  • All you have to do is try his workouts,,,then comment!! Thumbs up Steve!!

  • can anybody suggest what weight I should start at, im 5-7 160lbs.

  • @mikeplasse Grow some balls and then about the wieght of one of those

  • Mr.Maxwell u r sir a master of sport, thank you.

  • I don't know Steve Maxwell personally - but I am an RKC Team leader & a long time martial artist. Steve's technique is impeccable and he is in incredible shape. You youngsters need to demonstrate some respect. Look at what he's doing for your benefit and try to learn from him.

  • no he is 57 and look better than you , good work steve

  • A lot of uneven stress on the back and spine using a kettlebell.Best to start off with a small weight kettlebell for several months.

  • compared to the other "workouts" around this one is close perfect.

  • in your face, gordon ramsey!!!!

  • It's well known and accepted that Steve Maxwell is a hardcore athlete, what is less known however is that he began his training because of an incident at school when a bully stole his Iced bun in the lunchroom. He had been looking forward to munching that Iced bun all morning and in a flash - it was gone,in the belly of some big fat kid from the year above.Maxwell couldn't bear being too weak to fight back - he immediately grabbed a tiny kid from the year below and began using him as a kettlebell

  • ffdhfdff

  • That omlette is killer!

  • Hi there, Im a BJJ/MMA practitioner and at the moment I have an injured left knee from a wrestling throw that went bad.

I cant wrestle or do BJJ for at least 2-3 months while my ligaments heal and I was wondering if you have any recommended kettlebell/dumbell workouts I could use to maintain strength and stop me getting fat during my "down time" ?

Any hints or times would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

  • fuck this,a little of track and you hit your knee and goodbye walking

  • @fpssgamer The weight of the bell pulls your upper body forward making it difficult to strike your knee. Nothing wrong with training that requires a high level of mental alertness.

  • I've been doing 10 reps of this sequencae with 30lb kettle and it's excellent! Really great quick workout!

  • Ok is there gonna be a big difference if i'll do these exercises with a dumbell instead of kettlebell ??

  • fk this! P90X all the way!

  • @J4WS1 awww that's cute, do you do p90x with your girlfriend?

  • @id0stuff yeah i do in fact and when she bends down i get to see her luscious ass thanks for asking :D

  • Is this really hard? I just got my first kettlebell (35lbs) and tried it, could do it right away. My form probably sucked but it doesn't seem hard. Or is my kettlebell too light? Can I do more challenging stuff with my light kettlebell?

  • @hans89 If you are a male 35lbs might be sort of light weight bro.

  • @DeMoNSe3d That depends on your fitness level. I started with a 12kg/26lbs in a month was up to a 16kg/35lbs and a couple months after that I was on a 20kg/44lbs. Taking a step down in weight for doubles. I would recommend only a top fitness level guy start with a 35 pounder. And take body mass into account too.

  • @hans89 Stick to 1 pood (35 lbs) until you're very comfortable and your form is duly correct. Kettlebell training is not only about strong arms but overall fitness. On the other hand, speed of your progress depends very much on your physique. Never understimate pointers given in instructionals. They are designed for proper use and less tension on joints.

  • @BuiltLikeAFighter

one beer or one glass of wine daily is healthy. but if you overdo it on either of them, you'll increase your risk of health problems.

  • beast bro

  • Is it necessary to make high pitched audible breathing noises while doing this? Or can you just exhale without making noise and a whole boastful broadway production out of it?

  • @smithersandburns Yes, it is necessary. At the top of each explosive movement you exhale rapidly and tighten up you core to support the weight is at its peak height.

  • @smithersandburns Idiot.

  • when i started working out, it was with kettle bells. they are great for teen agers and younger people who don't want to stun their growth with heavy lifting

  • 'extol the virtues" lol

  • look extremely difficult, i'd probaably fuck up my spine doing that x_X

  • This guy is like 10 billion years old and look how fit he is.

  • @Lewis1985 LOL!! HE IS 56 NOT 10 BILLION XXXXXXX

  • More than half of the video is him talking, show the movement already!

  • Nice workout :)

  • He is obviously not at the same lvl as Steve Cotter, but imo his snatches look good.

  • anyone know where i could find one of those kettle bells?

