  • Beautiful. I literally have all the same fish in my 55.

  • did u see your ph levels go up noticeably when you put the sand in? did it help alot whats your review on it? im asking because im thinking about getting some to raise my ph levels.

  • great and beautiful setup , congratulations

  • where do you get thoes rocks

  • 0:15 the pink fish bites the blue fish

Blue fish - "who the hell just bit me"

  • what size of tank

  • Fishies!

  • Do you buffer your water with anything, or just the sand?

  • @vanished88 Just the sand.

  • hey, where can i get rocks like that? ive been looking everywhere

  • great looking tank!!! fish looks good. what kind of filtration are you using. im currently working on my tank.

  • I really enjoy your work with the rocks. This summer I am going to begin the process of putting together a 75 gallon community tank with some kribensis, cockatoo, and yellow dwarf cichlids as well as some other non-cichlids. I'm hoping to work some river rock in a similar manner. (: Excited to see that it is doable.

  • can you pleas check out my tank i'm new to fish kepping and i want some tips watch?v=Vh8G-oTdwPY

  • how often do you change water ? does the water get dirty ?

  • love the tank m8 check mine out ?

  • very nice hard work pays off!

  • i have always been contimplating on weather or not i should have gravel or sand for my fish tank. i currently have gravel.. because i herd that sand is a pain in the ass to clean and maintain. what do you think about it? and how would i change from gravel to sand with out any problems?

  • @Michael7klufas6 I had sand but got rid of it because it's hard to clean and gets into the filter. I changed my sand out for crushed corral which also helps raise the ph level suitable for Cichlids.

  • love the tank kid fucking sweet, making a 12ft x 4ft x 4ft, and plan to a rock and plant set up similar to urs, really sweet mixture and colours of fish

  • how big is the tank

  • hey, great tank, could you please tell me how big it is?

  • hey cld you please help me figure this out im wanting to get a 75 gallon african cichlid tank i want these fish but can you tell me if thats to many in if you think it would work thanks 1 albino peacock 1 blue peacock 1 yellow peacock 3 johanni 2 bumble bee 2 blue colbalt 3 demasoni 1 electric blue 2 electric yellow labs 2 kenyi 3 mbuna 2 orange leleupi 1orange peacock cichlid 1 red peacock 2 venustus 2 tretocephalus 2 red zebra n 3 moorei 2 frontosa and 2 fuelleborni marmalade

  • Great rockwork/tank. But, get those ugly fake plants out of there.

  • where do u get rocks to put in your aqurium

  • why wud anyone dislike this video?

  • Did you lean the rock pile on the back of the tank?

  • uhhh this tanks the shit

  • awesome! love your setup

  • you have a lot of weight on that glass bottom tank, i'd be too weary of that.

  • very cool tank dude.

  • where did u get the large river rocks? and what kind of sand is it your using?

  • Amazing tank and the music is perfect!!!! I'm loving it!

  • Love the sand and rock work.

  • nice tank check out mine

  • Very nice setup.

I have just done one yesterday. a cichlid tank, its 142g. i used limestone rocks, though i like the smooth rocks better, but because i used black sand, need the limestone rocks for ph. I have 16 electric yellows, 2 electric blues, 2 blue zebras. What fish are in here? How is the aggression?

    Thanks for sharing :)

  • how long did it take them to get that big or did u buy them that size?

  • put some better fish in there

  • your fishes look exactly like mine

  • your fishes look exactly like mine

  • Great job w/ the rocks. I do mine nearly the same way. Yours are pretty close to the surface. Getting them that high is correct. Im trying to get mine at surface safely w/o collapse. Great Job

  • It takes a while to place the rocks in there to get them that high and have the stack stable. Just make sure to set the bottom rocks close to the bottom. I made the mistake once of setting the bottom rocks just on the substrate and then when the cichlids started digging, they dug underneath the rocks and started shifting the pile.

  • That is something I didn't even consider, and I spent a lot of time setting up my limestone pile as well..... Guess I'm about to get my hands wet.... lolol glad I saw that tip though, great tank too. I like the round rocks.

  • mines like that!!! dont look as good as yours though lol ;(

  • can i use pool sand

  • Yes, pool sand works fine, just make sure to rinse it well. I used play sand in my 150 gallon and it worked fine, just took a lot of rinsing. The sand in this tank is buffered to help keep the pH up, but it wasn't cheap.

  • Comment removed

  • make more im sunscribing and add me as a friend

  • looks so clean and natural! good work mate!

  • Nice tank! Very, very bad choice of music. But very nice looking tank and hey I have a mute button whne I want to look at your tank.

