It really is disappointing that Tintin didn't get a nomination for the Oscars. If it was a nominee, it would literally flatten the others. I wish that the public could vote, although that would never happen *sigh*. Let's hope this film gets a second chance next year (somehow) or that the sequel(s) win one.  C'mon, Tintin!

This is what I'd thought the typical American view on Tintin was when the film was released. I found this on somebody's blog titled '5 Movies I Don't Want to Watch':

I actually really liked this movie. The animation was fabulous, the voice cast perfect, and the story incorporated other elements from Tintin's other adventures (The Golden Crab and the like...). It was a great adventure and I really enjoyed watching the movie. Snowy, of course, stole the show. :)

There's really nothing from Red Rackham's Treasure except at the very end of the movie, the whole movie is more like a set up for the Red Rackham's Treasure story, which has been changed completely, and it includes bits of The Crab with the Golden Claws to introduce Haddock - the whole movie is like an introduction to the characters - and over long action sequences.

Oddly, the ironic end of the RRT is included, so they have to change the story, but since they already changed this story I guess the next will be a combination of more than one as well - or maybe just drastically rewritten, with added content.

Ps. where the F. did the tank come from? Or ended up with the building on top? If that's some sort of a homage to some scene from the comics, then at least they could have done was giving it some proper context and logic. I dl'ed. the whole chase scene, 'cause I wondered, I thought maybe I had missed something, but it comes out of nowhere, right after they get down to the town. What's the bloody point with that tank? And why does one of the buildings collapse randomly (hit by the tank as well?)

I saw this today and just, wow. I haven't read any of the books or seen the cartoon but this movie was great, better than great, fantastic. The animation is top notch, better than Transformers. There was so much detail put into the characters. The voice actors did a great job with the characters, they felt like real people. The villain was also great, very sinister. There are a good amount of comedy bits which made me laugh a lot and the action was great.

My local theater complex in san francisco (the Metreon) poorly displayed this marvelous film...out of focus...image falling off to even more out of focus toward the right....and nobody with any skills to fix the problem. What a waste. Hugo in 3-D was absolutely pristine...and it was shown at Sundance Kabucki here in S.F.

Tintin is my childhood and I think it is amazing they're making a movie based on the comics. People need to realize that this movie is actually based on something so utterly magical.