  • @WestCoastIrk mabey try.... THE INTERNET.....

  • Wack? Maxwell is a close and personal friend of Pavel and Cotter. Pavel also refers to him many times in his books. Second, Maxwell is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and trains fighters from all over the world in there strength and conditioning those that perform at the highest level. Hes 56 and I bet you couldnt hang with him on your greatest day :).

  • @Bigturns33 Amen! People really need to stop hatin on the Stevester!

  • I workout with 20kg kettle bells and they are awesome. They feel so much heavier than standard bumbells because the wieght is not distributed over a bar like bumbells are. it's not 10kg on either end of the bar like dumbells, it's concentrated at a point in the middle of the kettle bell. I love my kettle bells for sheer wieght lifting.

  • WTF his form is absolutely terrible. He's using too much weight for his strength which is why he can't execute correct positioning. Just to start out with when doing cleans and jerks you have to keep your feet parallel to each other so you don't put pressure in your knees. Check out a real kettlebell master like Pavel Tsatsoline.

  • @kipster4 yes, i agree with you, kipster. he's lifting way way way too much! he looks like he's losing his balance, and his form is terrible! it's painful to watch, lol.

  • @mizzpeekaboo sorry , but you and kipster4 are wrong. His form is fine, he is actually using a very light weight for his strength level. As far as his feet position is concerned, that will be slightly different for everyone. If you observe lifters at the elite level, you will see that they all do things differently, based upon their own unique anatomy. Among elite atheletes, Steve Maxwell is hugely respected.

  • @kipster4

    their both good trainers.

  • not sure whats with all the shit talking here, this isnt even the entire routine. the bear and crusher routines are brutal.

  • 'people often say to me, hey steve, shut the fuck up' jesus christ you can fucking talk.

  • Keep you're arm stretched all the way, dude!. This is about muscle tension and not bout' muscle flexing!

  • @johnnyblackfoot73 dude that is such a shout! woody harrelson had a haircut!!

  • less talk more workout

  • I would be afraid of knocking my nuts off.

  • @enkibumbu

    ВІДРІЖ ЇХ - ЗРУЧНІШЕ БУДЕ)

  • Kettlebells are the shit. But this workout is kinda wack. 15/15 snatch protocols are where its at. Or road work with snatches up-hill sprints and swings

  • Woody Harrelson.

  • . i know how imprtant it is and it seems that fact has made me lose focus on it. hip drive movement, yes. thanks for reminding me. and hey! i did it! i amused :D oh, how i amused

  • i think the back n forth argument also does well for the read, it becomes engaging. oh how u amuse mike eves, lol just kidding, that's the only part that gets annoing though lol, the way truthaxe keeps saying your name, its mostly to get under ur skin people often say your name to gain power over you, just laugh it off, hey i hope im next to amuse. :D

  • You amuse, ozSpiral.

It's clear from your post that you don't get human nature. Yet, you're trying to gain status by joining up with another and attacking the dissenter.

That alone makes you amusing and transparent.

Follow from the beginning where I wrote one line about momentum.

From there, the rather amusing MikeEves1 has waged a crusade, even stooping so low as to perform ad hominen attacks.

Me. I kept to the facts. The rest of the readers here prefer the facts.

  • chill out dude..

  • Hi Ozspiral. Yes, funny how it was seen as me getting into a rage LOL. The funny thing my colleagues use items like medballs, TNT cables, rings, sandbags etc as well, but it is the KB that gives us the best results, especially during an explosive metabolic power phase. Also it's true to say that the KB swing is the exercise most people do incorrectly, as you may know it's a hip drive movement and the hips are used in most sports. Most people have weak hip flexors. Interesting debate.

  • kettlebells sounds like an engaging and very usefull excercise tool. worth researching and better yet trying out for myself. good vid

  • I find the fitness industry's desire to quantify and scrutinize everything crippling. Often these scientists have never set foot in a training session. They insist that first we must research everything and prove a training method. This sterile view holds you back. There is no 'be all and end all system', including KBs. Anecdotal evidence is a good start mind. To date I don't believe there has been any data on KB swinging, so I'm afraid we will still take critism before it's proved. Best of luck

  • Hey it works from the knees up but what about your calf muscles. I mean. Where are they? No I am not telling you to your face :)

  • Those circular cleans are cool.