    Cheers

  • Haha, thanks, and I love the part about the mute button. I am going to change the music though, I am not crazy about it, wife liked the song a couple years ago, but I am sick of hearing more about the music than the subject of the video.

  • Great tank set up. Love how they have so many places to hide. Healthy looking tank.

  • I wouldnt put a new world cichlid with a african. Go with more Newworld cichlida. They have a bigger selection and more colorful

  • DUMP THE MUSIC.......

  • If you don't like it, move on, I'm not going to change the music just because some wanna be thug dosen't like it. Why don't you go make more ass videos and stop trolling mine.

  • is convict african cichlid?

  • No a Convict cichlid is a Central American cichlid.

  • good fish tank set up

  • i love how you made the rock formation for the fish to take shelter. excellent

  • Finally the one with similar kind of fishes that i have.. Just wanted to know that do you also face problem with Auratus's aggression. My Auratus fish go after other fishes like crazy, but thanks to densed rock formation. My fishes get lots of hidding space. I have them for last 6 months with no casualties. Check out my video response to this!! And let me know about your Auratus behaviour.

  • I Have A Bass With A Personality Of a Cichlid Its Awsome

  • Nice fish. Gay song.

  • ahjahahaha so much gay song

  • Nice tank with great concpt,.

Get Hairgrass for foreground and Java Moss to cover the rocks.

Tell me the condition of Algea specially unde the Rocks

  • no java moss would be a bad idea because if he (or she) has any mbunas, thetll graze off it

  • can anyone tell me the name of this fish at 16 seconds in the bottom right corner?

  • Melanochromis auratus

  • nice. do you still have your tank? how big did they all grow?

  • Yes, I still have the tank, it is the only one I have right now (I got rid of the rest when I moved and haven't set any more up). They have all gotten pretty big, have had to reduce the population a bit. I will try to get a new video up one of these days.

  • hey i like yout tank but did you buy those rocks or did you find them naturally?

  • naturally im sure...just find a local creek and you will find rocks like that...

  • thats what i did check it out i made a vid

  • I have a 55g that's cycled. Just wondering how many cichlids I should/can add at one time? Thanx.

  • I would start with 4 or 5 at first, give it some time, keep checking water parameters and then add another 5 in a week or two, when you add the new cichlids preforme a water change and move stuff around in the tank to throw off any territories established.

  • Il try that, thanks

  • hey awesome tank. what are some good products to keep the ph constant?

  • I stay away from any of the pH chemicals sold that raise or lower the pH, it is a loosing battle. The substrate I have helps to keep the pH a little higher naturally, also crushed coral in a media bag in you filter will raise you pH naturally.

  • wow i like the wall looks great i wanna do something like that in my tank

  • what do you do if you end up with more than one male of a species? will it be alright?

  • Well some of the speices is dimorphic (males and females look different) and some are monomorphic (males and females look the same), so it is very hare to know sometimes if they are males or females. If you are having aggression issues you may have to take a fish back, or you can try creating more hiding spaces for them.

  • so if i end up with more than one male i just add more hiding places?

  • sexy tank, mang.

  • how does he keep the substate so clean

  • I use a hose and when doing water changes I suck the waste from the surface (it is lighter than the sand), you will suck up some sand at the same time, but with a little practice it won't be much.

  • Very nice, very nice.

  • Thanks.

  • I have a 30 gallon can you tell me what type of cichlids I can get?

  • africhan cichlid

  • For a 30 gallon You could have a couple Mbunas or you could have a nice community of shell dwellers. Other than that you could do some dwarf cichlids from South/Central America.

  • wow thats an amazing set up you got there, nice work

  • Thanks.

  • yeah, ive seen the vid before. and i know glass is crazy strong. i guess i shouldnt worry. i tend to do that a LOT with the aquarium.LOL

    thanks, NICE AQUARIUM

  • Lol, I was the same way when I first started putting the rocks in, but have since gotten over it. Just make sure to keep a thin layer of sand between the glass and rocks, this will keep from having the indevidual sand grains caught directly between the rocks and the glass. Not saying it would break the glass, but it may scratch up the bottom (whitch isn't the end of the world, but avoidable).

Take care and thanks for watching.

  • do you have any egg crate under the sand? i have cichlids and want to put rocks in my aquarium like yours. but i heard that you have to have egg crate on the bottom of the aquarium if you have sand because the weight of the rocks on the sand will break the glass.

supposedly, the individual grains of sand puts pressure points on the bottom of the aquarium. and the addition of rocks will crack the glass.

