  • Love the Eric <3

  • Yeah, people, quit this race talk. I dont want to see a white European playing Aladdin for example, or black girl playing Mulan. It has nothing to do with the race. Im no white myself. It's just ruining the whole story.

  • I don't like this Eric...he's so over dramatic!

  • How they made Eric in this one, he's very childish. Almost annoying.

  • @strawberritiffanyxo Hmm u can say that again. Didn't even match his charateristics. Also Sebastian does not have the acent he did in the moveie. Too wouldn't u agree

  • @Bugie78 I looooooove Sebastian. I could just live without Eric

  • This looks fucking horrible. And I don't know what's going on about people bitchin' about race and what not and I will surely get a lot of stick for this BUT Eric should be white. You can't go around changing characters race. If it's okay for Eric to be black then Ariel should be black too. Or Asian. But OH NO. We wouldn't do that. So why mess with Eric?

  • i just dont like the ponytail... but he's a wonderful singer!

  • I can't understand a WORD they're saying!!!!!

  • All the cast members are brilliant apart from Eric. He seems lovely but he just doesnt act the part, if you watch the film eric is more quite and manly, like the strong silent type. :/

  • Well... I love this Eric! He came to my dance college & taught us dances from Hairspray & Fosse. Not to mention the Under The Sea number from this. He is sooo talented!

  • no offence but its rubbish!!!!

  • WHAT IS THIS MADNESS.

SEBASTIAN SHOULD BE A REAL CRAB.

Not a man in red, wtf

  • @Jklsays101 I hope you realize that crabs can't sing. They have a really hard time putting on the mic, and being seen on stage anyway.

  • I prefer the Broadway version to this song than the original, I feel like it shows off Sebastians voice so much better

  • Ariel, her name is Areil.. XD god bless it thats funny

  • Please, don't argue with the trolls. That means they win. :)

  • The Prince seems gay

  • @MissCeo3000 lol I was thinking the same thing hahaa

  • Great, now I've got to go searching for CTUAlmeida's comment

  • this is crazy. getng shocked because of this mans skin color we dont know that hes african american we dont know if hes american move on.

  • I love how people are so immature that they're commenting on how the guy who plays Eric is black, rather than talk about the wonderful memories of the movie and how cool it look s on stage.

  • Saying that the guy who plays Eric should be white is like saying the person playing Sebastian should be a real crab. Come on, people. Look at Les Miserables; they've had a white, Asian, and now a black woman playing Eponine! It's all about talent, not skin color. If the casting directors chose actors on the basis of skin color, the broadway business would have a lot of lawsuits to deal with.

  • The black guy as Eric is fine, fellas. He does seem to be playing it a little child-like, though. I don't know, he just seems to have given Eric a super light-hearted personality.

  • no me gusta como actúa ariel

  • oh goodness, all of these comments just because of a skin color... i love the fact that they got a black person to play eric because, well to put it out there, ariel lives in the ocean.... in case you hadn't noticed the ocean is a BIG place... who says this couldn't happen in africa, or the caribbean, or southeast asia, or australia, or anyplace else! i love this show because it is left up to the audiences imagination. that is where the true talent of the theatre and actors comes into affect. :)

  • Some people are too picky? Will it end the world if eric is black, no. So just grow up, He's black,yeah..but might be a fantastic actor. Better than any of you put together. So just, cut it with the racist comments,Yeah?

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs in the movie and this looks like a complete train wreck. what a disaster.

  • I like the black guy waay better!:)

  • @LilMissFeisty95 I know! He doesn't look the part but honestly, he was AWESOME! All I saw was his acting talent and his cuteness when finding out her name~

  • Eric is black -_- I know that everyone is going to think i'm racist, but i'm not. Eric is just a white character. It's just weird to see him played by a black actor. I wouldn't want to see a white actor playing Simba or Nala in Lion King. Idk, just weird. Same way I wouldn't want to see Sabastian being played by a white actor.

You can't say "Sebastian is black, why can't Eric be black?". Because Sebastian was ALWAYS BLACK! Eric was NEVER black. Eric is not a black character. I'm not racist :|

  • @alxalxfrv Yeah, I mean many say it's about talent. But the who ever played Eric. Is a bit annoying and really can't match Eric's personallaty.

