  • Wow brings back the good times of splitting with my grandpa but we didn't have it this ez , if it wasn't for doing things like this with home I wouldn't be half the person I am now

  • Good idea.

  • great video,my family and i built one myself built loosely off this design. first log i we picked up was a 24 inch dia. solid blackjack. worked great

  • I know about bad backs especially after two surgeries. Your splitter is just what the Dr. ordered. Can you supply any rough dimensions about the pipe you used, the lengths of the vertical pieces the swing arm and finally the size of the cylinger and its stroke length?

    Thanks a lot,

    islandin maine

  • islandinmaine... The pipe is 5 1/2 ' X 5" OD thick wall. Swing arm is 5 1/2' X 2" X 4" X 1/4".

Lion Welded Hyd. Cyl. 3" bore / 18" stroke.

  • nicesplitter.......... I have to ask --why do you put the wedge on the cylinder?

  • Keeps the work in the work area, less energy spent dragging the wood back to the wedge for re-splitting. I prefer 2-way setups myself, like the Split-Fire.

  • @xIntoThePitx -- yes i see that . MIne splits at the end adn the wood self piles away from me and at the end of splitter. When the pile gets big the pusher just starts pushing it self back wards.

To answer your question, I think it makes the large pices easier to re position to resplit. Tried it the other way first about 25 years ago.

  • @jfdzachary -- good point about larger blocks ... your block are about our average normal size. I do alot of 3 ,4 and 5 foot blocks as well

    Awesome
