  • The Bar-Kays played for our fraternity's dance at the Holiday in on N. College in Fayetteville Arkansas in 1967. We had Issac Hayes about the same time for another party. Cost us $600 which isn't bad for Issac Hayes and the Do Dad Orchestra. My brothers fraternity at Florida State had Otis Redding and the Pine Top Singers come down from Georgia to play a Delta Tau Delta party.

  • el chyste samplea esta cancion!

  • 1967 was one of the best years of my life, no doubt about it. Hot cars, beautiful girls who still left you with something to imagine.

  • some of the bar kays died with otis reddingon the plane crash..

  • Love it man! Thank you taking the time to post that.

  • Got to love SPY'S LIKE US

  • I do hear Ghostbusters and I Wanna New Drug... but I also hear the bass line for Taxman by The Beatles that was released a year before this. Love it though.

  • Ghostbusters! No, um, Pop Muzik! No, wait, SOUL FINGER!

  • the best well done

  • Definitly essential soul icons.

  • i love this one of my very favourite instrumentals. Great dance we used to do to this when i hear this i always think of the tiles in oxford street. i wish it went on for ages such a great tune

  • I remember when Huey Lewis was suing Ray Parker for sampling "I Wanna New Drug" on "Ghostbusters." I said all along they both should have been sued for sampling this...JMO

  • To samspadena:

Hats off to your ears!!! I have been saying for decades that the original "Ghostbuster" theme song sounds JUST like it originated from the Bar-Kays' SOULFINGER!!!

  • Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! I can't be the only one to hear the simularity.

  • I just heard this song on the movie Spies Like Us with Chevy Chase and Dan LOL great movie and very very groovy song ;-)

  • Tragic accident with 4 of them going down in the crash with Otis Redding.

  • @maspow2

    Yeah, and Lucille.

  • Guidance! Source Programmable Guidance!

  • it's great

  • Stax Shouldn't close out of businessin 1975. They should've moved to Warner Bros., Or RCA, Or CBS.

  • I was sweet sixteen when I first heard this and now I'm 'sweet; sixty!!....still feel it the same though....soul finger....

  • There's something wrong with that picture. The Bar-Kays's record label should've been "Stax", not Atlantic.

  • @afj102979

You got that right.....and Atlantic destroyed STAX.

  • guys must have trouble gettin gigs......sooula fingher!....lol

  • My favorite BarKays song other than SexOMatic and freaky Behavior. I saw Unsung and the critics are right they never got any credit. They should get an achievement award

  • @21sttnmemphis: Different band. This is the Barkays that died in the plane crash with Otis Redding. The two surviving members formed another Barkays later on.

  • That was when SOUL was the coolest thing on earth....youtube the song SWEET SOUL MUSIC by Arthur Conley....it is soooo soulful.

  • Soul Finger!! Soul Finger!!

  • I played keyboards in a band in 1967-The Res-we won the WGVA Battle of the Bands at the Geneva Theater, Geneva, NY, 1st Place prize-we played before the Bar-Kays that summer! We were the only 5 honky white boys in the club, but we got applause and had a blast with the Bar-Kays! I still play the trumpet part w my nasal trumpet!! Soul Finger!!

  • "Middle Finger!"

  • We use to dance our butts off, back in 1967, listening to this recording. I once played it 15 straight times and NOBODY complained!!! Geez those were great great times ~ The Summer of Love.

  • shake ya tush!!

  • Acrkoyd

  • @jaspur10 It's Aykroyd, and I fully get what you mean by this.

  • Song was in the awful movie Spies Like Us. The best part of the movie actually, Aykroyd and Chevy Chase's characters observe the crew of a Soviet mobile ICBM take a break and get down to Soul Finger.

  • Spies Like Us fucking rocked, man. But if you didn't like it, that's cool.

  • Don't let WMG see this video, I used Soulfinger on one of my cartoons and those cocksuckers muted it. I hate WMG.

  • nice song

  • si...es muy bueno

  • That song was PRETTY old, I'm going to do it on recorder for my school concert. THe theme is Blast to the past, so I thought this would be a good song.

  • Great great tune!! The only thing l don't like about it is that IT'S TOO SHORT!!

  • Ya sabes... lo bueno, si breve, dura menos.

  • @imthedorf1964

I know that`s right, this song is the JAM!!!!

  • Wow...did "Ghostbusters" rip this off, or what?

  • ive always thought the same thing!

  • hmmm...

  • it was in spies like us

  • every time i heal this song, i think of "spies like us".

  • Great song. simply beautiful artistic simplicity on the vid! I love everything about it.

  • Thanks for your words!

  • Great song, great artists, great images in the film of a spinning disc being scratched by a needle. Now Thats Old school !! My friend. Thanks so much for this post. You took me back to as a child, I used to love standing over a record watching it spin while the music took me to a happy place.

  • WOW !!!!!!!!!!

  • What an AWESOME TUNE!!!

  • my favorite song from the Bar-Kays

  • Mine, too!!

  • love the turntable clicking off. and a banging song.

  • It's a shame that Huey Lewis got all of Columbia's (Sony) money in the lawsuit, cause this song was ripped even more than "I Wanna New Drug" - the chord progression, drum fills, even the children chanting "Soul Finger" sound identical to "Ghostbusters!"

Because of the movie, Columbia, not Ray, wound up making the infringment payout. 4 or the writers of "Soul Finger" (the 1st Bar Kays) died along side Otis. But the crash survivor Cauley and bassist Alexander should have gotten paid something!

  • did not know it was the otis redding plane crash they died in. Another day the music died.

  • Ray Parker Jr totally ripped this song off! This is ghostbusters. or ghostbusters is this.

  • What i definately do hear is iggy pop's "i,m bored"...i suppose immitation is a form of flatery.check it out..

  • anyone else hear bits of black betty solo in there???

  • YYou got a combination turntable with 8 track and 2 speakers. I lost mine a long time ago i don't know what happened to it. After 30 years everything is in a fog.

  • who couldn't love this?

  • My ex-girlfriend...

  • hence, the "ex" before "girlfriend"

  • A former Buddy of mine,he refuse to believe this was the Bar-kays and they were his 2nd favorite band.go figure?

  • Great just great

  • It's a classic!