  • i think all of the other people dancing around are just a bit distracting

  • does anyone know the actors name in this?

  • @bonesof The actress playing Ariel is Sierra Boggess, Sebastain is played by Titus Burgess, Scuttle is played by Eddie Korbich and Arbender Robinson is understudying the role of Eric.

  • i love the guy that play sebastian. such a beautiful voice :DD

  • i dont understand why people are upset about the actors I thought they were all great esp sebastian

  • Eric and Sebastian are so funny! I like them! :))

  • lolz....Eric is so awkward hahaha

  • I really like this Prince Eric... He's so good in the dialogue in this song :)

  • Ok, show me, show me proof that Eric HAS to be White! Show me proof! Ha!Mr.Disney would be ashamed the way we were behaving, arguing if people should be black or white, he would be ashamed. So you people who have ethicness problems, show me PROOF IN THE DISNEY HANDBOOK THAT THE BROADWAY MOVIE PEOPLE HAS TO BE THE SAME COLOR AS BROADWAY ONES!

  • @Emimi33able Your such an idiot. This isnt an argument about racism dumbazz so get that through your head! Your most likely a 13 year old girl by the way you sound. Bringing Obama into this just proves your stupidity and your ignorance.

  • Sebastian's BLACK!? he's supposed to be red ; ;

    MY CHILDHOOD!!!

  • @lawrencealcantara620 well, stupid, if you remember from the movie sebastian had an african american accent.

  • @BKupchuck57 In the episode "Tail of Two Crabs", Sebastian has a rivalry with another crab named Zeus, and they both try to one-up the other. According to dialogue in this episode, Sebastian was born in Jamaica and went to Music Academy in Trinidad prior to joining King Triton's staff as his assistant; in "Eel-Ectric City" he also reveals he had the stage name "Dizzy Crustace" (krust-AY-she).

So I'm pretty sure he's Jamaican.

  • @lawrencealcantara620 uh, huh, okay. and... have you ever actually SEEN a red jamaican?

  • @BKupchuck57 And have you seen a red uncooked crab? Or a Jamaican speaking crab? Besides, the Red bit was obviously a joke from the exaggerated expression, I apologize if the joke was not so obvious.

  • @BKupchuck57 Uh no it was not african american accent, it was I belive Jamacan. (I search it up and they all say it was jamacan. Even on the back of the movie it said he had a jamcan accent. He is also a crabian crab they state. (disney states) Also don't go around callin ppl stuipid. If u can't get your facts strait. Look it up.

  • I don't care what color the people in the shows are because they are always good anyway. The fact that they are there says a lot about their talent.

  • In the lion King movie Simba was voiced by white actors yet in the play he's played by black actors. Adult Nala was voiced by a white actress too but she's played a black actress on stage. Are you people bitching that Eric being black isn't true to the movie gonna say the Lion King musical isn't true to the movie as well? He was an Understudy! (and actually very talented) And where does it say Eric has be white?

  • guys if you actually listen to sebastian in the movie, you can tell that he's black. on the other hand, eric... not so much

  • @jamerikan5689

    OH WHATEVER

  • @jamerikan5689

    OH WHATEVER

  • do you have one step closer?

  • You know, I don't care how "racist" you "think" this sounds - Erik supposed to be white. Let it be. Move on. LMAO!

  • Yeah it does matter if he's black or not. That would be like mulan being a black girl or Tiana being a white girl! KEEP THEM THEIR FRICKING ETHNICITIES! I'm not racist I'm just sick of all the PC CRAP!

  • Alright, for the 20th time! He was the understudy. He was just filling in because Sean Palmer either had the day off or wasn't feeling well. Sean Palmer is white with black hair. So don't say Disney didn't have any respect for the movie. And if this video is bothering you guys so much. Feel free to watch a video with Sean as Eric. It's that simple.

