Not a real motorbike. The two women are hiding behind the assistant in blue. It's this assistant that gathers up the paper/illusonary motorbike and stuffs it under his cloak, which you can see him adjusting as the blanket's taken away.

It isn't so much the illusion itself but the delivery. He exudes this confidence in the illusion. His mannerism is like, "I know what I'm doing and you WILL know this is AWESOME!"

i completely agree with that..

but most illisions are just based around the magician doing something un related (like talking to audience or saying something) to throw the audience off of there focus on whats really going on. David cooperfield does this nicely

Of course, the fog at the unveiling helps hide any clue of where the bike dropped.

Also, watch how wide David walks behind the bike.  Unnecessary, except he is walking around panel that just dropped the bike.

He does this illusion very quickly so that you can't make actual depth perception of the transformation. Obviously the girls pose in the image of the bike and then change their pose. My opinion again.

Notice the camera angle and how he drapes the cloth in a place where the bike really wasn't. Once the cloth is held up, the switch is made as the panels in the floor rotate the bike underground and the girls above ground. That's my opinion.

MFrymus--I'm assuming you know basically how its done and want to make it part of your stage act? I could be wrong but I think most stage magicians work this kind of stuff out on their own by procuring the necessary equipment and then building everything they need by hand. There are a few websites that cater to stage illusionists.

@Snootwaller Thanks for the offer but I'm no stage magician, just a fan. I have heard of places that specialize in stage illusions, there are some online that offer all manner of stage gear. I do appreciate the guys that Copperfield that undergo such great engineering to create "grand illusions" like this one, that's why I uploaded it. You don't have to know how the trick is done to get a feeling for what incredible preparation such an effect must require.

I figured this illusion out many years ago after watching it many many times. It's utterly simple. There's really nothing to build. All you need are a few (that's right) a few girls. And one very special piece of equipment cut in sort of a triangular, rectangular shape to match where a shadow would be, the direction it would go. Of course, you could never perform this on stage or put it in your act. It's a made for camera only effect.

I, like you, watched it for "entertainment" the first 5 times. But then, like you, I had to know. So I watched it another 50 times. For this one, being that there is no box, you truly have to think "outside the box."
