Actually I think the house is being torn down. THey were gutting it after it flooded in Katrina and thankfully the fan was mounted high above the back door and was 100% spared.
@b70002 A friend's house built in the 1920's had one in New Orleans. A lot of what one thinks of as "industrial" fans were used in homes, usually in windows, when I was growing up in New Orleans. Look up "Reed Unit Fan": belt drive, almost all used in homes as well as shops/restaurants.
Beautiful find! I've always loved those big ILG cast frames. I've never seen one with blades like this. I'm sure you'll have it looking like new before long.

Nice cool fan. Interesting blade design.

I can't believe how quiet that fan is... All exhaust fans should be that quiet!
And the previous owner tossed it, likely replacing it with a POS made in China.

go to acmefan.con and check out model FQ and LQ fans. these are also very quiet and can be had up to 36" inch diameter

Not likely; This thing probably came out of a commercial installation.

Actually Ilgair fans were marketed for households. Came in exhaust, transom, and thru-the-wall styles.
