i kinda hate the (lets say new gen) from china (ma long, hao shuai, chen qi) they have no spice on their game... mizutani is much more pleasent to watch..even baum is better in that aspect... but they are so danm eficient, ma long is ranked 3rd!
I think the "new generation" is very promising. Mizutani may be more "fun" to watch, but he doesn't have the power and the precision of these chinese guys. Chinese players have more strategy, more power and speed and more consistent. (I wouldn't say unbeatable though) Waldner proved that.....
sure, but compare wang hao, ma long and hao shuai with, boll, mizutani or samsonov. the chinese are far more efficient, but they lack the touch of it. it happened in the past (waldner vs liu) and for sure it will happen in the future.
RPB doesn't actually suck..... Wang Hao, Ma Lin, all top players with the RPB stroke. Ryu, no RPB, lost to Wang Hao, Lost to Ma Lin..... the original penhold grip is too inconvenient, no doubt traditional.....
Joo Se Hyuk is the msot consistent, has most backspin, the best defence, and the most stable footwork amongst the choppers I've seen. Hou is more offensive, more topspin rallies, but he's quite good. Chen is very inconsistent, too unstable and doesn't have the defence as good as Joo.
its really hard to make sure, but one of my coach said that(i am not a strong player lol)defender have to use more stamina and should be very fast and agile.
No, they train less harder if they are pure choppers. However, if they want chopper backhand and attacker forehand, then they have a lot of work to do
Most defenders use long pips on their backhand and smooth inverted rubber on their forehand so they can attack. Often times they will flip their paddle when they see an opportunity to attack on their backhand.
Hou Yingchao is a little unconventional and uses smooth inverted rubber as forehand and SHORT pips on his backhand. This explains his long fluid follow-through with his chops on his backhand.
Yes, on the backhand. He used it because he was affected much by the style of another very successful defender, Ding Song. Originally he used smooth rubber on both sides.

more strategy? i dont agree on that aspect.
MeckelBot 3 years ago
Well, a lot of people might not agree with me on that, but they're game is more complex somewhat.
taufoofar 3 years ago
juz beccause you don't see it, doesn't mean that there aren't strategies

if you understood chinese, the commentaries during chinese games are often spot on and quite good.

Joo Se Huyk is NOT the best chopper in the world.

Oops I meant statistically, Joo is the highest ranking chopper in the world. "Best" is relative. My bad.

actually,most world class defender use pimple out..joo see hyuk,matsushita koji,chen weixing,gionis from greek..a lot more ..

@padiltimo
Hou is almost more of an all -a-round player than a modern defender-he fishes, sidespin loops, backhand kills. Most defenders do not do this.
