  • She definitely has a right to speak her mind and say how she feels, and I think she did it firmly and respectfully. But at the same time, when she expressed that she didn't want to sign anything, the guys doing the video and talking to her should have said "OK, sorry to bother you; thank you for your time", and walked away. Instead, they kept talking to her and pressing her for other answers. That, to me, is rude. There's other people that would probably have socked them in the face....

  • I can't believe the nastiness of some comments here. She does not HAVE to sign for people. I got her autograph, both times at a stage door, and she was so nice. BUT I was polite, and if she said no, I would have respected her.But if you go up to her when she is eating in a restaurant, in the shop with her child, walking in the park, it seems so rude. She is a good woman, stop knocking her. If you want her to sign 20 items, why don't you just ask her for some cash, because you were going to sell !

  • Is she wearing socks with sandels?

  • ;)

  • to me,it's amazing she would spend her time trying to explain why she just wants to be left alone.i don't deify any human but when they get public recognition there are people who do.i guess its part of being a human.i don't understand it.

  • Pwn3d by Chrissie !!!

  • I watched this years ago and I still agree with her.

Fans can be the biggest divas, sometimes.

  • ... especially when they're only posing as fans to try and make a few bucks off of you, on e-bay.

  • I think I can offer a bit of insight into Chrissie's notoriously hostile personality...

She's disgusted. In general, I mean... she's just disgusted.

And I don't blame her. Take a look around.

  • i agree chrissy, celeb worship is bullshit.

  • Don't fuck with Chrissy. She'll rip you apart with her intellect.

  • What a washed up hag.

  • @rhikdavis Are you serious? Have you seen her work? Washed up hag indeed...what are you........??

  • @rhikdavis aka Independent Woman.

  • @rhikdavis what credentials do you offer up to make this kind of a statement?

  • maybe if he had a TELE pickplate. chrissie is cool,i would have bashed his head in

  • @devildog3406 Except that I don't think Chrissie "wants to be famous." I'm sure she'd rather be successful and be able to support herself with her music, but not in the same way a Miley Cyrus does. Chrissie is a performing artist and doesn't owe us anything beyond the respect we owe her (or anyone else.) She gives us her very soul when she performs - what more do you want? She is an artist, not a celebrity.

  • Chrissie trying to change the world... She treated this guy with nothing but respect. Good on her.

  • I think people that require autographs are ridiculous and only seek to make a profit. Chrissie's career is late stage, but she was always like this which is admirable. we live in a nation of kiss ass celebrities that probably vent like this only after the fan has retreated. Kiss ass celebrities are too scared to speak their mind so they save face and check book...Chrissie is the real deal..still at 59!

  • Just makes me love Chrissie all the more.

  • QUESTION ---- when did Chrissie become such a nasty cunt ??

  • God, she sounds like my grandma,

  • you post a video with an ad in it saying 'come to my ebay store and buy my crap - i hate that this video was posted because it is the antithesis of what she's saying - what is it about what she said that you can't comprehend - she was pretty clear

  • I have the utmost respect for her now....I hate those publicity-seeking celebrities...She is not unique, she's just like everyone else! Charlie S. take note of how to behave.

  • Long live Chrissie Hynde

  • She rocks!

  • oh fuck her..........your pussy stinks cunt I wish it all could be taken away....

then watch her cry bitch it goes with the territory should have been a trailer trash pregnent barefoot hick from OHIO. and she STILL has rotten teeth

  • @fasteddie925 wow

  • I agree with her. I thought she was firm and not mean or disrespectful. Especially if the person only wants to sell the autograph for money.

  • @perfectbeat charlton heston would only sign 2 autographs because he knew a lot of autograph seekers were dealers

  • I can't believe how many morons cannot see that THESE GUYS ARE NOT FANS. If they get the autographs, they'll run straight home and have them posted for sale on Ebay before the front door even closes behind them.

  • I like it when the guy says to her "Thanks Britney". I can't believe Chrissie didn't respond to that.

  • That was the coolest thing is ever! Just as good as any song.