  • this guy is hella strong.

  • can i rely on kettlebells to train my full body, or should i mix

  • I have no comment.

  • less talk, more do. damn...steve can talk...

  • should i switch over the do the ohter side?

  • lol

  • whats funny lol.

  • of course you should do both sides silly

  • just do the russian way, eat alot of potatoes and lift heavy shit until your eyes bleed, and then lift a littlebit more while someone calls you suka and punches you in the face repeteadly

  • rofl!!!

  • cardio makes you ripped...if there is muscle under the fat....and yes kettlebell training is cardio AND strength training

  • your wrong .. it aint getetics... if you only do cardio and over do it .. you lose muscle tissue .. then you become flabby and your resting metabolic rate decreases (by the lack of muscle) then you cant burn that much fat .. hence .. you achieve a great cardiovascular resistance .. but keep the fat

  • ayo...where the body goes for fuel is genetic..there was a pint in my life where i ate low carnbs high protein ran miles and lifetd weights

i loked like shit. u mena to tell me fedor emelianenko doesnt rain hard? Bret rogers? Roy Nelson? tehy all do cardio and Lift weights out the ass. its genetic. jus like ALL elements of body composition..thats why theres buffie the body and roseanne barr,,,,

  • genetics play part but not to the point where you can blame your look on it, where the body goes for fuel is genetic? biochemistry does not change for an individual

  • where the b0dy goes for fuel IS genetic..come on...everbody knows that...mesomirphs lose fat endomorphs lose muscle....duhhh

  • everybody has their aerobic zone and anaerobic zone. using fat as fuel happens in aerobic zone and using carbohyhdates (sugar) in anerobic zone. using muscle (amino accids) happens if you're in anaerobic zone for too long and run out of sugars. genetics play a tiny role in this for most of us. the basic body type affects if you're trying to be a body builder!

  • i wouldn't call it "flabby," but it's true that excellent cardiovascular specimens can lack the muscle definition we associate with fitness.

  • proven fact

  • are kettlebells for cardio or can u actually get ripped using them

  • Kettlebells are a great strength and conditioning tool, with most workouts you will gain functional strength and get in pretty good shape as well.

They will definitely tone and shape your body, but as far as getting ripped goes you would need to add a healthy diet into the mix.

  • Does beer count? I ain't given up my beer.

  • Beer is part of a healthy diet :P

Don't listen to the anti beer patrol, they are craaaazy.

  • @MrWinston1984 lol, just put a limit on it but dont give it up lol

  • arent u cheating when u lift that thing

from way under using the momentum

    from swinging it.?

  • the swinging motion is the only reason for kettlebells essentially, cause u cant really swing a dumbell

  • Check newton's law

  • Ps: If you want develped muscles like this guy, his diet and regime are 1)neurologically adapted to what he knows his body can handle

    2) he knows how his body works intrinsically

    3) He utilized multiple training methods for his own programming.

Guys, you need pecs like this, trust me...

  • Maxwell's legs are the most amazing for me. Can only this kettlebell workout make this?

  • No.. He also does jiujitsu and crossfit style workouts.

  • if you can get below 10% bodyfat, you can get definition in your legs like that.

  • Women typically can't get below 10%, so that isn. 10% would be considered exceptional body fat percentage for a world class female athlete.

  • try searching up the kettlebell meltdown 300 challenege, did that for the first time today in about 30 min, it's very intense, your sweating buckets by the end.

  • Maxwell is a beast. His workouts are legendary and brutal. I recommend his body weight series, he is a pioneer in practical training. It's even more amazing that he's a BJJ black belt and in his 50s.

  • I have none of his products, however, his body and fitness is testament to his knowledge. He mentions age, however, and I going to guess that he is about 35.

His breathing is on point, as we all should know that holding the breath can increase blood pressure( vasalva manuever).

Proper breathing ( as he's doing) speeds up your metabolism.

Veyr good video with lots of useful information.

  • love kettles , been in industry a long time and love the vid,

but the very first few seconds make me laugh so much!

the he says " cruel and unusual work outs" and then just pauses like a loon :)

    but hey he,s cool really.

