  • Fr'awesome!

  • that was actually me cawing, when do I get my cut?

  • realy nice

  • I discovered Nataly when I was searching for the Peter Gabriel version of Book Of Love, and absolutely loved her voice. This song is also fantastic. Not sure if you wrote it together, or only one of you did, but regardless - you both have absolute talent, and I really hope you go far with this. There's SO much trash out there in musicland - you would be a fresh and VERY welcome antidote.

  • it's a crime that this still has under 1,000,000 views

  • Great original and Great recording!

  • very cliche! but i gotta say, its great! original. some thing i'd put on my ipod!

  • The more I listen, the less I feel any sign of despair in me. You are talented for creating unique atmospheres through your songs! :)

  • @bedolezal01 Thanks... Is the EP not available for purchase?

  • @dnatheory go to their Myterriblefriend channel there is a link to myspace, and there you have the itunes link of this song. or go directly to the myterriblefriend myspacesite, I cannot put the link here, I always get an error, sry

  • I love this song - I can listen to it nearly endlessly on repeat. I bought Lauren's whole collection a couple months ago, though, and this song wasn't on it, and I can't seem to find the mp3 on her site. Am I missing something, or is it not there? Where do I go to buy this amazing song?

  • @dnatheory This is one of a handful of songs that are a part of a collaboration project between Nataly and Lauren called My Terrible Friend. The EP is called Room for Ghosts.

  • How is there so much rubbish on the radio with talentless people, and stuff like this is not getting played, who has trashed our world of music, these girls are fantastic

  • This song calms my turbulent soul. Thank you.

  • brividi...complimenti *-*

  • I noticed today that this song is the most played on my itunes. I'm perfectly happy about this.

  • this is great

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • I think I just fell in love with both of you...

  • I cannot find this song for purchase at the myspace page linked above. Am I overlooking it or did they take it down? And if so, why? I'd pay $5 for this song alone.

  • I like the honesty in your music, its refreshing and inspirational! Thank you for this.

  • That was so beautiful!

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • I love when the bird caws. It's like it was meant to be part of the song.

  • @unklewink I think they where :)

  • Speechless.............. La magia de la musica en el corazon..... You guys did an excelent job..... So much so that now my heart longs to hear more....... Me rovaron el alma.......

  • Who could dislike this song?? Hell I listen to everything from black metal, dubstep and blue grass... This is good music!! So much soul! Both of these girls are AWESOME!!

  • As far as the meaning behind this song, as I interpret it, I will keep it simple. Start with the title: The Daylight Here. Daylight -- not darkness. The message I get is, 'Nothing is really wrong; Somehow, I just don't belong'.

  • Lauren is amazing. Watching her body language and facial expressions, it's like she's singing the song in the moment from the heart, without it being pre-written. It makes her performances so real and riveting.

  • WOW!

  • GOOD LORD THAT WAS BOSS :O

  • Dear reader: I have just posted a lot of posts that are to be read as one post due to the single-post character limit. In case you are reading top down, Please go to the bottom of my post and read up. Thanks Mr. Toad

(the following is the last part of my post , to be read last.)

The conclusion has the totality of the instrumentation quickly dropping off leaving the haunting sounds of a chord being bowed on a banjo, as if her soul is now free and adrift in the wind . Stunningly effective!

  • @Me2Old Hey, do you write a blog on music, because I would be very interested in reading it. Your review was fair, descriptive, and professional. It's nice to see appreciators of art like you around.

  • Arrangement: The simple plucks of a banjo provides the timing and chord structure to the opening vocal. The banjo’s notes have quick attack and quick decay, while the vocal sustains through, providing continuity. As the song evolves before us, the bass, accompaniments, violin, and bowed banjo are added in turn to steadily build to an enrapturment . The feelings are clear as we struggle to understand the words.

  • With the listener fully entranced, the accompanying vocals add velvet smooth ribbons of beauty to form the bars of the acoustic snare. Like the party guest captured by the ancient mariner’s gaze, and forced to hear the tale of the Albatross, we too must stay and listen to the tale of this angle.

  • Vocals: Beginning with a single meek voice that validates the honesty of the message, we take notice. It is not the power voice of a professional studio singer. It is not attempting to awe us with it’s range or dynamics. It is a simple voice that does not demand to be heard, but rather stealthily entwines the soul of the singer and listener with strands of deep felt truth until there is no escape.