  • There was a story about Jimi Hendrix being hounded for an autograph by a guy at a jam session, after 5 minutes Jimi said OK whatever and signed his card "Fuck You! Jimi....."

  • OH yes your right because they never had handicapped people in those days.

what the hell was I thinking, was it the 70s they turned up????

  • ..And i suppose they didn't have handicapped people either in those days

  • A guy drove up to Joe Dimagio with a bus full of handicapped children that went to see him play that night Joe asked why are their faces so sad. The driver replied they saved up all their money for weeks Joe' to come and see you but you played a terrible game tonight.

  • @MrLayford65 are you makeing this up or what did they even have handicapped buses then its not joes fault if his team didnt win

  • WHAT VALUES.. SHE TRIED TO SET UP AND MARRY A SEX PISTOL TO GET A BRITISH CITIZENSHIP BUT FAILED. THEN SHE MARRIED RAY DAVIS BRITISH HAD A CHILD, THEN JIM KERR SCOTTISH HAD A CHILD SHE HAS BEEN CHASING SIGNATURES AND MAKING MONEY OUT OF THEM FOR YEARS AND GOT HER BRITISH CITIZENSHIP TWO FOLD ON THE WAY. WE ALL USE SOMEBODY DONT WE CHRISSIE.

  • Stick to your values, Chryssie. You did good.

  • Chrissy should find another job like cleaning toilets or making tacos. She doesnt know how lucky she is.

  • Chrissy, just sign the f##king thing and stop the song and dance over it. You took over 2 minutes to explain and an autogrpah takes only 2 seconds !

  • chrissie hynde is the greatest woman that ever lived.

  • @mitchgunthorpe your right she is that talented that beautiful that great CHRISSIE THE GREAT

  • Chrissie Hynde got into music because she loves it. A musician creates music. A celebrity doesn't create anything except an image.

Chrissie is a human being. She doesn't want celebrity. She needs & protects her privacy. Why not? It's hers!

Chrissie expects people to treat her as a normal person. When they don't, she reacts in an honest way. Her reaction shows how bad invasion of privacy makes her feel!

Don't be assholes. Treat people with the dignity.

  • I have met her twice, in Sept 1999, and in April 2003, and she was lovely on both occasions........... signing away and I had a photo taken with her on the second time. I had tickets to both shows, but many were pushing and shoving for autographs with no intention of going to the shows. She got a bit iffy when one guy stuck 20 LPs under her nose, and she said ""Let me sign two or three of them, OK ?" Fair enough I thought, and he got stroppy with her. No, I am on Chrissies side here.

  • @seasidecharles yea I agree If i ran into chrissie some place I think id want more than an autograph when that girl from touched by an angel roma downey was in a book store she looked good enough to carry off she had a bodygaurd whats with that guy with a pickgaurd he hangs around in airports with a pick gaurd in case a rock star shows up I could have gutars signed by les paul I knew him but i didnt want to exploit the guy .

  • If you don't want people asking for your autograph or any other type of attention from fans then DON'T BECOME AN ENTERTAINER! That's all this bitch is. An entertainer. Nothing more. Nothing less........

  • On her period or what...

no she has always been a massive COW

some one smack that Bitch up.

she wouldn't talk to an animal like that

No because she respects them more than humans.

  • She is an obnoxious cunt .if it weren't for people buying her cat-screaming voice she would be a clerk in a dollar store, HEY DUMB BITCH, if you don't want people to be fans don't be a performing musician. play in your living so people don't know you. I wouldn't piss in her face if her head was on fire!!

  • is she pissed because a fan wanted an autograph, or were they just being overbearing, expecting her to do a song and dance on the spot and then come home and meet their family? couldn't tell. I think if you're famous and you walk out in public you should expect to sign the obligatory autograph and be prepared to give a quick minute of your time. otherwise, take a limo tomaintain your privacy. Luv Chrissie tho. she can berate me anytime.

