tim Cain', the people that made Fallout 1 and 2 left Interplay to create Troika. Same people. Tim Cain is the mind behind Fallout 1, 2 and Troika Games (Arcanum, ToEE, Bloodlines). Tim Cain worked solely on Fallout 1 for several months even. He's the brainchild of it all.
And to me, Tim Cain is Troika. So Fallout 1 and 2 are also kind of Troika. :P
I wouldn't have minded a game with the oldschool FO view. But unless it worked well on consoles as well I wouldn't have wanted Fallout 3 to be like this.
Troika by far made some amazing CRPGs beyond human comprehension. They will be missed dearly. No other gaming company I've seen can develop games that are obscure and with incredible dialogue. Only draw-back was the time fixing the bugs, but that's just a little negative to this company. You won't get gaming companies like this these days who care more about quantity than quality.
thats amazing. I ve no words for this video. The grafics seem impressive for its time, the sound is absolutely atmospheric. Oh man! Any chance to test the preview edition?
@ResurrectedTemplar They were buggy because the company didn't have a lot of income to sustain and fix issues in their games. Troika was an independently owned company and made some of the best games to date. SAd that mainstream companies don't allow small studios to do their games anymore.
@dawood88 it depends... for example I was quite excited when I started to playing it, but after sth like half of the game the dissapointment took over and the ending made it even worse.
But there are many who likes it, I would say mostly those who enjoy nowadays multiplatform games. If You do, You should try. If You don't - better keep away from F3.
@milczyciel Soon as I was a little into F3 i was disappointed as hell. No atmosphere, shitty voice acting, shitty modeling, shitty map design, shitty combat, shitty story, shitty graphics, shitty missions, nothing about this game comes even close to F1/2. Bethesda's most epic fail to date.
I've started F3 again in the meantime and I must confess that I was trying hard to enjoy the experience. Even enchanced it with some modding but nevertheless I failed horribly.
Or wait? Maybe it was the game not me?
I know I sound like and old fart, but "gaming" is not the same anymore :|
Well it's nothing like fallout 1 & 2. It's 1st/3rd person shooter dropped into fallout universe. Oblivion with guns is pretty accurate description of it. It is better than Oblivion but that's not saying much as Oblivion was boring and stale as hell. It does have tons more diversity of terrain and enemies so every place does not look the same (every cave, castle and alyid ruin looked more or less the same in oblivion).
For a completely open world without a mega linear super scripted singleplayer, it was executed phenomenally. Graphics were great, the game was fun, the combat system was incredible and revolutionary, and character customization was genius.
You may not have liked the game, but it was a VERY well made game. I don't really like classical music, but I completely respect it as masterpieces.
Too all the guys who lament that Black Isle died and Fallout 3 isnt true to the other parts - do something about it!
Help projects that want to recreate feelings of Fallout 1 and 2. There are MANY, just google! (I wont recommend any project because I myself am involved in one, but really)
GO AND BECOME ACTIVE. It doesnt mean you have to invest countless hours, but YOUR activity HELPS other people remain active. If only to get "a view from another side".
It's a shame Black Isle Studios were closed, and Bethesda made Fallout 3. Also very sad, that this game didnt come out at all. The good news is that two of the original Fallout key developers are working on some MMO for Interplay :)
You can't compare Fallout 3 to this on anything other than the fact that it's post-apocalyptic.
Not a whole lot of similarities here, in my opinion. They're two different types of games. I know Fallout 3 is good (Go ahead and poop in your diapers, crybabies), but all I know is this looks sort of okay.
Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 are the same franchise. The same series, the same mythos, whatever you want to call it.
Fallout 3 and Untitled Post-apocalyptic RPG aren't the same franchise (as far as we know? It looks like the early Van Buren build for BIS's next fallout game) and we know nothing of the plot other than the post-apocalyptic thing.
This isn't all that hard of a concept to grasp here, fella.
Yes it would have. Fallout 3 is complete total shit. It's an Oblivion FPS mod, that is all it ever fucking will be compared to Fallout 1 and 2. Crabman huh? Sounds like an Oblivion fan. Mudcrabs, horrible creatures.
@vulpesz You're not the only one thinking that buddy. I really didn't like fallout 3 and new vegas makes me want to chuck up a lung. But I bought it (WINK WINK NUNDGE NUDGE) like everyone else.

