It's the power to weight ratio. Normal sized cars are based on the size of a buggy one horse can haul. That convention limits the acceleration of road cars in the first quarter mile. After the quarter mile that Vette is going overtake really fast.

thats not entirely true your right with the power-weight ratio, its a fact but, the weight distribution is a very impotant factor. If the driver was positiioned by the front wheels there wouldn't be a problem thus resulting in a controled start. if you take any car cut it in half and weight the two halves you'll get a perfect visual of how a car's weight is distributed. I just love the whole power/weight and distribution theory its fantastic.
