  • "translucent mirror" i.e clear glass. LOL

  • @TacticalHadoken it's coated with silver, so it makes it a mirror.

  • I just bought one yesterday for my sister's wedding and I captured some stunning pictures. However, when I shot video for like 10 to 15 minutes, I felt it went hot and I then switched it off. Is that normal, or should I return it?

    Thanks

  • "Keep going till your finger gets tired"...?

Come on, I doubt the buffer on a Canon 1d mark 4 could handle that, and that thing costs more than my car.

  • 10FPS, impressive, shame the IQ is poop!

  • You need to inform Consumers if this camera shoots full frame video and stills, also that in video mode everything is shoot on auto. there are no manual control settings except for the exposure. Prior to shooting. There is now a firmware update to address a few issues but not that much. Hopefully Sony will continue to release firmware updates. It would be awesome. to have control with aperture settings, and the remote control isn't consistent . Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

  • I have an Alpha a55 since a few weeks. It is an awesome camera IMHO. A friend of mine who is a canon hardliner (EOS 450d) was sceptical about my idea buying a Sony Alpha a55. But now he changed his mind because of the great image results and the high quality and equipment of the a55. To say a Sony Alpha 55 is not a good camera is a stupid prejudice. Everything works well & fine on the a55. The camera quality is great and the pictures are awesome and that´s what counts for me.

  • "this camera features a unique design"... Indeed - a grip that only a child could like.

  • watch?v=8zErCztG0Xg&feature=channel_video_title Norwegian nature video test

  • This camera is absolutely NOT for studio use. Can't use it with studio strobes...

  • I guess there's no chance that she would have mentioned that when shooting video on this camera, the sensor over heats and the camera tells you allow it to cool down. I wonder if this is also true for long bulb exposures...

  • @GATFOCT The overheating comes from the steady shot...If you are shooting long exposures steadyshot is usually turned off because of being mounted on a tripod

  • @leeanicas That's not true. Overheating is a result of prolonged use (in this case a few minute). I had the camera for a couple of weeks and ran into the overheating message at about 12 1/2 minutes with SteadyShot off. I have yet to actually use the SteadyShot on my alpha.

I can't believe how many people defend the company as if it's some innocent victim...

  • i heard it heats up quik and the battery is no ggood

  • But with this new Sony Translucent Mirror camera design your not getting 100 percent light to the image sensor, your picture is just getting 70 percent of light. plus the Translucent Mirror is in the way when taking a picture, So who wants 70 percent picture quality to look at?...not me!. I think it would be safer to stay with a original design DSLR camera, then atleast you will know the picture will be at 100 percent quality.

  • Compared to the Camcorders now available is this better or worse?

  • ‎2 reasons why I don't like the a/33/a55 "SLT" concept:

    1) the mirror will sit there, attract dust, and require extra cleaning along with the sensor. Unlike the reflex mirror, the stationary SLT mirror's cleanliness is as necessary as the sensor's.

    2) if the sensor is SO good that it can take good pictures after the ...translucent mirror has split the light (and therefore the light's intensity), I'd rather have a reflex mirror which would leave me with a much faster shutter speed!

  • @GATFOCT 1) Dust on the mirror is like dust on the back lens element, it probably won't show up in pictures. But time will tell if your fears about the mirror are justified. Dust on the sensor is a far bigger problem but that is a problem with all interchangeable cameras.

    2) The camera only loses 1/3 stop of light due to the pellicle mirror so you're not going to get a much faster shutter speed without it.

  • @dtz1000 I guessed as much, and I'm hoping it'll be a non-issue. I'm not sure whether I'll stay with Sony or move into Canon (their processing systems leave Sony in the rear). As a hobbyist, I'll probably stick with Sony since their prices beat out Canon and Nikon by far. Thanks for the response, and let me know if you have any experience with the a55!

  • 2:04 "Keep goin' until your finger gets tired."

    That's what she said!