  • @RubHerSoul1 i think he wanted her to sign something she didnt want to sign like a football program she did sign the guitar pickgaurd

  • What she should realize is that the fans are the ones who give musicians the support for them to actually make a living doing what they love!! Gosh.... big deal that someone who S U P P O R TS your music wants a few moments of your time to sign something for them. How many people go to work everyday at a average job and nobody has a kind word to say, let alone want the average joe to sign something. Might not want to sign all the time but plenty of people WISH they had that "inconvience" issue

  • @MrZombieIsHungry A guy used to take joe dimagio out for diner joe said you buy me a diner for $30 then you get me to autograph a trunk full of sports memorabilia thats worth $4000 [meanwhile joe had to take care of a handicapped son]

  • @Voices Rocks 1 - MOVE ON Coleen W......Swish!

  • Comment removed

  • I think getting an autograph with the motive to make profit from is wrong.....so i would not sign anything for anyone. Before Ebay came along ,an autograph was a personal thing that was cherished by that fan.Now people have become so greedy & shallow in the past few years.

  • MOVE ON>...... CH

  • @VoicesRocks1 MOVE ON COLEEN W. SWISH!

  • Stupid Bitch.Dont buy her fuckin records!!They must realize that without the fuckin fans, they are nothing.

  • @88napolitano I agree.. MOVE ON>>>> CH

  • She should have kicked him in the family jewels.

  • An argument with your idol is just as good as an autograph!

  • Crissy the guy dosnt get it.

  • I don't mind the guy asking, but once she says no, that should be the end of it. He acts like he has a right to her time and her autograph, and it's his his attitude of entitlement she seems to object to most. Good for her.

  • Bright Lady !

  • She's being decent. Sorry but each time I watch this, my feelings about it do not change.

  • OK. I love her more now.

  • well done chrissie and i fully agree with her

  • She is the best, and her live shows are better than ever if you ask me.

Class, beauty, intelligence, and that Voice!

And yes I would leave her alone, absolutely.

  • She was still pleasant while voicing her opinion and spent time with this "fan" in the long run...this is a great video!!!

  • You can get arrested at Fort Lauderdale airport for telling a joke. The sign says so, and it's true....

    I miss America.

  • i stood next to chrissie hynde once at a GAP demonstration, and I said nothing to her. she is a musician, an activist and an ordinary human trying to make a difference. she keeps a distance from the public, apart from being on stage where she clearly enjoys herself. i think she is an amazingly direct and honest individual that leaves people uncomfortable because she lays it out for them. she is an inspiration. the current crop of celebrity is desperate and needs constant validation. yuk!

  • @mapple432 Perfectly said! I used to be a bit more star-struck when I was younger. The only thing I like to say to someone (that is if they have touched me in some way---author, actor, musician) is that I appreciate their work but I say it as they are passing by and if they choose to chat then great!

  • She could have acted her sweetest, most subservient self and have a handler by her side, doing the dirty work. I honestly think she's placing him on the same human level as hers by explaining things, instead of going...

"Aaaw! Sweet! (*wink* Security! *wink* Get rid of it!)"

... as -in case you don't know- many other people would have done.

  • You know, it is one thing to wave and tell someone whose work you've enjoyed "Thank you!" But it's a whole other thing to ask them to do stuff for you - just as someone else said, sign stuff so you can sell it to make money. I think she was incredibly nice to that guy. Some people STILL aren't used to hearing a woman 'just tell it like it is' - like she's supposed to be really sweet and obliging to everyone. When a woman says "NO.", you must believe her, or suffer the wrath! lol

  • Why the long explanation, just tell him to fuck off and leave you alone, END OF STORY. Nonetheless, being in the limelight does have it's price.

  • Chrissie is too cool. I totally get what she's saying

  • Haha that guy is getting a Stratocaster pickguarde signed by a Telecaster player.

  • @TheMadMusicMan it should still make the guitar a collectable anyway but does that guy hang out in an airport with a pickgaurd waiting for a rock start to show up

  • the 1 thing she said that i disagree with is her not acknowledging that "the fans made them".yes and no but one would hope they'd acknowledge that the fans did *contribute* to their success (buying records, concert tix, etc). that by no means asks her to sign autographs 24/7 (or even 1), just to recognize that she has fans & that there are ppl, like me, who genuinely love her music, & that her music has made a difference in the lives of others (that's a good thing!)

