  • I got chills, and If they're from the temperature I'm Going to die of hypothermia

  • Some people still don't realize this is Mike, not Eddie. Hampton is a true funkadelic, he knows how it should be, and he also emulates(/-ed) Eddie Hazel on purpose, yet has his own original skillz and chops and vibe and therefore plays on his OWN. This video here is Michael Hampton. For Eddie, see "Eddie Hazel live 1979".

  • This is Eddie Hazel, if u ever knew what he looked like u would see that it's Eddie. Michael Hampton is a true Monster guitarist but Eddie Hazel he's not. Tjam*

  • Sorry to disagree, but, this is Eddie... I'll never forget what the man sounds like... Mike is good, but, no Eddie....

  • @Dzo826 sorry, you're just wrong about that. It's Michael Hampton on lead guitar

  • Glen Goins had a GREAT voice and a nice AX man!

  • The Osmonds used the main riff for "Crazy Horses". Before anyone says they put Crazy Horses out first, think again. Parliament released "Red Hot Mama" in 1970.

  • This is Michael Hampton, and not Eddie Hazel.

Plz thumb this comment up, so that everybody can see it, instead

of asking about it over and over again.

  • Guitar Army US Funk Mob!

  • Pick up the git-tar every now and then, do ya?

  • Eddie Hazel is one of the most underrated guitar players ever

  • @lcrmlcrm

Truer words have not been said...all the props Hendrix gets meanwhile...peoples are missing out

  • @lcrmlcrm that's true, but this is not Eddie in this video

  • @drfuzzy23 4realz? thanks for the tip bud

  • Kidd Funkadelic and nothing for the kids to listen to... Sad. Jimi died rover moved over Michael and Eddie took over. Too bad that Eddie and Jimi are jamming without us and Michael don't tear it up like this no more......

  • Ride On!

  • Chili Peppers? :3

  • Aprende aí mc catra !

  • I'd imagine if the world listened to the whole song, it could increase job growth, teach discrete mathematics to young children, and lead to the discovery of the Higgs Boson.

  • I need me a funk shake

  • GODDAMN! his fretwork is jaw dropping! opening with the b-side "Vital Juices" witch was an extended jam from A-side. is that Eddie?

  • thanks for posting this vid brutha i was glad i bumped in to this while blazing it......oh funk me!!!

  • Is it me or is his alembic have the head stock flipped for Jimi?

  • another milestone in George and Bootsy's decline...

Mind you, love the vid, the un-feasibly large collar. So Bootsy spent his money on coke and george spent his on a guitar hero.

Actually, it's very good and I'm grateful. But (and you could hear that 'but' coming) I'm a Bootsy fan - so this is sad for me.

But, but and but - it's ok: cos now he's straightened up and is flying right and doing music.

    Peace,

    AdamButNotReally [Full name.]

  • I just noticed that the whole chorus is basically the intro to Voodoo Child.

That screechy bend at 6:04....chills. Quartertones.

  • That ain't Hazel playing lead, it's Hampton. Hampton's great, but Hazel's the greatest. Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock?

  • It ain't nothin but a party--and the greatest guitar work I have EVER seen. I think Eddie Hazel truly was greater than Hendrix.

  • @qwisp Maybe so.

  • Yeah baby!

  • I am moved to bad language. But fucking hell!

  • Thank god for the funky ball of tits from space

  • eddie hazel shreded before eddie an halen did!

  • Funkin' through the work day!!!!

  • OK its 3 AM, and I cant stop the FUNK. Just saw P-Funk over the weekend. Long live the FUNK.

  • RIP Eddie Hazel

  • I ment the guitar lick at 0;18 is similair to "Who Knows" by Jimi Hendrix haha exc.

  • that guitar lick at 0:18 is sooo similair to "the power of soul" by Jimi Hendrix

  • Pfunking Awesome!

  • sex

  • You can hear that intro solo all over the Red Hot Chili Peppers albums with John Frusciante.

  • i love it! playing rock on the guitar with a funky synthasizer!

  • good god...I'm 'bout to o.d. on this fonk!

  • @mothershipA I believe Mike"Kid Funkadelic" Hampton auditioned for a spot in the group by playing Eddie"Maggot Brain" Hazels' gitar solo from Maggot Brain! The rest is history.

  • this m hampton, not e hazel.

  • This is insane. The first 3 or 4 minutes cleared my sinuses, cleaned my apartment, and got rid of my dependence on foreign oil.

  • @CousinKill that's awesome, if only the funk had that effect on the world.

  • @CousinKill Dude, this shit is too funky for description! I'm not a guitarist, but damn, that kicked ass!

  • Audio/video quality: indifferentelly small. Musicality quality: definetely 10!

  • Best Nine Minutes and Fifty Eight Seconds I've ever spent.

  • Damn! I think Eddie may have shown Michael a few licks or 2. Not that Michael isn't amazing on his own. Anyone know which show this is from? I would love to have a dvd of this to compliment all my other P-Funk discs. Eddie would have been way beyond outstanding had he not left us so young.

