Hard to say, all I know is that the 122 beat the abrams in a comparison made by discovery channel, and that the 122 currently has a computer system superior to the ones of other tanks.

However, I'd imagine the difference is narrow enough to make it virtually solely a matter of crew performance.

The main difference between the Strv 122 and the standard Leo 2A5 is the armor and the tactical command and control system, our tanks also have French smoke dispensers from Galix.

We had these tanks when I did my mileary service, exept some exuipment that was delayed. I have dríven the leopard (STRV 122) during 98-99 about 3000 Km or 1900 miles during one year. I've always held STRV 122 as the "TOP GUN". Not only the best equipment, but also crews that are educated to do what is needed, in (depending of position of the tank), in between 10-15 mounths. These crews still beat the countries with no conscription, look at stats in the world championships for tanks...

Räfflad pipa har nackdelen att det ger högre slitage på pipan och projektilen får en lägre utgångshastighet än i en slätborrad pipa men får i stället en betydligt högre precision. Detta har resulterat i att man under lång tid valt att räffla piporna. Men sen utvecklades projektiler med fenor vilket tar bort behovet för räfflad pipa. Har ingen aning varför britterna väljer att fortsätta med räfflad pipa. Kan vara användandet av någon typ av projektil de inte vill kasta på högen riktigt än.

@Erfaroth Ja, det är lite märkligt att t o m på Challenger 2 så valde de den modellen. Britterna är iofs konservativa och de har länge haft doktrinen att det inte skall skjutas för mycket. Även bland infanteriet vilket låg till grund för designen på L85A2.

@Stromberg91 svara kan bara den som vill. Jag är en flyg nörd och kan väldigt lite om stridvagnar mer än vad de är kapabla till och vikten av att slå ut dem. Snackar du om det som i engelska kalla "smoothe bore" .. issåfall har T-80an det med och massa andra. Nån som orkar kan ju komma in och förklara smoothe bore.... å varför det är så vanligt, förr i tiden var ju räfflat perfect för allt artilleri. Nån energisk jäkel som gillar och skriva borde ju komma in här ....

Grejjen e att challengern har en räfflad kanon och kan skjuta länge med bättre precison. När de invaderade irak 2003, så ska det ha rapporterats ut att en challenger slog ut en irakisk tank på 5200 m. De e mer än 1200 m längre än vad leo å m1a fixar. Så såsom jag fattat de e räfflad mkt bättre, men kanske har fel de e de jag vill få reda på=))

De skjuter långa projektiler nuförtiden som inte stabiliseras med hjälp av rotation utan behöver fenor, och när de nu har fenor kan man lika gärna sluta och räfla eldröret. Projektiler med fenor funkar bäst om de INTE roterar.

Men engelsmännen fortsätter och kör på vänster sida.

Before Desert Storm, most experts regarded the T-72 as a tough match against the M1. The M1 was considered a superior tank, but the T-72 was thought to be a tank that could fight it.

However, in actual combat situations, we learned that the M1 was a far superior tank to the T-72. There was literally no comparison between them.

While data may show something, it is impossible to simulate real world conditions. Until the 122 operates in combat, it is impossible to know.

Leopard is a proven tank and has none of those weekness. Because iis a diesel engine it works pretty much everywere. Real world conditions = drills and maouvers, it works everywere. Seperate the condition o the crew from the data of the tank. It has done the same thing as M1 in combat, exept the target wasnt old russian tanks that time.

The Leopard 2 has never been in combat. It has never fought other tanks. For someone to assert it is the best tank in the world is premature.

Maneuver and drills is not real world. It is still artificial. Until you can actually see how the tank acts in combat, it is unwise to assert a particular tank is the best in the world.

The Leopard has been to war, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan (no tank vs. tank battles).

But as I said, western tanks are more or less identical.

Apparently, you don't know what simulations mean, there's been comparing between the models, testing of the armor as well as the main gun, testing in reality and doing advanced computer simulations through the defense simulators. It's not like playing a video game if that's what you thought.

You can do simulation of thigs, where you know materials precisely. I did thermomechanical simulations of materials during soldering. But nobody can simulate unknown tnaks as armor structures and top ammo are kept in secret by both sides. Its just type of marketing useless for real machine comparison. + as you mentioned T80, T90 and even T95 which is only prototype - T80 is used in U version. T90 has unknown composite armour + Kontakt5 RA is secret too..

Another things are behavior on field, crews, weather + climate etc.. these are all important factors and simulation including all these levels will need supercomputer, which maybe will be build in 2050 or later :] All you can simulate is highly theoretical shit based on known basics.

It would be cheaper and easier to set up local conventional war on some deserted island to see real results.

Den som visas på filmen är faktiskt Stridsvagn 122. Inte Stridsfordon 90. Det är ingen APC i filmen utan en tank, den svenska versionen av Leopard 2, alltså Stridsvagn 122. Det står dessutom både i filmens titel, information samt på försvarets hemsida ;)
