Good song... however... it took me a bit to figure out what it sounded like. It sounds like 867-5309/Jenny by Tommy Tutone.. LOL. Still good though :)
This reminds me of Simon and Garfunkles Kodachrome song. Because they both have camera themes. And because Paul Simon is sleeping on my couch right now. I am gonna let him sleep it off, but its time we had a talk about living within his limits. I think its great that he has pushed himself to learn the trapeze, but he is pushing himself to hard. A body can only handle so much. Wish me luck, Paul can be quite a handful when confronted with these things. For a while he was into baking obsessively.
I actually like this a lot. An interesting sound and what I can understand/hear of the lyrics (due to the fuzzy audio) is very fun, light and interesting... refreshing and probably heading places... keep it up bandmembers. Keep on keeping on with these seeds of greatness.
This why there are no more rock stars and rock music is in the trash can. John Belushi would of broke his guitar in pieces and handed it back to him Animal House style. Get laid!
I like it. it took me a bit to make the connection between MUTUAL APPRECIATION and the lead singer, and now that I remember where I've seen Justin Rice, I'm even more excited to know he's a legitimate musician. Bishop Allen is a good band.
i like it there way more talented then all the mainstream rock and hiphop groups cause they do there own thing they dont copy everyone else like most popular musicians do.
im a indie fanatic! but i respect all music but none of you people respect music u know nothing about music just dont listin to it if you dont like it
I have to mute this shit every time I check back to see if some ball bag responded to my subversive comments. The cute chick playing the obsolete percussion is like, OMG, like so indie.
xylophone player, check. lame singer playing an acoustic guitar, check. bedhead, check. wearing "I don't care how I look" clothes which are actually carefully selected for maximum indie cred, check. :sensitive" singin, check. yep, this crappy band has all the hallmarks of a lame-ass indie group.
At any rate they do have some good music. I realize your point that there are some 'scene' bands, and I don't know much about Bishop Allen, but don't discredit the genre. I would prefer listening to a 'lame-ass indie group' then some modern Disney shit, or another soulless mainstream band. Find whatever sound you like, but don't go out of your way to hate on someone else's music.
oh, shut up, twat. first of all, who gives a shit if it's a xylophone, bells, or a marimba- you got the point. "waaaahhh, I need to split hairs!" second, I'm not discrediting *any* genre. what you DON'T know is that there's a billion bands considered indie that I love. it so happens this particular one blows and is about as paint-by-numbers as they come. "find what you like and dont hate on someone else" says the guy who's probably left a million bad comments on videos HE didn't like. fuck off.
I like some indie. But indie artists were originally a reaction against the corporate agenda of big labels and their overplaying radio saturation This song could sell a lot of , um, cameras. Look for it an annoyingly catchy tv ad near you. Dollars over art= safe predictable rock.
The song is catchy, but I also feel like I'm supposed to like it, which makes me not like it. Wish them the best though.
The label must be trolling comments because they removed comment suggesting that you just type in "Jenny (867-5309)" to hear the song this "band" ripped off. Because it sucks way less than this. Bishop Boy Lover just sucks. Thanks for coming out and keepin' scene alive...NOT.
I have to mute this shit every time I check back to see if some ball bag responded to my subversive comments. The cute chick playing the obsolete percussion is like, OMG, like so indie.
The chorus sounds a lot like "Jenny (867-5309)" made famous by Tommy Tutone in the 80's. Not as bad as what Vanilla Ice did to Queen stealing "Under Pressure" but still pretty shitty. More like Bishop Mc Ice Ice Baby.
This song sounds like it could have been a late eighties novelty hit , or the dated B side no one knew you liked. The chord progression is so overplayed these days. The thrill seems to be that they might not even pull it off live, so you feel the heart in the performance working to hold it together, Catchy, but not even the threat of an edge, or relevancy. The bridge is a welcome change from 2:30 of same vibe. Catchy, but choking on the escapist indie pop. Labels like safe corporate ideas.
SXSW- once a festival where one could see unknown, underground bands struggling to get to the top. once a festival where a totally unknown band could send in a submission and, if they were good, maybe get a spot. NOW a festival that caters to already signed or already known/popular bands. fuck SXSW. it might as well be bonaroo,
Hey this is what happens when the mainstream music industry starts poking it's nose into everything looking to scrape together dwindling profits to stave off the inevitable
Let society strike it dead, the music industry needs to change
The lead singer (Justin Rice) played in an independent film called "Mutual Appreciation" (currently showing on Sundance Channel), in one of the most irritating performances of all time. He comes off as the kind of asshole that you'd walk across the street just to punch in the face and knock out cold. The other one was in a film by the same director called "Funny Ha Ha", which was much better than "Mutual", mainly in that Justin Rice's baboonish leer was nowhere to be found in it.
overall, this SXSW is not that impressive. most of these bands dont know how to engage an audience, or sing in a general, public address tone, its self-involved, masturbatory, boring easily made dance beats, predictable melodies, lyrics etc.
i dont hear much good songwriting either. lazy indie rock, half-hearted, kinda told ya, kinda feel etc.
this band's ok though. singers got courage at least. need that insane courage though