  • These autograph guys all they want is to sell what they get autographed and make money

  • Good for her. She wasn't being rude, just firm. What she explained was worth more than signing a plastic pickguard so the guy could turn around and sell it. I'd love to see what she wrote across it.....

  • If I had asked for her autograph, and got this lengthy explanation of her view of celebrity, I would feel more honored that her personal integrities remain intact and she was considerate and generous enough to take the time to explain, making me love her even more.

  • it wasn't just that day.i work at CAK(akron/canton) airport where she travels through many times a year.she is very cold to everyone who speaks to her every day that i have seen her.she doesn't seem to understand the give and take of stardom.i know she does not have to give all her time to her fans but you would in her twilight years of fame she would have eased up a bit on the attitude.she not so "precious" any more i guess.

  • i was always a fan until i met her.what a miserable c#nt.she is not a nice person.

  • funny i've heard such mixed things about what she's like as a person... i mean i'm a fan of her music no matter what and that's what matters, but i'm sorry she wasn't nice (assuming you weren't being intrusive and disruptive like the guy in this video was)

  • that's awesome jadedingenue and str8wayward. also true fans of her's would respect her need for and right to privacy.

imho, autograph's are nice but given the chance i think it's much more meaningful to both parties when a singer/band/actor/whoever takes the time to stop to chat with a fan, even if only for a minute or two, than fans crowding around holding out cd covers or whatever for the person to just quickly sign their name on.

  • Chrissie handed me her guitar pick at the Fillmore in San Francisco, just for the asking. Thanks Chrissie. Concert was kick-ass!

  • She gave a harmonica to a guy at the most recent show in Chicago. Awesome woman she is.

  • Saw her at the Warwick, then again this year at House of Blues Houston. Amazing woman

  • I love Chrissie Hynde and the way she speaks her mind!

  • Oh, this takes me back to when I met her! ha. It's all in how you approach her. 1) After a show is the ONLY appropriate time. 2) be respectful and polite (as in smile, shake her hand, say "nice to meet you", etc.) This is how I acted and she was *very* sweet to me, even gave me a hug and spoke with me for a minute. Now the guys who were shoving records in her face without saying a word...different story.

  • I have collected many autographs from various celebrities for my own collection.First of all, look on EBAY how cheap autographs are selling for.Not worth the time and effort to try to get and then sell. I also believe that the entire autograph sensation started by someone wanting "proof" they met the person. Then it turned into wanting to own something that the celeb had touched. I guess its kind of odd really. However, I believe celebs should autograph if the person asked it to be personalized.

  • She wrote Rush Limbaugh's theme song! Hahahaha

  • Autograph selling dork.

  • Can you say "ASSHOLE"

  • Comment removed

  • why would anyone want her autograph?

  • I believe the question is:

WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT ANYONE'S AUTOGRAPH?

  • Jeez, leave her the hell alone...

  • this is why you just keep walking as you say you like their music as you pass by them...I'm sure they're tired of shaking 2000 hands aday and people drooling on them... but then thats the life of a rock star ....

  • shut up, Beazly, you faggot....Quit being a pretentious wanker--you dont know the frist thing about celebrities-you're just blowing smoke up these retards asses

  • just keep stalking me asshole.... its ok I'll have someone take care of you...your ip address is noted on googles servers....just keep adding more info for my case against you....

  • Sign it, bitch. If I see you in public, I won't ask for an autograph, I'll ask for the $15 back I spent to see you in Providence, RI (1984) when you were so wasted onstage you had to sit down and sing for most of the show. Good album, but the show was one of the worst I ever attended.

  • frankbagofdonuts,

My, my, but aren`t you just a precious one! ``Sign it, bitch.` I mean, really, does the fact that she was wasted at one concert, over 25 years ago, give you the right to be so abusive.