  • Sebastian is really trying his best getting Eric to kiss Ariel. The way he is hinting: "Ariel ... Ariel" :-) XD

  • Okay, people... Listen up. Nowherein the "Disney Handbook" Does it say that any one character is supposed to be any one color. This is all nonsense. I thought the whole issue with color ended, oh, 50 years ago.....How can anyone say he;s not fit for the role? Last tme I checked, Ariel was supposed to be 16? Who's to say he doesn't assume, like I did, that they were around the same age? What guy is really all that smooth when they're 16? Goodness people, leave it be.

  • @TuggersTeazer lol you can tell yourself whatever you want but characters in the musicals are supposed to be portrayed as the same ethnicity as they were in the movie. Having a black Prince Eric is like having Mulan not be asian. Its not being racist, its just being true to the movie.

  • @CTUAlmeida7 Please tell me where you come up with this logic...are you saying that if the black guy had more talent and stage presence and delivered the role better than the white guy, then the black guy should be booted simply because he doesn't look the part? Ethnicity has nothing to do with it. Talent and Ability. I don't know why that escapes you people. Open your eyes. Welcome to the 21st Century.

  • @TuggersTeazer you sound like a complete idiot. your gonna tell me that if they ever did a Mulan broadway show and a blonde haired American girl was "more talented" than an Asian girl, she'd get the part? Bull crap. If the character is freakin white in the movie, they should be white in the broadway show. Stop acting ignorant and grow the hell up. its not being racist. If Eric was black in the movie, he should be black in the broadway. Same goes for him being white.

  • @CTUAlmeida7 You're the one who needs to grow up. Nobody said anything about racism. Try reading my comments. I'm Mexican/Japanese and I just finished a production of Aladdin as Jasmine. Our Genie was black, our Jafar was blonde and very camp, and we beat out Shenanarts' professional production in sellout performances. All I'm saying is that it's not set in stone what ethnicity the cast members are. If it were, The Disney Corporation would enforce it, don't you think? Quit being a child.

  • @TuggersTeazer stfu, im not acting like a child at all. All im saying is that its a broadway version of the Disney movie. Staying true to the movie is having characters look the same way or at least come close. Not changing them around to look completely different.

  • @CTUAlmeida7 Staying true to the Disney Movie is making the audience feel the same way they did when they see the movie. That's why the plays are so loved. And because you're taking the actor's appearances so seriously is Just proof of your childishness. And the ones who actually brought the characters to life, Like the blonde woman who did the speaking voice for Jasmine, or the White woman who voiced Pocahontas, or hey, any woman who's played Peter Pan, are all holes in your little theory.

  • @TuggersTeazer the woman who played peter pan did the part brilliantly because she made the character feel the same. Never saw blonde Jasmie or white Pocahontas so I have no comment on that but watching this Prince Eric, in no way do I feel that this should be Eric.

  • @CTUAlmeida7 In the disney movie Aladding, Linda Larkin voiced Jasmine. She's blonde. And in Pocahontas, Judy Kuhn Voiced Pocahontas, a white woman.

  • @TuggersTeazer It doesnt matter who voices them, i feel they should be represented on stage the same way they are in the disney movie. the girl who played peter pan really made the character feel the same way despite the fact that it was a female. But this prince eric doesnt make me feel the same towards the character. changing the entire ethnicity from white to black makes it feel different. I understand that this prince eric was just a backup for the real one but still

  • @CTUAlmeida7

Well, sorry, we can't all be white, All the best Youtubers are asian i think so, HA!

    And what about Obama huh?

Grow up, your depending the movies too much on the Broadway shows, thats why they make broadway shows dummy, because they wanna represent the story all over again in a musical and unique way, so shut up

  • @Emimi33able shut the hell up! obama? wtf does this have to do with obama? This has to do with Disney musicals based on Disney movies you moron. Tell me how in any way Obama is related to this discussion?

  • @TuggersTeazer I so agee with your posts

  • i thought drew seeley was prince eric

  • @Dancergirl9084 He came in to play Eric during the summer of 2009. This video was shot during the summer of 2008. This is Arbender Robinson. He was one of the understudies. Sean Palmer is the one who orginated the role on Broadway.

  • i kinda like Eric black....hes got more excitement actually :)

  • nevermind the fact that he's black, he sounds like a wuss!!!

they couldn't find someone with a more manly voice?!