  • nope, no egg crate or any "padding" under the rocks, I leave about a quarter inch of sand under the rocks when placed on the bottom, this leaves a little cushion between the glass and the rocks, and will not allow the fish to dig under the bottom rocks. I have had this setup for some time now and have never had a problem, I also know a lot of people that also have rocks in their setup and don't use and padding. I think people underestimate the strength of the glass.

  • If you want to see an example of how strong tank glass is, go into my favorites and click on the video called (Tempered Glass Aquarium), it is a guy who demonstrates how strong they really are, after seeing that video made me never worry about the rocks in my tank again.

  • nice set up.how big is the tank bro

  • Thanks, 75 gallon.

  • How is the sand? Do the fish like it? Do you have to constanly stir it around and do you have to remove the rocks everytime you stir the rocks? is it easy to clean?

  • I love the sand, the fish like it too because they like to dig. I don't have to stir it that much maybe about every 3rd or 4th cleaning, and that is just to get any waste that has gotten burried. This sand dose not compact like play sand (which you have to stir more frequently). I only remove the rocks every 6 weeks or so, and that is just to get the waste that I can't reach with them there. I do water changes every week to week and a half though. I think it is easier to clean than gravel.

  • Your tank has inspired to start my own Cichlid tank. Thank you for posting your video and thanks for the helpful comments. On that note-- what type of sand and filter should I use for a new Cichlid 55 gallon tank? Also, did you use a barrier of some sort to support the rocks at the bottom of your tank?

  • Well I'm glad I inspired you to start your own tank, it is a great hobbie and I really enjoy having them.

I will send you a personal message on here and give you a few tips and some advise.

  • hello i justr started my african tank i have a 110 gallon tank with about 10 fish in it but i want to put more stuff like the rocks u have could you tell me where you got those they do not sell them in my local fish store?

  • I would check your local landscape supply store, my rocks were originally landscaping decor, so I would check there for the best price. I have found stones at my LFS but they are way over priced, i would not reccomend buying them from from the pet stores unless the price is right.

  • Where'd you get the sand?

  • I got this sand at a local fish store, it is a special African cichlid sand, it is buffered and helps to keep a higher pH.

  • I've been told that it's best not to adjust the pH because consistency is more important and a fluctuating pH will do more harm than good. Do you find it easy to maintain a higher pH and if you do monitor it does it change frequently?

  • When I first started keeping these fish I tried to maintain a high pH, but when you try that (specially with the pH up chemicals in the store) it will cause the pH to fluctuate drasticly and quickly. Using the sand that buffers the water helps to keep it higher than normal, and it is stable, but it dose not keep it as high as it really should.

  • My pH is about 7.6, and before it was around 7.0 - 7.2, I could add some crushed coral in a media bag to the filter and it would help to raise it naturally and keep it stable, but the fish are healthy and doing great so I haven't messed with it.

  • How many cichlids do you have here?

  • Back then I had about 25 maybe a few more, now I have about 15 or so in the same tank.

  • I know.

Its kind of like a curese lol.

You want these, then you get them. Now you want those. Then you get those. And now you wont this. Its fun, but overwhelming at times!

Anywho, your tank inspired me to do river rock in cichlid tank. Great Job!

  • Cool tank...now I want more fish...AGAIN!!!

  • Lol, it is a great hobby, but at the same time it sucks because you are never "done".

  • hi, how big is your tank. the rocks make it look smaller . but they could be large rocks. just asking because i have same types of rocks, but they aer small. love your tank, and that you reply to most of the comments.

  • Hey, the tank is a 75 gallon, the botom dimentions are 48" x 18". They are pretty large rocks, because of them and the displacement, it only has probably 60 - 65 gallons of water actually in it.

  • hi there, the sand looks really great..cool sand!!! and your cichlids too are gorgeous..pls dont get offended, your tank looks really great, just wondering whether it will look even better with only the same kind of rocks, because in nature 2 types of rocks cannot be found at the same spot along the riverbank, i mean if you're creating a natural style of environment for your tank:-)pls tell me your opinion, thx!!looking forward:-0

  • I'm not offended by your observation at all. The rocks I have in there I found for free, that is why they are all different types of stone. I do not have a lot of money to spend on rocks right now, or else your idea of all the same type would be great. They are mainly in there for hiding for the fish, they look ok, but they serve their perpous. I'm glad you like the tank though and hope you enjoy the videos. Hopefully I will get a little time here soon and will post an update on this tank.

  • how do you get them to be peacful and not eat each other? any tips?

  • I found that it helps to have the rocks, it gives them areas to hide and allowes them to create their own little territories.

