@majooismajor well a good portion of the settlements in canada are from england ;) go figure..... PS whoever said Belfast is in england, go have a Geography lesson
P.S.... I meant to say it was English soldiers that invented the game on a frozen lake when they were over here serving in canada :) .... I dont think its cold enough in England for lakes to freeze up :)
ice hockey wasn't really invented by anyone as stick games and sports are as old as man. However, though there is debate, the first findings of people playing hockey is in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada where students started playing the sport of Hurley on ice in the early 1800's. Hurley turned to Hockey as the years progressed. Also worth noting, many parts of Canada and myself included call informal hockey "shinny" which is said to derive from the word and Scottish sport Shinty. Look it up!
to clarify my use of the word "anyone". Egyptian carvings dating back 4000 years bear a resemblance to the game, as does prehistoric Irish hurling, among other versions throughout time. Its impossible to say who "invented the sport. The word "hockey" appears in the Galway Statutes of 1527 and supposedly "hockey" was banned in England in the Middle Ages as stated in the ever trusting Wikipedia.
Of course they play Hockey In England.. If you actually do your research on the sport; youll find it was English soldiers that invented the game when they decided to play hockey on a frozen lake in winter one day. OK fair enough its not one of the best leagues in the world but loads of the players that play over there are from Canada. A few players from the NHL also went over there during the lockout.. Brendan Witt and Eric Cairns were 2 of them so it cant be that bad, its about ECHL level.
cechmanek* was so horrible it was unreal. he played on some STACKED flyers teams, only reason why he put up the numbers he did with them. you throw him on the kings for one year, and he crashed and burned.
there's a reason why he never came back post-lockout; he's slow, has HORRIBLE technique, and couldn't handle a puck if it were a beachball.
the goalie in this video is as bad, maybe worse, than cechmanek. end of story.
Just so everyone gets it this was in Alberta not in britain LOL he played for i think a month dont qoute me on that and then he went back to calgary i think
Theo would have retired as a great player in the NHL if it weren't for his personal problems with drugs and alcohol. He wore out his welcome here in North America with most of the teams because of it.
But I have to say that the line of Nieuwendyk, Roberts and Fleury for Calgary was one of THE MOST dangerous 2-way playing lines that I have ever witnessed. In clutch situations, they could literally score at will. Simply amazing!! That line had it all.
And I, too, thrived most when fewer players were on the ice. Even if it meant our team had to be short-handed, at least there were fewer obstacles to restrain our speed and play making ability.
Nope, I never even played in the juniors or college. I quit because I began to have a sense that too much of my life and my psyche revolved around hockey, to an unhealthy extent.
Fleury is a legend. He's a huge reason why Canada won Olympic gold in the 2002. He had a great tournament, even though he had become a sideshow with the Rangers and his problems off the ice were becoming a distraction. You gotta give the man his dues. His number ought to be retired by the Flames. BTW, as the premier player in this league, Fleury shouldn't have had to fight any of those chumps.
Theo Fleury is the man and the flames should retire his jersey, i think that he should make a comeback and play for calgary maybe they could win a game on the road if he came back.
the U.K. sure loves theyre hockey! you could hear the theme song to "hockeynight in canada" at about 33 seconds in. even past his prime fleury schooled those fruits.
Definately too easy for him. I guess he was just there for the beer. He should try Germany next. (low blow, I know) Or maybe he was just craving stardom and he went somewhere that he knew he could get it. Sad, really. As long as that jackass stays out of North America.
Decking Oduya...You're having a laugh mate! Why do you only cut to the end of the first fight when they're standing up? why not show the bit before where Oduya is landing loads of punches. Also why didn't you show the second Theo vs Oduya fight? you know the one where Oduya kicked theo all over.

Theo Fleury is a historically amazing hockey player. I was a small, fast and feisty forward like him.
I am also an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a biomedical problem, not a problem of character.