  • M. A. G. I. C.

  • why understudy???

  • Is that Rogelio singing?

  • People arent being racist, they were just wondering because i dont think youve notcied, but in almost every little mermaid movie, eric is white. and some people have commented they like. dont have a cow.

  • Ummm have you bastards seen the movie....Eric looks pretty dark in it...He could of been black. Dumb asses!!

  • The harmony..gives me chills...that's so amazing.

  • I wanted to see how this was staged--thanks for uploading!

  • Personally, I feel that Eric's role as a prince is not tied to race, so I have no problem with an African-American Eric. However, I do understand the reaction; if Toy Story 3 had released with a black Buzz Lightyear, I'd be pretty surprised. In response to the Rosa Parks question, since race is an integral part of the context of Rosa Parks' action, I do feel an African-American Rosa Parks would be necessary. In this Little Mermaid scenario, however, since I do not personally believe race is tie

  • @cmikeh2 thats BS and u know it, if u would be surprsied to see a black buzz lighter year then u would be surprised to see a black eric, like i said eric in the little mermaid is not blakc, he is white, just like in the movie the princes and the frog the characters are black , i mean the main charcter the princess, its bull when u say its not tied because it is, if people didnt care about race, then \ the movie the princess and the forg should had tina being white.

  • @cmikeh2 if race didnt matter to u, mis or mr cmikeh2, or people like you u try way to much over the top to be miiss race doenst matter to me, then u and people like u should not make a big deal when disney brings out a princess who is asian like mulan, or black like tinana, or jasmine etc.. if u didnt care about race and did not see color, then people like u should not ever have had complain about how disney is mostly fair skin charcters.

  • @cmikeh2 and when a new movie with a diff race comes out, u should not be excited because acording to u race isnt tie to disney charcters. so i say BULL to ur comment, and i made my point way better then urs, so just admit that ur worng and u can go back to doing whatever u do, like i said b4, just cause peoeple know eric to be white is not racist, if anything a lot of black people or people like u who say they arent rascist and try way too much to not be rasict end up being racsist.

  • @cmikeh2 like i said with the disney movie the princess and the frog, if they made a broadway play of it then u and all the so called non rascist people should ahve no problem if they changed the princess on braodway to being an asian woman or a white woman. chek and mate, point made, so am done here. my comments ahve mor elogiocal sense then urs about how its not tied. bye

  • @zeroastrosky No, because the race of the characters is something that defines the characters of Tiana and Prince Naveen. This whole production used colorblind casting because in the universe of this play, race isn't important. It wouldn't make any sense if Tiana or Naveen were white. Jasmine has to be of Middle Eastern descent, Pocahontas has to be Native American and Mulan has to be chinese. Not racist, it's fact.

Also, learn how to write a sentence. Grammar is important.

  • a black eric? i guess there IS a first for everything

  • HE'S TALANTED. WHYY THEE FUCKK DOES ITT MATTER!

  • @sunshinelizz8 are u a teacher?? did u study acting to know when someone is talented or not?? or are u saying it only because hes black and ur getting all defensive. i am also not a teacher he might be good for a diff role but he does not play the eric charcter well at all.

if u did not read my last 3 comments on the video, read them.

the poeple here are not say he cant be in the show cause hes black, they are saying that the charcter from disney, eric is not black, he is white

  • @sunshinelizz8 if someone made a movie about oprah or a movie of Rosa Parks, and they got an asian woman or a latina or white woman to play rosa parks in the movie, would u be saying hey WTF does it matter if an asian actor is playing rosa parks or oprah??? wpuld u be saying that it doenst matter????????/ i will look fowrad to redaing your answer to my question

  • @zeroastrosky does itt say inn thee script thatt hee has too bee white, NOOO IT DOESNT. now oprah & rosa parks are african american soo itt does matter their skin color. but inn a BROADWAY FUKKING MUSICAL, itt doesnt matter. itt may inn alot of other shows, butt itt never says that eric HAS TO BE a white man, does itt? NO, BITCH. itt fukking doesnt. soo shut the fukk upp.