  • whoa, here you are LK; you took the words right outta my mouth. plus i LOVE the fact she doesn't have a British accent after 30+ yrs in the UK; compare/contrast to that slagheap, madonna, LOL.

  • i think she does have a small english accent whenever she said "Let's Get on out of here now!"

  • Go, Chrissie! Yeah....

  • Hello magoons41 -- You said it...Go Chrissie!!! I love Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders. I miss the 80's!! They were really at their peak then. Chrissie is right when she's telling this guy that he doesn't understand. She doesn't "belong" to the public no matter what some people may think. Also, her comment to him about being a single woman being approached by other men is very valid. There are plenty of crazy people in this world and you never know what someone's intentions are. --Kim

  • you know you have a point about her music

she did say music was her life and that was the reason she didnt stop the band when pete and jimmy died

  • This sort of 'celebrity belongs to the public' thing is a phenomenon of mass electronic media -- but then so is the potential for income. I can agree with her point and would be more comfortable if someone famous came by to have the people give him/her a round of applause at the most, then continue as normal. That way, perhaps they might be inclined to mix with us.

Unfortunately, there are also psychos out there who will do more than just approach someone famous if seen in a public place.

  • kvjhedfbv,

You wrote, " She made her fortune by gaining popularity through using the taxpayer's air waves FOR FREE!"

Do you know what an FM license cost ? Operating an FM-Radio station is NOT FREE !

I'm on Chrissie's side , here. These autograph-hounds will take her sign memorabilia, trhen sell it for hundreds, and where does that money go ? Into the hands of people who have never even HEARD of Chrissie Hynde ! Autograph-hounds SUCK ! I believe in signing for CHARITY !

  • Hynde did not pay the licensing fee for FM stations.

She autographed some things for other people in this video.

Hynde was voicing a complaint about how this guy approached her.

Then she launches off into a rant about hating her own fans and killing animals for food.

    Hynde is an idiot!

  • Go Chrissie!

You are paid to do job and you do it really well.

After hours? You are no performing monkey...

  • Hynde aka Liberal wacko, tries to impose her religious beliefs on her fans.

Hynde is a reflection of the London rock scene.

You only get ahead by giving head to Liberal activists.

  • Well Im with Chrissie here...seeing her perform is enough for me as a fan. It would be one thing if she was willingly signing autographs or something, but I wouldnt expect her to give me the time of day if I came across her in public. Why should she? Im a complete stranger to her. I just dont get that mentality.

  • i agree with salliesimpson. while i thought she was a little rough here it all goes along with her what-you-see-is-what you get way of being.

  • @SallieSimpson yea ,right theres millions of people that might recognize her but she doesnt know them, they want to be her best friend but she doesnt know them [there is another aspect to this autograph situation some of these autograph seekers are professional dealers that want to jack up the price so some "celebritys" dont sign at all some sign on a limited basis.

  • Comment removed

  • Every celebrity is an ordinary person...just with different levels of egotism. She comes across self righteous and rude. Her fans are paying her bills. Some people eat meat. Get over yourself.

  • Hey smrrigan, were you born an asshole, or did you work at it your whole life?

  • Arrgghhh..the more I hear her talk about not being a celebrity the more I have to laugh at the absurdity of it all..look at it this way--If you were an ordinary person just doing music as a hobby..would people be coming up to you asking you for autographs everyday lol..I mean..wtf..wanna talk about making yourself sound like an idiot-she does a great job..hi, ive sold millions of records some even went gold or platinum but Im just a hobby musician..really I am hahah

  • Approaching a complete stranger (yes, if you don't know a rock star personally, he/she is a stranger) and expecting to be given his/her time and resources is quite a presumptive concept.

Just because you heard her music or seen her in concert or read her interviews doesn't mean you know her. She has every right to say "fuck off" to any autograph seekers.

I respect Chissie, because her music is so honest and because she wants to live an ordinary life. She never let stardom go to her head.

  • meat eaters? Here parents eat meat. They have a BBQ grill on the back porch LOL.

