  • This blew my mind in Florida in April 1980.

Driving in the sun with the radio blaring.

Feel good music at it's best....and those vocals?

    Awesome and then some.

  • Wow! Over a million views over 30 years later. I hope some younger folks are listening to this and dancing to it like we did back then.

  • shalamar got a new bitch, her names micki free, and that bitch finer than a motherfucker.

  • This was the first song my Play-Mama Jean heard me singing... she was the first person to hear me sing. She died today, I will forever cherish THIS song!!!!! R.I. everlasting P. Mama Jean!!!

  • Saw Shalamar in concert @ San Mateo...they really do sing like this..even better than their record...wish they could get back together...RIP Don Cornelius..we love you always.

  • the youngsters will never understand this music. poor them!!!

  • @derrick521 Quite right.

  • Simply the best!!!

  • By the way, one more thing concerning this classic tune... I was on wikipedia looking up the information on this song. It had something on there about the three making a remix (long before 'Diddy' "invented" it!) of this for the then-World Champion Seattle Sonics (I guess that would've been for 1978-79. I'm sure 1979-80 was the beginning of the "Showtime" Lakers). "Sonics come around"? Or, "Sonics come to play"? Is that a fact? If so, I'd like to hear it. I could probably dig that real tough!

  • Wow. Never knew they had an official video for this classic tune. But after seeing the excellent late-70's "Soul Train" performance (the version that should be up on here, but, yeah, I do understand the legal issues around that, especially now with Brother Don's passing) on that "Hippest Trip in America" documentary again last night, I just had to come on here and look this song up to hear the entire joint. They had those moves on point, huh? Lol! This must've been the roller rink jam by the...

  • ...summer of 1980! And even though I wasn't there, unfortunately (only born in '83...yeah, sucks, huh?), I could just picture right now what Empire Blvd. looked like when the 1979-1980 school year ended in our good ol' County of Kings. The 80's had just begun, and summer was ON! Everybody had to hit that rink when this one came on the box. They would watch "Soul Train" at 11 (on Channel 11! :-)), then, hit Empire in the afternoon. Wow...must've been a great time in Brooklyn. Too bad I missed it.

  • Hell yea! Love jodys high pitched voice. It makes me feel awsome.

  • This is music of true.

  • Such a perfect sounds . . .

  • No mistaking Jody Watley's voice in there. I can close my eyes and see myself roller skating to that song with multicolored mirror ball lights decorating the floor. You don't hear music like this anymore.

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so awesome...I am a metalhead by and large today but this was the first record I ever bought - a 45rpm vinyl single of 'Second Time Around'. It still sounds every bit as sweet to me 32 years later. That is the mark of truly great music...timelessness.

    Thank you Unidisc

  • RIP Don Cornelius. There would be no Shalamar if not for Soul Train. Thank you sir.

  • anyone old enough to remember Jody and Jeffrey as dancers on Soul Train?

  • d wuevosssssss

  • I like that in the way they dance they're saying:

maybe who know's, the second time might be better than the first?

  • Oh yeah back in those days when evr'thing was alright...

  • Its funny how great R&B has evolved into crap rap

  • @bsheridan1000 There is still great R&B. Jill Scott, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson and many others.

  • Jody Watley baby

  • Now this song makes me happy

  • i remember all that fashion glitter back in the days!

  • 2:17 Sample Peep Thong by His Majesty André?

Proof that disco still rocks the scene.

  • They did a great job with the dancing in such a small space!....love the song

  • I'm getting married again to my '1st wife' after being divorced for 9 years........song really fits..god help me!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PERFECT.

  • the buisness - superb then and superb now

  • theirishinc, I'm black and I grew up in the 80s, and I totally agree with u. What u said is very true. Tell it like it is. Black music is ruined.

  • @michaeljackson1978 True enough! There has been great talent coming from black music and I wish more could come from those like you who would support a resurgence of music like this to return! It's quite entertaining and enjoyable!

  • música dançante, com ritmo contagiante.....

  • HOWARD HEWITT is a fantastic singer...almost as good as Luther

  • Music like this will never be made again. The days of great music are over, all you hear on the radio today is pure shit.

  • buena musiquita para bailar y escuchar tranquila, lo que dicen antes es cierto alguna musica ahora es muy mas de lo mismo, mucha violencia y sexo bien barato

  • Jody is still hot, proof that black don't crack!! LMAO.

  • Didn't even know Shalamar sang this song.. wow..awesome..

  • GREAT SONG.

  • I loved Shalamar. They were an awesome group. Even though I have seen that Unsung episode, and they didnt end so well, i still enjoy their music. I especially enjoyed watching Jody and Jeffrey dance. i watched them more than I watched Howard. They had some smooth well choreographed moves. Nowadays there are hardly any groups anymore.

  • Real R &B IS DEAD....!!

  • DAVE CHAPPELLE

  • fantasticoooooooooo.ok.ok.ok.kkkkkkk.

  • I have finally found a whole lotta REAL musicians! I feel like I hit the goldmine tonight.

  • d wuevotessssss

  • Too bad Miss Jody says she's moved on from Shalamar. I would've paid big money to see her reunite with Howard Hewett, and, Jeffrey Daniel, right, gang?

  • hi, hope u r all belonging to the long and noble tradition of the skate rollers from thev reagan era, rembember that this song bubbly teen poped us high.fabulous groove .

  • I love jamming with these songs with my kids...I'm doing everything in my power to make sure they come up on GREAT MUSIC.

