  • looks like there were bullet stains on the enemies clothes once you killed them, should not have removed that from the final if you asked me.

  • @raulgabi9595 lol!5 years in concepting/development!

i know that games take long to be developed, but I thought it would take about one and a half or two years!

    thanks for the trivia ,anyway!

  • Alex Baldr shot at a construction site? 1:30, this version looks so bad compared to the released version

  • Thank you Remedy that remade the game and did so what it is now

  • @Hitler233 U look ugly

  • This is an awesome game, don't mind the release date :)

  • @Hitler233 agreed

  • I think this is the same engine they were gonna use with duke nukem forever

  • I have to say I do not miss the days of repetitive, pre-set death animations.

  • This looks great! This could be as good as the version they use now.

  • 1999 ahh the good old days :)

  • @Hitler233 who cares?

  • this trailer didnt really get people hyped for the game as i remember they should have shown more slo mo like sniper shots in bullet time ect.

  • NEVER knew there was a trailer like this! :O

And for the '99 standards, it looks awesome! :D

  • now i know why this game was released only in 2001

  • somewhat similar to the game

  • this game is awesome. In trailer i believe its beta version like was with GTA parts i think

  • NEW YORK CITY was full of criminals back then and thanks 2 max payne he wipe them out including corruption.

  • 1:35 alex baulder was brutaly slain at the construction site??? WTF????? He died at the roscoe street station! looks like this version have some stuff that they removed from the original. (like big red croshair) sry for my english

  • This is Dreamcast's graphic..right?Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • but he's so handsome in graphic novels 8) :)))

  • DEATH! IS! COMING!

  • iam glad they delayed the game till 01 cause this looks like shit man.max payne 1 was the bomb back in the day.i really really hope that duke nukem forever would be like this and that 3d realms are in fact actually working on it

  • WAS? you mean this game IS STILL the shit man, this game is awesome and people still play this game.

  • 1:15 i wish that death was there.

  • fuck, this game was one giant shroom trip

  • PS1?

  • PS1? PS1 is not capable of doing those kind of textures, thats Dreamcast graphics.

  • nope, ps2 early

  • Not most of the textures and models were used after the delay of Max Payne on Dreamcast. Also, there are some scenes that were very interesting and the story has a few changes.

  • Looks like the old Quake2 engine, not bad for the the time anyway!

  • the changes is the decals the animation the weapons and the sour face of max payne and the diving moments is added

  • I LOVE this game!

  • im glad the game wasnt that crap

  • The part near the end of the trailer where they follow him limping off for no apparent reason is a good example of how they really tightened this game up from the early design. The pointless Matrix spin (destroys the game pacing) I can forgive as a typical trailer conceit, but that other thing reminds me of Half-Life too much.

  • You know that Max Payne was in the production way before Matrix movies have even been designed. nt though!

  • What's with the 'nt though'? I'm not trying to piss on Max Payne (also don't like The Matrix much). I did have the release date for The Matrix wrong in writing that post - but there's still a possibility I could be right.

Here's the facts: 3DR announced the website for MP back on June 15, 1998. (For some reason I recently thought The Matrix was a few years older than it I knew was).

This E3 trailer would have been produced before mid-May 1999 (the show was wrapped up on the 17th or so).

  • Continuation of reply to Kopfshot down below:

This is important because The Matrix was released in North America on March 31, 1999 (Remedy people would have had to see it before its Finnish release, but of course they worked with 3DR based in Texas).

I wouldn't be surprised if they added the (lame) 360-spin shot after The Matrix, but they definitely had Bullet Time integrated somehow already.

  • Final part of reply to Kopfshot.

John Woo films look like a bigger influence; hell, Payne even looks a bit like Tequilla. I don't know how that stacks up to the films like Hard Boiled, though.

Conclusion: It's possible The Matrix was a definitive inspiration here, but I would agree it's also quite likely not. Outside the 360 spin there doesn't seem to be much from The Matrix (as I remember it). Somebody will have to ask them!

  • Max Payne was being made from the year 1996, right after Death Rally. It has been confirmed by Remedy.

  • I mean it was already in production in 1996. Bullet time was one of the first ideas of the game. So logicaly, Matrix couldn't be the source of ideas? So no, it isn't possible.

  • well for one thing the matrix couldn't call their version iof slow mo bullet time cause max payne had copyrighted it. hence why they called it focus

  • The game is almost entirely John Woo mixed with film noir. Quoth Max Payne: "Gogniti bailed. I made like Chow Yun Fat."

  • @Kopfshot @Kopfshot That's true and I agree with you but if you look at earlier trailers they didn't have any bullet time at all. I believe they added bullet time AFTER Matrix because it wasn't around before which doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if Matrix inspired Max Payne or not. It's still one of the best games ever.

  • @MarkP0rter matrix did not inspire max payne it was all the old jon woo films like hard boiled

  • @MarkP0rter The Woo film Face/Off had a scene near the end that used "bullet time" Granted it was only in one scene, but it preceded the Matrix films use.

  • @perfectx357 WAY before that was Full Contact starring Chow Yun-Fat which featured extensive bullet time in the final club shootout.

  • "Alex Balder was found brutally slain at the construction site..."

    Interesting.

  • HE SURE CAN RUN!.... l33t!

  • the enemies looks like duke nukem...

  • whitch one is this?

  • it still is

  • ну блин у него рожа жD

графика хужеб но gameplay лучше чем оригинал

it would be better if theyd just rebuild the graphics, get rid of that huge fat guy with a tommy gun. Not the whole thing.

still, rebuilding is very tough thats what happened to stalker

  • Ahh memories

  • DevilMaster, its also for PS2 and I think Xbox.

    Great game!

  • for wat system was it going to be

    ?

  • PC.

  • Notice that the pistol in his left hand never fires a round X).