  • i am a beginner and i am looking to buy an entry level dslr; but i am unsure for which one to go for as there as so many to choose from. I want great video e.g. for bikes and sports, action pictures, landscapes and value for money. My limit is £600 any suggestions. Should i go for the a33 or is it worth the extra cash for the a55 or canon's 500d or even 550d?

  • @DestroyBoys I hope you didn't go with the eos 500d or 550d because that would have been a mistake. It's old hat technology. The a33 and a55 is superior in so many ways. Canon and Nikon need to update their technology and start moving with the times.

  • If the electronic viewfinder works like the LCD, that's horrible.

On my a300 when using off camera flash and the live view LCD, it show's up dark because it the metering system thinks the manually entered exposure settings are too fast for available light, plus the camera doesn't get info from the flash units wirelessly.

Therefore, I am glad I have the glass optical viewfinder to actually look at the image I'm shooting...

  • If the electronic viewfinder works like the LCD, that's horrible.

When using off camera flash and the live view LCD, it show's up dark because it thinks the manually entered exposure settings aren't enough for available light, and doesn't get info from the flash units wirelessly.

  • my dear it is not a DSLR, according you your employers its an SLT camera.

you lost all credibility when you didnt know what kind of a camera you were using.

I agree with the previous poster, dont get a suit to talk to artist. keep the corporate drones for there uses, which are few.

Sony, artists will listen to people with passion. NOT people who dont have a passion in the area.

my A55 is arriving on monday, :) (vulgarities) lol

  • @thleeal Would love to here a review from you when you get yours and use it...seriously. i bet you're vid will blow most if not all videos on youtube out the water for this cam. pleaaaasseeeeee & Thank you lol

  • @thleeal she made the video when the a55 wasnt out yet, and that means that the name SLT wasnt invented yet. even now alot of online stores have the a55 under DSLR or under EVIL which is even more of an stretch.

so dont talk random pub noob.

  • that is shocking audio !!!

  • @blackstudios Grow the fuck up.

  • wow did you see the pop up flash its so misleading when its down but I think this is the camera for my 75mm 24-70 sigma lens! its so tall me likey! :)

  • I heard a lot about the EVF of this camera, & how evfs were going to replace ovfs. I looked at one and I really wanted to like it because of the features & that sony went with a better aproach to the v,dslr.

However I was shocked, the ovf is big & bright yes but it has nowhere near the detail/resolution of a pentaprism ovf & when you pan it all goes crazy in the viewfinder. I also found this camera too small and could not position my hands to reach the main controlls without shifting my grip

  • @Drinapropriatetouch one thing I like about EVF is that you can actually see what the final picture would look like. I used to use the Sony R1 Bridge camera. That came in really useful especially when shooting in dim light or sunset. I can't wait to see what Canon and Nikon can adopt from this technology and what Sony next iteration would be! Doing my best to no jump on this 1st gen.

  • @Mikenopolis Thats a good point but I don't know if its totally true, Im not convinced that what you see in the viewfinder will actually be exactly the same as a finished image, It might be close but I'll have to test it and see for myself particularly in terms of white balance and tonal range.

  • @Drinapropriatetouch no, the EVF is not perfect and will not show the actual final image, but it is good at least estimating, I guess it's not really an issue for people with experience, but as a "ShutterBug" I find it useful. I still do like OVF better, clearer, crisper, less battery drain

  • kainosktisi wins.

  • We don't need anyone telling us about the camera - we need samples from it.

  • Hi! I had brought this lovely camera. However when recording video, it seems to overheat very fast. Is there anyway to prevent it from overheating so fast?

  • How much is this in £'s??

  • @Ponyriider 700 according to amazon

  • @americanidiot2921992 Oh.. Oh ok thanks:(

  • All she's doing is reiterating the tech specs...they should have had a professorial photographer talk about the camera. Yeah we know the camera's great, what we need is someone who could show us how cool it is beyond whats in the manual. Such a typical saleswomen...

