For such a light go kart I would switch the gears on the motor and wheel to opt for more speed. The way it is now takes many turns of the motor for one turn of the wheel, if you switch it then you can get many turns on the wheel for one turn of the motor thus much higher speeds. Unless the motor is weaker than i am thinking and has to be this way to make it go at all...
