Maine Coons are terrific with toddlers ... playful, but careful not to upset the child. I also think they are the best choice if you are introducing a new cat into a household. I've done that twice. They figure out the other cats' boundaries and find a place for themselves without being wimp about it.. Smart and gentle.

I have a 6 year old Maine Coon. But, he's a shorthair. It's funny how they're so big and yet they have a tiny little meow. My cat, Gizmo tips the scales at 25 lbs and I don't think it's fat. I think he's just a big cat. He;s very tolerant too. My 1 year old nephew likes pulling his tail and Gizmo just lays there like " Whatever "

i just found out that my 8 year old commented on your video which is funny cos i just saw ur video for the 1st time & thought omg ur cat is just like my maine coons with my daughter at that age. My female cat was very protective of her & growled at strangers (& attacked dogs) who came near my baby, she still does this. My male would let my child run up and plop on him, he would just lay there. Maine Coons are amazing loving cats. Sorry if her comment was rude she didnt mean it in a bad way. : )

Main coons are the perfect cat for families with children (even very small children) they are well known for being affectionate and gentle despite their size. I have never personally seen any of my own three main coons "angry". Mellow to the extreme. And I love how big they can get, more cat to love!

You're probably right, but she does take time to hug the cat when he's on the stairs. She was only 10 months old at the time so I think her interactions are pretty normal. She still loves the cats!!

I'm so jealous that I didn't have a Maine Coon when I was that age :(. Such a cute toddler and cat! I have a Maine Coon as well that pretty much behaves, from what I've seen, like your cat! Patient and fun and huge :D. I'm pretty sure (and yes, I'm completely biased so I have very clouded judgement) that any other breed will fall completely inferior to Maine Coons because they're just about perfect in every aspect.

Maine's are probably the best cats to allow to play with younger children and toddlers, they are the most intelligent domestic breed and should be treated like that.

These cats do fine in the summer so I assume they would be OK in the mediterranean. My cats are great with babies. I don't let them in the room when the babies are in the crib, but even if they did get in, they wouldn't hurt the baby. Just go to the breeder and see the personalities of the cat's parents, and spend time with the kitten and see if they are aggressive or shy and stay away from them. A playful, purring kitten would be a good choice. Good luck!!

In hot weather they shed their warm undercoat. The long guard hairs actually help keep them cooler. Besides, I've never heard of a cat that can be TOO warm.

My maine coon doesn't play around. He's a VERY friendly cat (or should I say needy), but there's two things he hates. Dogs and being touched in certain areas (on his side, tail, belly, lower back). He's already scratched my two year old nephew twice. And my golden retriever, he gets scratched daily. I wouldn't trade him for anything though, and will be getting another MC when he dies.

My cat Bones is only part Maine Coon (1/2 to be exact and weighing only 13 lbs), but he has that same gentle disposition. He is one of the most patient animals I have ever known. I'm not suprised at all that this cat is good with the baby.