  • Łąki Łan - polish funkadelic/psychofunk

    watch?v=yZI9MS3EoX4

    watch?v=H2Vm2Y7vZgk&feature=fvwrel

    watch?v=5I9JXOdA29E&feature=related

  • Funkadelic

  • He ranks with the TOP DAWGS of the all time great rock guitarist. R.I.P.

  • fuckadelic > Parliment

  • i fucking came after hearing the intro solo, that guy is fucking sick

  • No man, this is de amazing Michael "Kid funkadelic" Hampton

  • love how they weren't afraid of juts sitting in a groove for a while, letting it it flow and funk it out. awesome.

  • FUNK N ROLL!!!!!!!!!

  • wow - too cool. a young Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton tearing' it up... this gotta be from the mid 70's... what a fun show! They were the black KISS (and coincidentally, on the same record label Casablanca, along with Abba, Donna Summer, village people, etc).... a great, fun time for music. Unlike now, i might add.

  • 1:45 for some reason makes me think of crab hands

  • if you dont move to this then you might be dead

  • Eddie Hazel is incredible too, however this is Micheal Hampton playing lead. That's definitely Mike's strat.

  • Fuck yeah Eddie...

    Rest Real Funky Man....

  • 17 thumbs down. For the love of all that is good and holy... WHY? I can't understand it.

  • damn, very very nice :)

  • Ain't they gon' cut da lights on so's we can see sumpn?

  • Oh, if even just for ONE DAY I could have the feel of that drummer. Lord, Lord, Lord.....

  • I got hear by hearing the the covers by RHCP and this just blew me away

  • Yeah, thats Mikes afro and custom Strat and Glen Goins and Gary Shider playing on this solo

  • Yeah, thats Mikes afro and custom Strat

  • Masterpiece.

  • there's no Eddie Hazel on this vid. It's Mike Hampton who plays strat.

  • I bet after this song his e-guitar gave birth to 3 ukuleles...

  • This is more than good!!!!:) yeah i can feel it!!!!

  • Funk is its own reward...

  • You can tell by the way he's moving that George is really feelin it

  • when i feel tired and sore and i listen to the funkadelics i get energy for ten.

  • Glen Goins and Gary Shider could blast some vocals! R.I.P.

  • We will never see a band that will even come close to this! George Clinton and Funkadelic were way ahead of its time! The best video i"ve ever seen of a band performing live!

  • FUNKATEER FOREVER

  • If I could be a black man who played guitar, I would be Eddie Hazel.

  • @justdoitasshole I think that's not Eddie Hazel - I think it's Michael Hampton. He was in the band by 1975.

  • @saleens7austin Well, yeah, I mean, that may be so and all, but I'd still be Eddie Hazel...and five equally misinformed people seem to thnk the same thing....I dunno.

But really, if you were there witnessing that in real time, would you even be able to remember your own name? This show is definetely on my tme machine itinerary.

  • @justdoitasshole Ed can play!

  • @justdoitasshole Hazel is one bad mutha-watchyomowff! But I'd be Prince! watch the vid Greatest Guitar Solo Ever - his axe work is amazing - not to mention his women. lol

  • @VanteStyle ask Prince who he admires,.... I love him too, ...but get real.

  • @DONNIMETROPOLIS313 From hearing him interviewed a few times I have a feeling he'd say anyone who has truly mastered the art. Hazel or Hampton fit that criteria so I'd bet he'd include them. He's been compared to Hendrix, respected by Vai, Clapton, Miles Davis, Santana, Stevie Wonder, Aretha, Chaka, Petty, TuPac, Michael Jackson, inducted into the US and British Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. No disrespect at all to Hazel or Hampton, but being Prince, other than the height, wouldnt be too bad. IMHO

  • @justdoitasshole i'd be me (;

  • @justdoitasshole FYI Funkateers: THIS GUITARIST PLAYING IN THIS VIDEO IS Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton --

NOT Eddie Hazel... Jus sayin'! Yes, they were both bad-asses!

  • Comment removed

  • @justdoitasshole that isn't Eddie Hazel

  • @johnnytuscadero Yeah, no...it's not. My bad. How could I post such a blatantly ignorant comment and get a b-load of thumbs up? Long live the misinformed!

  • FUNKATEERS are on the ONE when it comes to guitar wizardry...and the beats, the grooves, the moves, the laffs, the soul, the freaks, the....everythang. America is on the verge of wakin' up to the funk, bobba...watch out! Here it comes!

  • i honestly just cant get over how amazing this dude is on guitar!....u fricken believabel

  • ONCE A FUNKATEER ALWAYS A FUNKATEER. P FUNK FOREVER.........

  • 15 people are def

  • EARLY FUNKADELIC HAD THE MOST AMAZING GUITAR LICKS OF THAT TIME & SPACE.