  • @TokyoNerd LOL True

  • @TokyoNerd no kidding eh? like the shit about being in a crowd?! that's not how you'd use the screen!

  • @TokyoNerd That's exactly what frustrates me about these videos. I'm not rich enough to buy these things on a whim, so I have to wait until a true (and honest) pro gets one and runs all kinds of tests on it. And very few people talk about digital noise which is a huge cancer with the earlier Alphas.

  • @datsridiculous

Yeah. One thing that bugs me is the fact you have all these people with (what seems to be) pretty much every camera on the market, and they never use them.

  • @TokyoNerd Then nothing will get sold because then they gonna tell you the flaws.... lol

  • @TokyoNerd I agree. One of the biggest things that frustrated me with this video is the audio on her voice. She shouldnt phase in and out. Plus, she got a few facts wrong. It's not ONE OF Sony's first cameras to shoot Full HD....it IS the first lol. Also, she should have said how it does it, because DSLR users will be highly skeptical on how it actually works. For those who dont know, the A55 uses a translucent mirror that allows the image to hit both the image sensor AND the auto-focus sensor.

  • Dear Santa...

  • guys which is better this camera or canon 50d?thanks

  • @1409striker12 The 50D is two years old by now, but it's still an excellent camera that handles superbly. The Sony is newer of course and has lots of features the 50D lacks (e. g. you can't record videos e.g. with the Canon). Still it all comes down to your personal preferences. I'd say the 50D may be better if you strictly want to take photos, the Sony if you want a more modern camera with more features. Lastly there is no objectively 'better' camera, both are great.

  • fantastic explanation and great music, Thank you.

  • While it shoots video, does the camera produce

loud noise of AF sound? loud enough to be recorded in the

    video?

  • Nice Hands On thx

  • What camera was used to film this?

  • need to get me one of those

  • pst Nikon FTW

  • @samoseley Nikon sensor's are made by Sony...

  • @Nunofos and that just means that they make good sensors not good cameras

  • @samoseley Zeiss, the World's greatest glass maker, doesn't think the same thing.

Zeiss only made AF lenses for Sony...

  • @Nunofos So how does that have to do with anything? We are talking about the camera not the lenses

  • @samoseley uhm..without a sensor, you can't take a picture...same thing with lens. i don't get your point.

  • @kainosktisi51902 We are talking about the camera in general.

  • @samoseley a sensor may not define the camera, but what else could? the body? it's not as important as the sensor, the sensor is by far the most important factor in determining image quality, colors, etc. sure, it's not the only important part, but it is the most important..what else could be more important?

  • @kainosktisi51902 The features that is has the control settings, many more settings to customize it to be yours and how you want it to be.

  • @samoseley sure, but you can't define a camera based on control settings alone.

  • @samoseley as boxxyfan said, the lens is one of the most important part of the camera, and according to him the defining factor. and i agree that it is very important in defining a camera. it's gotta say something about a camera-maker when zeiss only makes lenses for that company doesn't it? what does control settings play in the part of making an image? you can make an image without specific controls. they're not important.

  • @kainosktisi51902 The fucking glass that sits infront of it? The eye of the camera.

  • @BoxxyFan yes the glass is important. doesn't mean the sensor is not.

  • @kainosktisi51902 You are wrong. The sensor is less important. The body that houses the sensor is 'upgradeable'. Whenever you buy a new body that's released to replace your current body, you'll get a better sensor with newer technology. How often do you 'upgrade' quality glass? Never.

  • @BoxxyFan exactly. since when did nikon have zeiss glass? the OP is saying that zeiss is making glass for sony alone. someone is saying that the lenses don't make a camera...i'm saying it DOES and so does the sensor, which in nikon's case is made by SONY. i don't think you know what i'm saying...

  • @BoxxyFan nvm, i see which post you are replying. i got confused there. but yes, as i said..glass is important, but so is the sensor. can't make a photo without either. yes you can upgrade your sensor, but in a way you can do that with glass too, if you're not using good glass already.