  • Thank God my parents introduced me to real music I hate todays music bc its meaningless and it seem like love died right along when real music did smh

  • Roller Disco

  • One of the best songs ever recorded.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong; Was Jody Watley a part of Shalamar? If that's the case, why was she eligible to be Best New Artist in 1987? I don't understand that. Oh, by the way, Love the tune.

  • @kja427 yes it's Jody Watley...she won the award for her solo career.

  • black, white, Latina it didn't matter the race, they had talent, they could sing, and play instruments, and didn't need software programs to make them stars!!!

  • @katsrayoflight That's true! And the music tells it when you listen to the new stuff. I don't think it's being nostalgic to long for the old days like this. I think we just want something that sounds like skillful work in the music!

  • Classic music! Ain't no group these days can match the artistic talent and magic Shalamar created!

  • No los conocía mucho, pero son muy buenos. Me encanta el fanky.

  • they performed at my grad-night in cali at disneyland 1980

  • my mom played this tape day and night when i was little..i still remember those house parties she threw

  • One of my favorites from childhood.

  • ....ha-ha-ha...loving it!

  • Man, this just reminds of my momma...such good memories.

  • Truly a stellar performance, the lead and background vocals are heavenly. The two backup vocalists who were dancing really added a special dimension to the visual spectacle.

  • if you gotta ask, then you don't know

  • Soul Train Dancers who made it big. Had a big crush on Jeffrey Daniel, chocolate brotha with the fierce 'fro.

  • Ooo me and my boo in high school!

  • @ariellaserafina What is a boo? You dated a ghost?

  • proper music

  • Awesome song!

  • "Yes Indeed!"

  • How bout 4848 N Kenmore in Uptown back in the day!

  • This is Great Music

  • Thanks!

  • Nothing racial intended here...but much respect for black artists back in the day. Now they have gone and ruined music these days. It's a shame.

  • @theirishinc You are so right music today sucks

  • @theirishinc You see all those people on stage? It cost money to make a record, and it's the RECORD COMPANIES, not the artist, who decided to take the cheap way out by synthesizing (sp) everything. So don't blame the artists, blame the record companies for choosing to focus solely on profits rather than making quality music.

  • @theirishinc Agreed! The very same people who've given a lot of talent has changed it over time for the worst! Also, nothing racial here either! Just sayin'! Maybe there will be a revival they can bring back!

  • @theirishinc "Black Artists" didn't ruin anything. White Suburbia did. From the Corporations that pump out no-talent hacks, to the white kids that not only demand these wack-ass "artists," but also think rocking a flat-brimmed hat, tap-out gear, and tryna be from the hood is reality. That's exacly what and who ruined it.

  • @solo34 They didn't? Then explain to me why the last black artists I've ever seen or heard have a band and play instruments are Ice-T w/Body Count and Prince? Explain why blacks don't play instrument or have bands now? It's the corporations and white suburbia huh? They're the reason why blacks wont step up with a band and play instruments?

  • @theirishinc

Kesha, Lady Ga Ga are white idiot so they ruined White music, you are so racist and fascist

  • @theirishinc You can't beat good music with a stick.(Really Good Song) It has been 32 years since Second Time Around was released. 32 years before 1979 was 1947, and many of the Top 10 of that date were Country Western. Two artists were African American one being Mahalia Jackson, and the other Louis Jordan, that their music was good too. What did the old people think of our dance tunes. I embrace Swing, and the sound of the early 50s Perry Como, Patti Page, Four Freshman too.

  • @theirishinc I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. In the 70's and early 80's music be it black or white was SO much better. Now it's just talking, sorry, rapping about drugs, guns,, ho's and money. sad times indeed. :¬(

  • @theirishinc The Same Thing was said About Jazz, Blues & Disco.

  • @theirishinc it may not been intended but your statement is the exact definition of racist. It's true music suck, but let's not forget your Lady Gaga's, your Ke$has, your Britney Spears, and countless of others that have ruin music as well. It's a generation thing, not a racial thing...and you're a sad person to not figure this out before hand...

  • @TheLastPaladin777 That's what the 'nothing racial intended' disclaimer was for. For people like you who will cry bitch and moan and play the race card. The whole point is, is that black music back in the day used to be great. It was music, they played instruments and could sing. And only a idiot would listen to Britney, Kesha and Lady Gaga.

  • @theirishinc

All those women are white ASSHOLE and their music appeals to lame- ass whites like yourself.

  • @TheLastPaladin777 I agree with you that it sounded racist, like he was blaming bad music on black artists only while claiming such a comment could not be racist. Then he claims that you overreacted and that's why he had to say that nothing racial was intended before making his race comment. He's the real cry baby on this board for bringing up race when all he had to do was sit back, shut up and enjoy the song.

  • @theirishinc

    Oh, I agree with you.

I´m a brazilian white man in my 40´s.

I really prefer American Black Music of Motown/Stax of 60/70/early 80s.

  • @theirishinc Wow. That's the most pathetic backhanded compliment, ever. On the one hand you admire black artists from the past. Then you blame black artists for having "ruined music these days." Of course you thought to hide your racism by claiming, "nothing racial intended here." Well, you might not have intended to be racist but it still sounds racist to blame the decline of modern music on black people. (BTW, I don't think it has declined. You're just not hip enough to "dig it.")

  • @artsylovelylady

All those artists he mentioned ruining "Black Music" were white ironic ain't it!

You must learn to love again without the hurt of the past spilling over into your current relationship. Be the lady in waiting and God will send you a good man who loves Him and you. Listen to the message in the song.