And Fallout 3s development was started in july 2004...
Anyway people have different tastes, and I, among many others loves Fallout 3 as Bethesda made it. And I know Im gonna get thumbs down for saying this as the majority of people watching this is against Fallout 3, so bring it on!
Is the music we hear part of the tech demo itself or was it added for the video? Either way I MUST know where to get it, either to buy it or not, I want it, what is it called?
And, as a side note, whatever has happened to that project after the developers closed their doors? Is it being re-started by another team?
Anyway, I have the feeling that Fallout 4 should be like that, top-view, 3D environment, dramatic scenery, suspenseful music themes.
These figure designs, their animations, and backgrounds look wonderful. Oh how I wish we could play something like this, whether it had been Fallout 3 or Van Buren...

to be fair, Troika's games have all been a technical mess, and this game would most likely be buggy as hell if it were released.
JinrohDFLL 2 years ago
They were buggy, but Arcanum and VtMB were freaking masterpieces.
ResurrectedTemplar 2 years ago 90
@ResurrectedTemplar Well that's what unofficial patches are for ;)
Tiars666tiamat 1 year ago
@ResurrectedTemplar They were buggy because the company didn't have a lot of income to sustain and fix issues in their games. Troika was an independently owned company and made some of the best games to date. SAd that mainstream companies don't allow small studios to do their games anymore.

@ResurrectedTemplar and with the community Patches they were PERFECT !

@ResurrectedTemplar I prefer a buggy but ambitious and creative game than a polished but bland one.

i've only finished fallout 1& 2 .
In the comments , some guys say fallout 3 isn't that cool , is that true ?
dawood88 2 years ago 4
@dawood88 it depends... for example I was quite excited when I started to playing it, but after sth like half of the game the dissapointment took over and the ending made it even worse.
But there are many who likes it, I would say mostly those who enjoy nowadays multiplatform games. If You do, You should try. If You don't - better keep away from F3.
milczyciel 2 years ago 2
ok thank :)
dawood88 2 years ago
@milczyciel Soon as I was a little into F3 i was disappointed as hell. No atmosphere, shitty voice acting, shitty modeling, shitty map design, shitty combat, shitty story, shitty graphics, shitty missions, nothing about this game comes even close to F1/2. Bethesda's most epic fail to date.
trisky1234 2 years ago
agreed
LuminousPath13 2 years ago
I've started F3 again in the meantime and I must confess that I was trying hard to enjoy the experience. Even enchanced it with some modding but nevertheless I failed horribly.
Or wait? Maybe it was the game not me?
I know I sound like and old fart, but "gaming" is not the same anymore :|
milczyciel 2 years ago
the only games worth playing right now seem like the mass effect series to me.. at least they're still immersive..
trisky1234 2 years ago
It,s realized by bethesda.....is the same as oblivion, but in the fallout universe.
trietotatrieto 2 years ago 2
Well it's nothing like fallout 1 & 2. It's 1st/3rd person shooter dropped into fallout universe. Oblivion with guns is pretty accurate description of it. It is better than Oblivion but that's not saying much as Oblivion was boring and stale as hell. It does have tons more diversity of terrain and enemies so every place does not look the same (every cave, castle and alyid ruin looked more or less the same in oblivion).
Petrell 2 years ago
For a completely open world without a mega linear super scripted singleplayer, it was executed phenomenally. Graphics were great, the game was fun, the combat system was incredible and revolutionary, and character customization was genius.
You may not have liked the game, but it was a VERY well made game. I don't really like classical music, but I completely respect it as masterpieces.
brewskhee 2 years ago 2
This definatly has Fallout feel in it.

So is this downloadable from an abandonware site? Wow, I'd buy it on cdrom if they had released it. I like the switch between 1st and 3rd person.

If only to get "a view from another side".
shevegen 2 years ago 3
It's a shame Black Isle Studios were closed, and Bethesda made Fallout 3. Also very sad, that this game didnt come out at all. The good news is that two of the original Fallout key developers are working on some MMO for Interplay :)
denehez 2 years ago 7
You can't compare Fallout 3 to this on anything other than the fact that it's post-apocalyptic.
Not a whole lot of similarities here, in my opinion. They're two different types of games. I know Fallout 3 is good (Go ahead and poop in your diapers, crybabies), but all I know is this looks sort of okay.
Two different games. Comparison is not logical.

@SlowRiotNewKanada
So you can't compare Fallout 2 & Fallout 3, except that they are post-apocalyptic AND they have the same title ?
nonostanovich 2 years ago
Someone doesn't get it.
SlowRiotNewKanada 2 years ago
@nonostanovich They're set in the same universe, and what's canon in F2 is canon in F3 and vice versa, wise ass.

@Crraabbmmaann
Yes it would have. Fallout 3 is complete total shit. It's an Oblivion FPS mod, that is all it ever fucking will be compared to Fallout 1 and 2. Crabman huh? Sounds like an Oblivion fan. Mudcrabs, horrible creatures.

And Fallout 3s development was started in july 2004...
Anyway people have different tastes, and I, among many others loves Fallout 3 as Bethesda made it. And I know Im gonna get thumbs down for saying this as the majority of people watching this is against Fallout 3, so bring it on!

Every time i watch this, I am cursing at Herve Caen for selling the Fallout license to Bethesda instead of Troika.