  • The guy in the hat is a total asshole. Parasite.

  • hey it's better than coming out of a car spread eagle, drunk - craving attention like britney

  • ps I also had to laugh at her ' I do this as a hobby" ..if she was referring to her music, please..it reminds me of a stewart copeland comment he made to Jules Holland about "anybody can play drums" as he's playing some ridiculous time signature of a lick lol

  • I disagree with every comment here..whether she likes it or not-Chrissy is a public figure in the public eye since Pretenders..like it or not that's what a pop star signs up for when they get big..dont give me this crap about youre an ordinary person..youre not..your a star put on this planet to perform for your fans..get over it already at 50 whatever she is...she wastes more time arguing she is just common folk..shes not, period.

  • Her product is music that she sells.

Your theory that because her product can be heard for free on the radio gives you a right to any of her resources (time, ink scribbles) is purely fictitious.

She never signed a contract to become a "public figure", which is an implicit contract. What you are saying is that she is obliged to fulfill the demands of your implicit contract. Well, implicit contracts are not legally binding, no matter how much you may want to place it on her.

  • Oh please.Save me your jabberwock about implicit documents already.I personally could care less about Hynde..she can do what she wants.that's her right to do so..and although she never signed an implicit contract, she sure doesn' have a problem with collecting royalties [whether it be in love performances/cds etc] from fans' hard-working dollars now does she? Alot of big-time musicians want to lead ordinary lives but they still take the time to sign autographs for fans-give your public respect

  • live performances that is

  • Why am I even wasting my time? If you sign it's not implicit. Royalties are paid by radio stations and the like who use the product to sell advertising. Please, really, you're embarrassing yourself.

  • I'm embarrassing myself? Why are you wasting you're time? I don't give a flying rat turd about radio stations paying royalties and implicit signing of contracts etc..you're totally missing my point..musicians as accomplished as Hynde have no business not giving a fan the time of day even if it is an inconvenience..without the fans accomplished musicians are shit.and you have the nerve to imply that musicians have the right to tell fans to just f- off? You're just as arrogant as she is, christ

  • and to add to my own comment..this also applies to accomplished athletes and professional sports and actors..without fans..what's the point? You're playing or performing for noone but yourself at that point..if she wanted so bad to be an ordinary musician..then why try to make it big in the first place? just stay a basement, session, or houseband musician..even furyofbongos cant disagree with that logic lol

  • give here a break, she just wants to do her stuff and not be hassled by geeks, who needs autographs anyway? (geeks I suppose!)

  • I love Chrissie...she's an ordinary person! I read an article once where she said she couldn't careless if people like her music or not..she likes it and that's it. Man, Ya gotta love her for that!:)

  • I know if I were to see Chrissy at an airport, I would be very hard-pressed not to want to tell her how much her music has meant to me for nearly 26 years of my life. But, I think my instincts would tell me to leave her alone to live her life, and I would be content with the thrill of seeing her in-person, just being herself. She's got more sex appeal than Britney, Paris, Paula, and Ashley put together, precisely because she doesn't mug for the cameras and the tabloids.

    ROCK ON, Chrissy!!

  • As if I didn't respect Chrissy alot already, now I have even greater respect for her. She is my veg hero!

  • Here's some irony. A buncha years ago I saw The Pretenders on a stage in a GYM in Ga.

The opening act was Iggy Pop. Christie came out and kissed the deck and said she had to kiss the stage that Iggy Pop erformed on. She might no remember that... or forgetting the words to "My city Was Gone" great show. great folks. She just real people ya'll. Just plain folks. Gotta love her.

    God bless

  • can anyone put subtitles please? I dont speak english and I dont understand it very well, thanks

  • She's been very kind, you hasn't.

  • This guy is a complete parasite

  • Dude, get a grip and move on... Don't buy this guy's stuff on eBay!!!

  • if i were her, i wouldnt have giving you the time of day, she should have just walked away. people need to respect that she has her own life and shes a private person

  • You could have just left her alone; She was being pretty clear that she didn't want to get bothered...