  • awesome stuff, I've been doing body building exercises for the last 6 months but got bored with them, now i just take my sledgehammer, a tire and my kettlebell in to the park and its so much fun :)

  • I imagine busting up cars and mashing small animals would be more entertaining.

  • This kinda workout works well! The guys from the movie 300 used kettlebells! Total body workouts rule!

  • Looking forward to it, Tomorrow I begin with kettle bells, I will also flip tires.

  • Dude, this workout was tough only 5 reps per thingy and holy shit I'm doneski's. If anybody wants kettle bells theres a few places you can go, google Kettlestack and the Weider website has a kettle bell system, there both changable, Kettlestack is cheaper but they don't ship weights.

Train hard so the fights easy. -Matt Hughes

  • Do you know how to choose a kettlebell of the right weight so that i can keep proper form but also so its not too light? Some help would be appretiated.

  • play it safe, start with a 16kg which is also about 35 lbs.

  • Ha ha, 5 reps per thingy, do you mean 5 reps per exercise? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

  • theres nothing wrong with what he's doing. It's just 1 way to workout but theres plenty of other ways too. Just gotta find your likings thats all.

  • I definately want to try some kettlebells. I've just recently discovered the medicine ball and this looks like the next progression. As for his age...ha, he may very well be twice the age of some of the comment posters, but trying to match him would be like battling a bionic cyborg (which he is :-) and trying to win. Thanks for the video. Very useful and inspiring.

  • go for it man, I've got my 16 back in january and recently moved up to the 24, its awesome, challenging and fun and you see results quickly.

  • he looks and sounds like mills lane.

  • Hahahah, yeah he does.

  • wow very impressive

  • Well, try doing half the things he does when you reach his age. Then we will see who is pathetic.

  • i bet that works your forearms like crazy i wanna try it

  • I notice it works your legs, abs, balance, grip,

shoulders, chest, wrist, back and the for arms, but not like crazy just perfectly :)every thing but the for arms gets a good work out. the for arms get worked when you snatch, and do any exercise when your arm is extended like for example the the Turkish get up :) now that is awesome work out :D :) for life :D

  • this is a great sequence. thank you maxwell!

  • Good instructional. This guy knows his stuff.

  • I think that because the kettlebell is always driving down you're less likely to torque your shoulder or cause a similar injury.

  • the motions are much more fluid, i can do a figure 8 then do a clean then do a press and then squat, you cant do these motions with a dumbbell without stopping and repositioning the dumbbell. Plus the kettlebell works on your grip and forearms greatly, I use dumbbells as well but the kettlebell is much more fun imo. Try it out, I was skeptical at first as well.

  • Plus I find that the KB exercises work your core waaaay more than just DBs. At least for me....

  • I see what you mean; however, a kettlebell has more leverage than a dumbbell when doing the exercises.

I'm having trouble trying to picture a swing with a dumbbell.

  • Thank you for posting a good demo video.

  • He's not snapping his hips at the top of the exercise

  • u dont know what the your talking about, how do u finish the snatch then?

question? how do you spell snatch...hint not like that.

  • hahah damn that shit was funny as hell...and his form is fine wtf?

  • you butt slapped that fool, ha ha ha nice 1

  • lol hahahaha :)

  • his form is fine, what are you talking about

  • how many kettlebells excercise are there

  • Does kettlebell lose weight too n get big abs please answer

  • yes,it will both help you lose weight and gain strength in the abdomen

  • this video would be much more effective if the man can perform a squat thrust the right way.. ive been training with kettlebells for 4 years and this guy is horseshit

  • this vid he didn't even do squat thrusters.

so what are you talking about?

his form is good why don't you put a vid out on yourself then hey

  • Why are your knees bending during your press? Are you RKC certified?

  • Comment removed

  • how many sets would be ideal for each side??

  • fuck off and die

  • you wish that you granpa or your papa look like this man, I do think this man deserve more respect , he realy earned now ask who I am ? i will tell you

  • brutal

  • 1:35 , what he starts to mention about "short, brief, intense workouts" is profound.

  • he is i think 55!

    amazing granpa!

    *clap clap clap*

  • ahhhhh I hear ever creak in that old mans knees!

  • Fruitcake!!!

