  • When we had the short model 727 on regular service here in the southern usa. they regularly would land on small 5000 ft plus runways. eastern and united airlines flew them into the old huntsville alabama municipal airport. 5200 ft runway and they could really leap off of it. plus eastern called there version the "whisperjet". that was certainly a misnomer.:)

  • Why don't more planes have engines at the back like that?

  • wow, it was really close

  • Are you sure he was not crop spraying! ;)

  • Thank you for not putting "crazy, scary, bumpy, hard, bad, insane, etc... landing" in your title...

  • @flchange you know, I'm probably in breach of YouTube's terms and conditions for not having enough gratuitous hyperbole in the title and description!

For that matter I'd better add some annotations reminding people they can subscribe to my videos. In case they want to know when I release a tutorial video for something maybe 15 people on the planet will want to use...

    Thanks for the comment!

  • @jsd23 thank you for your response, take care...

  • Seriously nice lading!

  • GORGEOUS!!!

  • 727 is the most beautiful airliner ever built. looks even better with winglets

  • @Jacksonkellyfreak defo!"

  • winglets?

  • Now that's a badass final approach, just a few centimeters away from the trees.

  • Awsome Video. Thank you for posting. I have been working on Boeing 727's since 1994. I worked the airframes, and I used to build the P&W JT8D's that power these beautiful airplanes. We used to service a B727 "Super 727" that had the larger P&W JT8D-217C's in the 1 and 3 positions, and a JT8D-7B in the #2 position. Real nice airplane.

  • watch my tribute video of Boeing 727 Recommended for fans of BOEING_727 LIKE ME

  • When i worked at ATC Gasham i remember a dhl landing on runway and stopped halfway down runway to test the fire crews! Also a 757 took off in less than half the runway, like a rocket though the winner goes to the MK airline drivers......your NOT in Africa now boys!!

  • watch my tribute video of Boeing 727 Recommended

  • The front of the plane looks like a b737

  • @MegaGansta24 - the front of the plane is the same as a 737. They're both the same as the 707. The 707 was first, then the 727, then the 737 - they had a lot of stuff in common.

  • @jsd23 We used to have an older "100 series" B727 that had a place for a 4th set of instruments, Fire switch, fuel cut-off lever, and throttle on the center instrument panels. Did some checking with a friend at Boeing, and Our plane was originally going to become a B720 (707 more or less) but the original operator of the aircraft opted for the B727-100 Apparently they were interchangeable at the production splice at Fuselage STA 360 with some modification to the Flight Engineers panel

  • @adecker1972 that's amazing. I love hearing about oddballs like that. The early Qantas 767s with a flight engineer's panel are another - although that was designed from the outset, due to Australia's famous pilot's unions I think. Can't imagine there's much for a f/e on a 767 to do, if the workload is the same as that done by 2 pilots on every other 767...

  • WAOOOOOO

  • A VERY professional piece of airmanship.

  • at 1:28 it seems atc gives the pilot some instructions but i can't understand what he's saying... He says, "...take the runway to the left, follow the (?) instructions..." Does anyone know what the missing word is?

  • @cduluk Follow the marshaller's instructions.

  • The threshold is raised a bit at the east end of Lasham, we used to drive round after a landing to find out where the wheels met the ground, one set of tyre marks started about two feet from the grass on the outside of the perimeter track!! The gear must have compressed about three feet in a fraction of a second. I lived on the caravan site, often disturbed by night arrivals, wouldn't fancy that without PAPI at least.. the African pilots seemed quite happy though! Mind the garden centre lights..

  • That is a 727-212 Adv Super 27 with upgraded number 1 and 3 engines. The center engine is original. The winglets seem to be part of the upgrade package and are common on the Super 27. I've read this package has a 50 knot cruise advantage over the stock 727. Quite amazing considering the 727 is almost 50 years old.

  • Looks more sleek.

  • woah is this like a corporate 727?? with winglets damnn??

  • We take are 757's into Lasham for maintenance as well, they can stop very well so no problem with runway length but still gets your heart going a bit, great vid, thanks for posting.

  • I think Lesham's runway not much longer for a B727, so it was great landing. also video capture is excellent. Thanks for sharing.

  • What an amazing reverse thrust sound.

  • so close to those fucking trees!

  • Copy from TU-154...

  • Is it re-engined with Tays? Definitely different reversers but the mid intake doesn't have the bulge *scratching head*.....

  • @trent8002003 It is a Super 27 , which has the two outside engines replaced with JT8D-217 engines (from the MD-80.) The centre engine has had its reverser removed but it is still the origional JT8D-7 in there (althougth it has been hush kitted so it will look a bit different than it did origionally ) .

  • @ewandougie Thanks so much for the info. I heard about it but didn't know tupgrade programme went ahead.

  • Awesome video! You really see how low it came over the trees when the shadow passes by. Amazing stuff!

  • OMG! Have foliage leaf from the trees in yours landing gears!

  • Man, he had those reversers popped less than a second after the mains had touched. Good job driver. Would have loved to have seen the take-off.

  • is the first time I see a B727 with winglets.

  • looks like a short runway... i believe it's 1900m, which is about 6200 feet.

  • yeah that looks very short, its like a GA only airstrip.

  • @ArticMuse No. Airliners fly very regularly in and out, the strip is 1.8km long.

  • looks like a russian plane.

