This is, as it is known, the "little" G minor fugue. It was never intended to be another epic fugue. On the other hand, it is an excellent teaching piece, and it clearly demonstrates Bach's skill at fugal writing. Because of its simplicity, the various voices are always audible (when played with the appropriate registration) and it's easy to trace the entry and recapitulation of the theme in all four voices. It's lighter...and that's by design.