  • well he definitly confirms for me that i need a set of kettlebells. if he is an older gent and can have a standard of fitness and control like that, then i as a young man have been put to shame.

  • Until you actually work out with kettlebells, there is simply no way to explain the difference. I would recommend finding a good, reputable crossfit gym (usually they are the ones who have kettlebells) and have them take you through a workout. I guarantee, if you push yourself, you will not walk the next day... and you will puke your guts out before the end of the workout. I played rugby for years, and was an mma fighter, and the BEST, most effective workouts I ever had were with kettlebells.

  • yo this dude is like 50 someting...you guys should admire the guy

  • I have my doubts that that could train the full body. Areas such as the triceps look like they aren't getting trained as much as the biceps (yet triceps account for 2 thirds of your arm's total mass). Also, how would you train the backs of the legs with your kettlebell? It cannot be done. I don't think this idea serves as an alternative to the gym, but I do think that it does have potential for toning muscle.

  • That's why you don't use the kettlebell exclusively. You do other training in addition to the kettlebell. Besides, the kettlebell is not really a bodybuilder split-routine type of workout equipment.

  • you could always try a 200# one armed deadlift with a kettle bell, but 50-75# one handed with enough reps might just get you what your looking for. remember this video is a sample...just a thought...

  • Sorry but you are completely incorrect - not to be rude :) I agree with Danrt2's comments - I have trained in gyms for 12 yrs and for the last 12 months under NZ mma/jujitsu silver medalist using KBs and they are the real deal. Suggest you try it - learn swing/turkish getup & snatches and try it for a couple of weeks you will amaze yourself with the results.

  • also, i dont understand what u mean when u say that that u can not train the triceps and hamstrings with kettlebells. u can do any exercise with a kettlebell that u can do with a dumbbell AND MORE. u can bench press kettlebells, shoulder press them, deadlift, squat, floor press them, etc. and if u really wanted to you can do things like tricep extensions bicep curls and other isolation exercises. kettlebells are simple another tool, just like barbells and dumbbells.

  • Dude, no one excercise is capable of fully training the entire body. Your body eventually builds up resistance to it, your muscles are of different shapes, sizes and densities, and your legs aren't necessarily being trained that much when it is your arms that carry the kettle bells. The average human's legs are at least 3 times stronger than their arms, and if you think a few little kettlbells are sufficient training for that, you're out of your mind.

  • yeah and thats why kettlebells are good because theres hundreds of exercises you can do with them. and if you dont think you can get a max strength workout for your legs try doing pistol squats with a 100+ lb kettlebell and see if u get passed 3 reps.

  • thats y sum of the best fighters around the world including Fedor use Kb's.

  • Another thing, I never said dumbbells and barbells were sufficient on their own. They need to be combined with weights training, machine training, resistance training, you name it. That's the only way you can fully develop your body, and if you disagree with the science behind your body building resistance to a certain exercise after a while, go look it up.

  • dumbbells are barbells are weight training and resistance training, lol. and you do not need any machines, machines are for old woman and disabled people. remember most people who use kettlebells are NOT bodybuilders. it is mostly used as a conditioning tool for athletes. i have been studying exercise science, kinesiology, and physiology for years so don't tell me to look anything up..

  • Please post a video of you doing 200+ snatches with a 24kg kettlebell in ten minutes. Love to see the look of horror on your face. A body builder wouldn't last 2 minutes doing this.

  • Lol, I posted that nearly a year ago yet you respond? Look, I concede, you're right. I was speaking out of context, I have since then learned how effective kettlebell training is, a withdraw the comment.

  • Actually, deadlifts with a heavy kettlebell or even single leg deadlifts, as well as hip lifts in supine position with the feet on the kettlebell, ALL work the Hamstrings, what you like to call the "back of the legs". The posterior chain is what is worked with most kettlebell exercicses.

  • I keep thinking this guy is about to injure himself.

  • Man I'ma big fan of those circular cleans! Those look great!!!

  • this guy showing how to use it knows his stuff.. thumbs up :)

  • kettlebells are really made for explosive power movements that is what he is doing. it is not momentum like some people think. its mainly power from the legs he is barely using any muscles from his arm. kettlebells not only work me out more than free weights but i get more tired and sweat a hell of a lot more.
