  • Terrific, easily the best of the interviews. Amazing to think he'd be dead a month later. Ian is very candid here about his inspirations. Also interesting to hear how the grind of touring affected him so severely.

  • @MrGutley

Agreed. What interests me most is when he says that his songs are all about personal relations, which contradicts his previous interview about how all of his lyrics are open to interpretation. You know, what he did just a month later is all there, in his songs and in interviews like these.

  • i am in love with his voice! it sounded so different....incredibly sweet when he talked

  • Ian's alienation is quite striking here. He speaks almost as if he is outside observing life from a distance.

  • I've never heard Ian speak until now. thanks for putting this up.

  • Thanks for the upload. I porobably never would have heard such a fascinating interview if it weren't for you. Joy Division are probably my favourite band of all time so this invaluable.

  • @Tom93M

You're very welcome. They're my favorite band too. :D

  • great video !!! easily the most worthwhile of ians interviews, he makes it clear that the words are about peoples problems and how they deal with it, stopping short of saying they are his problems !!!!!!!! this seems to contradict his previous interview where he states the words are open to interpretation, also 'we are going to america........... were only going for two weeks' gives food for thought
