It's obvious what happened.

Seth was having a horrible day when his beloved Eirika kept worrying over her own twin brother, so he began poking holes in the castle with his spear when it started to rain. Then he got even MORE pissed when his armor began to rust, and took it upon himself to murder everyone in the castle.

Not necessarily, if you just give them the silencer skill without assigning a different animation, it will still work. So it will just look like a regular critical when it is performed. Although more than likely they scripted the battles (I mean duh, look at the opening fight) so basically it doesn't matter how, but Erika is going down.

Here's my take on it. A Rausten soldier was possessed by a demon. Seth killed the soldier. But the demon's spirit went into Seth and posessed him.

Actually in the scene with Seth the Wyvern Lord it's snowing, and in the scene with Seth the demented paladin it's raining. Either the castle of Renais has some serious roofing issues, or Iggy Koopa (the creator of the hack) really has a thing for rain and snow.