  • reminds me of Jimi a littlebit

  • what's up with his guitar? why is it upside down? it looks like he's using a left handed guitar turned upside down to play it right handed, with the strings reversed so it plays like a normal guitar...

  • @tomuchcoffeeman THE WHOLE THING IS JUST INSANE!NOTHING NORMAL ABOUT THIS!TILL THE DAY I DIE

  • @tomuchcoffeeman they make them that way , similar to a Jimi look but right handed

  • please i really need the whole concert video we can talk about price just help me

  • saw them tonite.still mindblowing power and soul.still the bomb!!!!!

  • saw them tonite.still mindblowing power and soul.still the bomb

  • @myfunkyway9 were'nt they the shit!!had to take people away in ambulances

  • Michael "Kid Funkadelic" doing funking thing in the best live verson of Red Hot Mama .Can you imagine what Hendrix could of done with this ?But anyway Michael Hampton and Eddie Hazel are from the Hendrix school of guitar playing.

  • This is a SERIOUS jam....!!

  • Does anyone on here know anything about the pickups in Hampton's guitar here?

  • jimi hendrix was native american not black...i know the fro was confusing but the white guys had em too

  • @lithiumissick42 jimi hendrix was both native american and black dude

  • Sorry if this has been mentioned here already but what is the name of the CD (if there is one) this concert comes from? I stumbled across this and have been totally blown away.

  • Is this Eddie?

  • @zinadork It's not Eddie. It's another cat ripping the axe. Michael "Kid Funkadelic" Hampton. Without question Eddie was a key figure in Parliament/Funkadelic,but that group had more than enough talent musicians 2describe. Hazel is an underrated talent to mainstream. But so is Hampton. In fact folks like youself think that it's Hazel in this clip rather then Hampton. Maybe you never heard of him before?

Well here he is, another guitar playing gem found online. He plays so well;don't you agree?

  • @rocknsoulbro Well said. I'm surprised to see a polite and thoughtful response on YouTube. I am aware of Hampton. He plays on the live version of Maggot Brain on "One Nation". I'm a big fan of Blackbird McKnight.

  • @zinadork Alright now. Blackbird McKnight. Hey I hear you. It's also good you know some p-funk history about Hampton. People should know that is wasn't just Eddie that did some heavy guitar work on some of Parliament/Funkadelic's classic hits.

  • If you like his guitar work check out Clutch!

  • jesus!help me this awesome PFUNK ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

  • @hdbacote

listen to jimi hendrix circa 1970 and where he was going with his music before he died parliament and red hot chilli peppers were definitely influenced by the man but also insanely original

  • WOW this is just so amazing!!

  • I have watched lots of live performances on youtube, but this one just kills it.

  • cheeky bit of voodoo chile

  • wheres that funky sound coming from? is that from a synthesizer?

  • It's better to burn out, cause rust never sleeps.

  • R.I.P. Garry Shider & Catfish Collins!!! Parliament-Funkadelic @ their absolute funkin best!!!! The World's Baddest Band.., Hands down ever!

  • This is how funk metal got started!

  • rock song with some funk ,ixed in there! love it

  • @rbutler1123 I gotta check that out! There hasn't been so much funk like since the days of the Budweiser Superfest back in early 80's. They need the Bar-Kays,SOS&Gap band.( CHARLIE ARE YOU DOWN)?lol. Just think if Rick, Teena,& Roger were there!!

  • anyone know where i can find the tab for this?

  • This is the best piece of film of Funkadelic that i have ever seen. This video leaves me so lifted! Mickael Hamptom in this video is brilliant!

Never get tired of watching this!

  • i get funk attacks when i listen to this, my body cant stop moving

  • @richard911112 know the feelin

  • I think it's such a shame that there are just so many guitar lovers out there playing all the classic idols like jimmi paige, hendrix, vaughan, etc. up and down, but never have heard of Michael Hampton.

    Leslie West = Rock God

    Michael Hampton = Funk God

  • The first time I saw this I got hooked. Michael "Kid Funkadelic" Hampton is tearing it up!! Now without question, Hazel is THE MAN when it comes to the Axe.

But any true guitar lover and true funkateer knows that "Kid Funkadelic" ain't no joke!!

  • "In 1974, Hazel was indicted for assaulting an airline stewardess and an air marshall, along with a drug possession charge. While he was in jail, Clinton recruited Michael Hampton as the new lead guitarist for Parliament-Funkadelic to replace Hazel." - Wikipedia.

It's definitely Michael Hampton perfoming in this vid.

  • oh man, I wish I was born earlier. seeing these guys in their space-costumes, playing and singing like crazy must have been such an uniqe experience

  • @Patchankaman It was.. & I was only a little shorty (8yrs old) when they switched up into the more radio/kid friendly version of themselves. Saw them at the Philadelphia spectrum with 2 Motherships!

  • get high to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ok, so somebody give me an answer once and for all. Is this Eddie Hazel or Michael Hampton?

  • Remember...Funkadelic was and is a guitar band, the were always 3 or four guitars as good as Mike on board.