  • I love this video because it's inspiring for me to stop procrastinating and to start my own Cichlid tank. I love your Cichilds :)

  • Thanks, this video is from 11-07, it is still setup and doing great, I will have to update the video here soon. Glad it is inspiring to you though, I hope you do start your own, it is so peaceful to watch them, and my little daughter loves them too.

  • That looks great! I just started my African Cichlid tank - soon I will post up a video. :)

  • well i live near a golf course and theres madd openings, and theres alot of lakes there. but we usually get chased out...but not on rainy days

  • I found my rocks, they were actually landscape decoration somewhere but they didn't miss the few I took. I cleaned them well before I put them in the tank though.

    It's a 75 gallon tank.

  • were did u get the rocks and how many gallon tank is that...plz reply

  • u may go rivers to find them :D where you live maybe ill help you if u closer to me ill send you some :D

  • Love the pebbles :D

  • simply awesome

  • Thanks

  • Thank you for using smooth rocks!!!!!!!!

I hate it when these kids use sharp edged rocks. 5 stars for smooth rocks!!

  • Hi.

I see, you very paid attention to rocks configuration. I want set up Tanganyika cichlids at my home, and i decided use smooth rocks. But, how they not falls? I dint see some silicone... Maybe they are so big, that can not fall... And, if my fishes will dig ground - it will not cause stone fall

    Excuse me for my english

  • I always used styrofoam on the bottum under the sand. You have to stack bigger at the bottum then smaller at the top. If you think you have tomany rocks on the bottum, you don't. You will be suprised how good it looks just try it. :)

  • I agree, I don't like the look of the sharp edge rocks either, the rounded rocks have a good look to them, the look that I want anyways, thanks for checking it out.

  • what is the name of the light blueish purpleish fish at 0:26?

  • nice setup!

  • what the pinky pinky african chichlid is that wad it call ?

  • nice set up but i think u should of chose a better song

  • I know, the song sucks, I can't change it now though, thanks for the complement on the tank though.

  • Nice Setup Ed- I like the smooth rocks and your cabinet. I was thinking of switching my substrate to sand like yours in the future. Check my tank.

  • I like your tank, I do think black sand would look good in it if you wanted to switch.

  • so you just found the stones?...we have a stone wall i could probably take some off that...do you bleach them or just wash them and scrub them??

  • just Scrub with water over and over Bleech may not get off good and kill ur fish

i mean if any gets in you tank there dead

  • I have the same substrate, and my African Cichlids love to dig in it causing the rocks to shift or collapse. Have you had any problems with that? Also check my video out.

  • Hey, congrats for your tanks, are incredible. I'm interested on African Cichlids, what species would you recomend me to select to start? Small ones, my tank is not that big, it's just 30 galons. Would you recomend me a good site about africans? Congrats again...

  • nice set up. poor choice of music though.

  • Agreed. I cannot stand people who post videos with lame music. Especially good videos with terrible music like this.

  • Great looking cichlids and tank. Which is your most aggressive and what breeds in your tank?

  • how do you clean the sand?

  • were did you get the stones???

  • I collected them from around my house, just made sure they were washed first and made sure they didn't have any chemicals on them (pestacides, fertalizers, etc.)

  • You can buy stones very similiar at large Home Depots in garden area.

  • what is the name of the song? and very pretty cichlids

  • Finger 11 - One Thing

    Thanks.

  • What type of filter are you using, because it looks very clean especially since you can't use an under-gravel filter with sand.

  • at the time this was made I was using 2 Penguin 350's, now I have 1 Penguin 350 and 1 Aquaclear 110.

  • I jsut bought a 55g aquarium and I was wondering wether or not to buy African Cichlids or Cental American Cichlids, any thoughts? Nice tank and fish they look very happy.

  • If you pick African cichlids (specificly Mbunas), you will be able to have more in a 55 than if you go with CA cichlids. You could always look into a planted tank with a few peaceful dwarf cichlids from SA, but it is really a personal choice of which you like better.

  • Yeah thanks. I know it's more of a personal choice but i've had and loved both, I have all winter to decide basically but I would absolutely fit a lot more color into a tank with Africans.

  • Excellent!! very professional. I like the "Moai" detail.

  • Thanks.

  • how many pounds of sand do i need for my 40 gallon?

  • I would get about 1 pound per gallon, so 40 pounds of sand should be fine. When you add it to the tank, you will want it to be about an inch deep, no more than an inch and a half.

  • how many gallons?

  • 75 gallons.

  • love the way you put the rocks

  • Thanks!

  • Where did you get the little stonehenge guy? He is awesome!

  • I got it from a local pet shop. I have seen it at other ones also, I think it should be avalable at most pet shops, I have seen it online too at the pet supply sites.