  • Instrumentation: The use of acoustical instruments greatly enhances the sincerity of the message. The novel inclusion of a bowed banjo’s sustained chords multiplies the haunting sensation of sorrow as all the other instruments wind down at the conclusion. The lack of percussions allows the tenderness of the musical assembly to be delivered to the heart uninterrupted. The acoustic bass is perfect for setting the timing and linking the chord changes without attempting to intrude on the message.

  • I suspects that that she senses that: in the after-death-infinity that lies before her, she will have settled feelings and complete understanding. I site the third verse that implies that her fate may not be his vault, but the will of God. Whatever, she is now, for all eternity bound to the person that shares her same fate. They have a common bond. She will be thinking of him, now and forever.

  • The second verse adds more evidence with the image of fading from daylight to dark. The chorus promotes two possible destinations for ghosts. There are several other lines that I feel support my interpretation. However, the more important part is why is she dying. I cannot get away from the thought that someone she has loved has given her AIDs. As evidence I sight the last line of the first verse. She is torn between anger, love and it doesn’t matter anymore.

  • Words: First let me apologize to all who have heard the words and have correctly interpreted them. I got many a "C" in college with Bob Dylan papers. The references to ghosts have been taken figuratively to refer to various things. I guess I am too literal to be that deep a thinker. I tend to take her at her word. I think she is preparing for death. As evidence I site the first verse. Most people on their initial confrontation with their own death, think of their family. Mr Toad

  • goosebumps ruin just shaved legs!! this song is beautiful

  • My G_d, that was beautiful.

  • I've listened to this song hundreds of times, no lie, and I know the lyrics off by heart. Once I read this guy's comment on this song, he said he couldn't stop crying, I was confused. But I was recently in a long distance relationship and I got dumped due to the distance, I'm considering moving away to start a new life and move on and all that jazz, but now I finally get the song, "Whichever coast, they'll be room left for ghosts, either way, I'll be thinking of you" It's sad, but true. <3

  • My Lordie girl. I was looking for the Ralph Stanley version of "O Death" and stumbled on your cover and it was all.....well......Awesome!! You have won another fan. Thank you.

  • one of my favorite songs

  • This music was ripped from Kerosene Hat by Cracker

  • @VeeDubR32 You are so right. That's the same tune. I hope they give Cracker credit for that part.

  • ....sometimes when there is no answer... leaving is the answer.

And if you have to go somewhere and breathe new air...so be it...

    ........Love the Lyrics, Miss O'Connell....

  • why doesn't she sings and play at the same time? i know she can do that!... ???

  • @Shornaidaida 'Course she can. But she is recording them separately to get the full effect.

  • @Shornaidaida she may have done that to have track control during production.

  • Ok, it's been about 3 hours, still listening, damn.

  • @eXpoCoD I know what you mean, for 4 days now I keep coming back to YouTube and getting lost for hours at a time listening to the various combos of Nataly and Lauren's music.

  • Dear god. That was amazing, just...wow.

  • Lauren will you be my girlfriend?

  • This song is amazing.

  • Found this via MS Oconnell's page, which I found via MS Nunes' page. And then I was like, "wow its that pretty lady from the car commercials!!"

  • the harmony construction and voices remind me a lot of the late, great Kirsty MacColl, Electric Landlady-era. Great work and continued creativity you are doing..

  • A lot of Lauren O'Connell's music just makes you want to give her a hug, and say: "No, it never stop hurting entirely, but it gets better."

  • so effin deep. thx

  • 3:33 on sounds like a certain coldplay song I can't put my finger on it, either X&Y album or VLV album >.< oh yea... your awesome btw :D you are one of the few poetic singers left..

  • I heared this song day and night when I've left my family for university and went to another city far away. It's my little "Goodbye"-song and i love it. Thanks. Greetings from Germany.

  • She is violining the banjo! D:

  • i wish you would become world famous cause you guys definetly deserve it alot more than some justin bieber or many many others out there making compleatly worthless music unlike you. Still it could be also bad since then you maybe would have not the same freedom to do this kind of music and there might be someone who even would tell you what to do and that kind of stuff sucks the soul out of music.. well anyways good luck and i wish you guys the best!