  • @zeroastrosky In the movie, Simba ws played by Johnathan Taylor Thomas (Cub) and Matthew Broderick (Adult)..... who, last time I checked, were both white. Color doesn't matter. Broadway concentrates on talent. So if a black guy can sing it better than a white guy, guess who gets the part?

  • @TuggersTeazer I just wrote a simillar post about the The lion king and I agree with you 100%

  • @TuggersTeazer As far as the Lion King goes it doesn't matter who played the voices of the characters when it comes to actually having the actors in a situation where there race would be noticed then the African lions should be played by black Africans since blacks are the original Africans. There likely would have been an uproar if Simba and Mufasa were played by a race other than black on Broadway.

  • Anyone here who says that the it doesn’t matter: i wonder if you would be upset if someone made a movie or play about oprah winfrey, and a white woman played or portrayed oprah instead of an African actress. So yes it matters a lot. But just because it matters doesn’t make anyone who thinks so, a racist, they are not hating black people all they are saying is that Eric isn’t black he’s a white character.

  • 1st off, l any of u who say it doesn’t matter are wrong, yes it does matter that the guy is black, because this is a Disney version of the movie, the original character is not black, just like the princess and the frog, the characters are black not white, so if a white girl played princess tiana, people would not like it much. Because they know her as an African princess, so yes it matters.

  • @zeroastrosky Yea yea yea yea!!!

  • I hope they make a movie about oprah with a white actress totally white skin playing oprah,. I wonder how many black people will get upset that a white actress is playing oprah, let’s see if anyone who says it doesn’t matter will say the same thing when a white women plays oprah instead of a African woman

  • GUYS. It doesn't matter what his skin colour is!

  • Theyre gonna redo the musical for the european stage, focusing more on an adult audience. The new version is gonna focus more on the relationship between ariel and her father and the mutual love between ariel and Eric. Alan Menken is even writing two new songs for it!

Gotta love Stage Entertainment for revamping the Little Mermaid. It was good, but it couldve been great. Now it might be, just like they did with Tarzan!

  • While I love kiss the girl, I very much prefer the movie and Sebastian's deep voice from the movie...

  • God people, SHUT UP!!!!!! Yes, the guys black, there are people in this world who don't have pale white skin! Hate to break it to you. AND LOOK! SEBASTIAN IS BLACK TOO!!!!!!!! Shut up and watch this alright, it's fantastic.

  • @ritsfata THANK YOU

  • @ritsfata HEAR HEAR!!!

  • @ritsfata ikr?? it doesnt matter :D

  • @ritsfata I agree with you.

  • @ritsfata I don't think the issue is the guys skin color, but if Eric's white in the movie he SHOULD be white in the Broadway adaptation of the film, especially if it is from the same company. How would you like to see the Pocahontas broadway show with, say, Nicole Kidman? Kinda weird isn't it? Sebastian is ok being black since he's sort of cuban in the movie.

  • @ritsfata sebastian being portrayed by a black person is fine. eric was portrayed in the movie as a white man therefore he should be white in the musical. end of story

  • @ritsfata to be fair, the bloke who done sebastians voice in the film was black right? with a voice that soulful bruvva he has to be lol

  • ERIC, is black!..i fell in love with the black ERIC!?!

  • I don't care that he's black, I care that the singing sucks...

  • Hahahahahahahahaha! Ohhh... ohhhh.. I just can't... I just can't... *wipes tear* Hahahahahahahaha!

  • Haha well i know all the other comments are about how he is black! Even if he's an understufy it's pretty cool that they didn't really care what ethnicity he is!

  • Who cares that he is black? the frogs aren't actually real frogs... is all hell gonna break loose now? yes we might have grown up with eric being white but i think we will be okay if eric is black on broadway...

  • This is my favorite song... Hands down.. I love the actors picked for this show, they're amazing <3

  • @ABC123LOLZZZ Those remarks are completley uncalled for! You should be ashamed of yourself!

  • @Silver54ful Im sorry 4 upseting u and stuff but this is lyk wrong. They hurt my little mermaid and now she will never be the same ever ever again. I feel lyk crawling up in2 a little ball in a corner of my room and say 2 myself "theres no place lyk home" over and over agin. I wanna cry :(

  • 1 character- many voices of other person, i think that's why there are different characters there

  • I don't care for Prince Tyrone. At all.

