I am an upcoming indie game developer and I know html, css, c++, and some java. And I was thinking about what you said regarding the graphic artists, it makes perfect sense that a graphics artist wouldn't know much about coding. Our setup right now is, one person codes/designs, one person makes music/sounds, and one person makes art and animation. And we all simply critique each other and see how it all fits together.

About your luck with computers: sometimes in older buildings there are power disruptions that are so low that you may not notice it. These distruptions damage the chipset of the m-board, g-card and also the power adapter of your pc. I lost 2 good machines and a montior to this before I got an UPS and now things have been working in mint contition for 6 years.

Germany has the lowest prices on food at the supermarkets. And, that seems to be main interests of my fellow citizens since the discount malls started popping up in the 70's. When we go to a restaurant we like to eat non-german food like greek, mexican, asian. Because at home it is either something typical german/regional or fast food like pizza. I think germans in general rather care about the quality of the car they drive, then about the food they ingest. Which in my opinion is quite sad.