  • you are crazy, girls! cool stuff!

  • beautiful voice .

  • when I listen to y'alls music, I don't feel hungry - how amazing is that? <3

  • You two need to get your womanly souls into Lilith Fair. I love the intense feel.

  • I really love your music!did you ever think of covering some townes van zandt?

  • Oh my goodness, I freaking adore you, Lauren and Jack. You guys totally inspire me to keep on truckin. Also the bow on the banjo is soooo epic! LOVE the creativity and musicianship.

  • This song is so powerful, it's pure artistry and creativity. It's cliche to call it a 'hit' when that term equates it with the schlock of mainstream music, this is far above the thinness of what passes for good music day in day out, this is timelessness and a song rich in heart and life.

  • Oh my god.

    I just....

    I...

    Wow...

This has LITERALLY become one of my favorite songs that I have ever heard. I'm a full grown adult, and I cried because this was so beautiful...

    Thank you. Both of you.

    <3

  • Yup it's awesome girls.... Great job. Can't wait for more.

  • so so so so so so os so so so so so so so so so so so so wonderful

  • I won't lie; this is seriously one of the most beautiful songs I've ever listened to. And the "organic" sounds in the background definitely played a very helpful roll in the song. Amazing work.

  • Y'all freakin' rock! Do more! Do more! Do more! I love it. It's so good to see raw unaffected emotion expelled as sweet sorrowful song. This is one of my favorite purposes of music, to make us feel better about feeling bad. Please take this as a compliment: When I heard this I told my boyfriend "I hope someone breaks those poor girls hearts so they write lots more soul haunting music." Beauty.

PS. sorry i didnt say this first but...awesome song!

  • its so nice to hear new raw music like this, im so tired of the bubble gum pop music! Keep it up girls, totally awesome

  • Gotta love the musicians that put to music, the exact feelings and emotions you are unable to describe at a particular point in your own life.

  • I've never seen that done with a banjo. I guess I'm behind the times a bit. Cool.

  • very good.

  • sweet

  • This song is infectious, it is soul-meme, chocolate rain for the core of your being.

  • this is really good i love this song!!!

  • Beautiful songs continue to do. I listen to almost every day. Marcel from Switzerland

  • I like ...

  • someone should make up a new word to describe how talented you are...

  • Lauren O'Connell's music makes me want to live better.

  • @NorthStarCustoms Aww, that's so sweet x x I see what you mean though.

  • @NorthStarCustoms

I feel the same exact way when i listen to this

  • @NorthStarCustoms DUUUDE me too. I feel the same exact way!

  • Pretty song. The dark haired one looks like Kristen Stewart at 3:15.

  • I actually love this. I've had it on repeat since I found it. Lauren's voice is just <3 It's amazing :)

  • Wow, both of you are amazing.

    Keep singing.

  • I love it !

  • Great collab... Lauren O'Connell's voice is so meditating.

  • I love this version, but I really wish there was a version without all the "organic" elements and more instrumental elements.

  • How do you get such quality in your recordings? Do you just use the audio straight from the recordings?? I recently bought a soundboard but the recordings are quiet and I get a weird buzzing feedback in recordings, yours are so crisp. What do you use?

  • This may seem corny, but I love this simply because it's real; the entire thing, the song, the voices, the background sounds, the way it makes me feel... I can't stop playing it. I'm going to play it over and over, and over again until it becomes part of my bones and I can literally take it with me where-ever I go....

  • You have single-handedly changed my opinion of the banjo. Bravo.

  • my god. that is so beautiful. I always feel creatively inspired with Nataly and jack's works and this one too, and maybe more than most. A million times thank you for your skills and the richness of your spirits and great, great work Lauren. Wonderful song.

  • Was this at Julia Nunes' place?

  • Still as powerful as when i first saw it, come back east please.

  • ...beautiful

  • Sometimes, someone makes a song which sort of encompasses perfection: This is one of those songs.

  • Wow! You have a such a haunting voice! Very impressive!

  • Well, the vid & music started out a bit slow - and I had doubts about sticking around. But, I'm glad I did. This is a really great piece! Lauren - your voice is beautiful. And I love the melody.

  • Do You Guys Ever Blink!? O_O

  • Wow. Grandiose! =D Merci!