  • I don't like the addition of the chorus. It should have some stuff from the lake, but you need to hear Sebastian more than anyone. I think this versions just a bit too busy. Pretty good though. The guy who plays Sebastian does a good job making it his own without completely changing the part.

  • Eric: so how about this weather

sebastian: this is going nowhere fast

    that was funny

  • I love the acabella feel that Kiss the Girl has in the Broadway version!

  • he sounds like michal jackson.......

  • Tittus Buerges might be god.

  • So What if Eric is Black??? Who Really CARES?? In My play Cinderella is Asian and The Prince Is Black. Who really cares? Does it REALLY matter?

  • @sydneyandsami9500 i get your point and i thought the same thing, but the first thing that cross my mind was... "the prince is black... interesting"

  • @crstfrdrnt thts wat i thought hahaha oh well hes good tho haha

  • @sydneyandsami9500 No.

    But yes.

  • @sydneyandsami9500 They were just making a statement because they were surpirsed. You don't have to get defensive.

  • @sydneyandsami9500 So much ignorance in the world! SMH!

  • @sydneyandsami9500 THANK YOU! Talet is really all that matters. I wish people would get that through their heads, it would make life so much happier and bring people closer together. :)

  • @sydneyandsami9500 It does because It is Disney´s Little Mermaid, You should see the magic of the movie, In sebastian is not important because is not a human character, so you can show him in any kind of guy, to have a black erick is like having a blond ariel, is just not the character.

It´s not about discrimination, It´s about respect the characters, as I said before you can´t have a blond ariel, neither a blond tiana.

  • I LOVE how this musical isn't type cast. :3

  • eric is black? what?...

  • @EnchantedMind0 if u look at other comments.... hes an understudy..

  • Broadway is fantastic!

  • I don't care what color his skin is. I thought Arbender did a wonderful portrayal of Prince Eric! And for the record, Toni Braxton played Belle on Broadway. Nobody complained then about inaccurate it was. So why does it matter if this actor understudied the role or if the ensamble was diverse? I also loved Titus Burgess's rendition of this song. He's an incredible Sebastian.

  • @Silver54ful i agree :)

  • I'm not racist. I'm factual. That man is black.. this is an error. =|

  • @TeddyNutsChannel

Lol. Seriously I must contend to agree. Stick to the script right. He was a white male in the original thus should be in any rendition whether it be on broadway or in ink. It's like taking "Snow "White" and using an African/VChinese/Russian speaking female as the lead cast. It's got nothing to do with color or race...it's just the simple question of "WHY?"

  • Right? I mean serious, what is the point? Sebastian was a black cast character in the animated film, so respectably one would expect the same in a broadway musical. But to cast a black man as the "Prince" is just fruitless. It's like casting the role of "Carl Lee Hayley" in "A Time to Kill" as a White/Chinese-Non-English speaking male for his part. I mean seriously it's a fruitless task. Why change what was originally a flawless film into a specticle that will no doubt inevitablbly turn heads?

  • @brunohale You appearently haven't seen the entire video. When it came time for the Curtain Call, Arbender recieved a standing ovation and enormous applause. It didn't matter what the color of skin was, the audience thought he was a wonderful actor as Prince Eric. And for the second time, he wasn't the principle actor in the role. He was the understudy. The lead actor was on vacation the week this was filmed. Who by the way is caucasian with black hair. So don't say they were inaccurate.

  • erik's a black guy! when did this happen? oh, well i like it!

  • @heyheymister he was an understudy

  • @TLMBroadway93 cool!

  • THis is prince Eric? Wit is this the same play Where uhh.. The Girl Ariel.. nevermind. To be frank. I dont remember him looking like that.

btw the guy playing sebastian is SOOO GOOD. HES JUST AMAZING.

  • josh strickland would be a perfect eric

  • Wow but who played the prince eric in this sketch and you can post more with him please

  • This song has always been my favorite Disney love theme.

    Thank you for sharing this.

  • love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