  • @ArticMuse you're thinking of the Tupolev Tu-154, which is Russian and looks very much the same as this. They were both inspired by the British de Havilland Trident, the original three-engined jet airliner, but none of those are flying anymore :-(

  • exactly!!

and i think this tail mounted jet engines is a good design which im surprised none of newer modern jetliner ever look like again.

  • @ArticMuse true true the most gorgeous acft /airliner built...of a different era I really wish in the future thery'd build another trijet, that the need would arise and it'd be economical and feasible

  • @jsd23 can these transport cars?

what would be the best jet to transport cars thats good on fuel?

  • @jsd23 and the trident was a complete failure the real succes is and always will be boeing planes :)

  • There are still a few TU-154's still in Service. One parked very close to our cargo 747 at Bahrain Internation Airport in December. Some of the smaller former soviet countries operate them despite several safety agencies calling for them all to be grounded

  • @ArticMuse russia is gay

  • @ArticMuse Nope. Very much a Boeing. :)

  • The plane looks odd because the aspect ratio of the video is wrong...Its been shrunk to 4:3 from 16:9

  • my favorite boeing plane

  • This is a Super 27, which has the improved and more powerful -217 engines in the 1 and 3 positions, with the original JT8D in the #2. She's powerful and light.

  • it looks like the B727, but the rear does not seem a B727!!

  • Is a Super 28 (727 Vip) ??

  • I don't Really get how the third engine (Middle) in Tri-stars or Boeing 727 works. Can you?

  • The middle engine just sits right at the back of the fuselage. Air goes in from he front of the fin through an S-shaped duct. google "727 cutaway" and click on the FlightInternational link, it shows it very clearly. Tristar is the same.

  • sorry it's FlightGlobal, not FlightInternational. The second image link is a really good one of the back end of a 727..

  • @IluysionEnterprise It's an s-duct engine. The exhaust in the tail cone.

  • How long is the runway??

  • Where is Lasham?

  • southwest of London. used to be a bomber airfield in ww2, then it was a maintenance base for an airline. now it's a huge gliding club, but it's still got the maintenance base and huge runway for doing work on planes like the one in this video.

  • I was lucky enough to do my work experience there, went in that plane :D

  • the best aircraft that i seen ever, as my plot expirience that i have, thats the best!!!

  • when somebody asked boeing "which one was the worst aircraft they ever made?" they said it was the 727, when asked why, they said because its still flying !!!! best aircraft ever !!!!

  • It certainly is one of the best looking aircraft Boeing have made!

  • oh ok...news flash for me then...

dieselwillie, is it true that this aircrafts are always challenging to land?

  • winglets and thrust reversers? hmmm....I did not know b727's had them...

  • I fly 727's. Winglets are a mod that are available the the 727, not original equipment. All 727's were made by boeing with thrust reversers, this aircraft has bucket type reversers, the ones I fly have cascade type reversers that are a internal style operation where you can't see them visually operate.

  • What a beauty!

  • close to the trees

  • Looks like a 727-100 fitted with winglets. Fuselage is a little bit short for a Super27.

  • if you search the well-known airliner photo site for HZ-SKI, it comes up as a Super27.

  • Ooops! You´re right. Sorry. It´s a 727-212Adv. A Super27 indeed.

  • Check the shadows on the trees 0:45-0:48 !!

Nice landing on R27. It's a little over a mile long.

  • Very nice video! What type of 727 is it ?

  • It's a Super27 according to airliners d.t net

  • ok thank you

  • Is it a Super 27???

  • short runway very good land...

  • does anyone kno if i'm named after this village coz my surname is lasham??? Just if neone knos the history of the place. thanks. :-)

  • 'Lasham' probably has a meaning in old English - for example, 'Gatwick' means 'goat farm on top of hill', I think. So there might be more than one 'Lasham' village in England. I suppose it's possible you're named after it - you'd need to ask your family!

  • thank you, but none of my family knows anything about it!

  • yeah i know but now its not flying anymore

  • It's not in major airline service in the West but it's still used as a private jet (like this one), a freighter, and in Africa.

  • oh u see i go to lasham to do gliding

  • One very nice plane, thing is according to Wikipedia these planes suffered a lot of crashes - anyone agree with this?

  • This is by far the best 727 landing I've seen on YouTube.

Unfortunately, it seems rather scrunched, much like

beginning/ending film credits sometimes seen on TV.

Could you possibly re-upload it with the right proportions?

(Love the Chopin, by the way.)

  • Thanks! It was fun to be there when it landed - a wonderful classic aeroplane!

This was one of the first videos I uploaded, before I had much of a clue when it comes to making advanced video editing software like Windows Movie Maker work properly. When I get my Windows PC working again I'll give it another go!

  • Beautiful Bird !

  • Wow! Talk about skimming the tree tops there! Great landing, very smooth touch-down!

    Check out my videos...

  • good pilot!

  • that was a perfect short landing at a very short runway.

  • Ive seen a DHL land there and it stopped half way down the runway to get the lazy fire crews to react a bit quicker!!

Its not known as ATC GASHAM for nothing!! Never worked in such a clicky place where all the staff still think they are part of dan air. And its freezing there in the winter

  • That ain't a glider! :) Why did it land at that airfield? Took all of the runway?

  • Lasham is a maintenance site for FLS, I know that 757 go in there as well.

My God, he was a tadge close to the tress though

  • I work for ATC Lasham (thats Air Tooling Company not Air Traffic Control btw)and we cater to Boeing 727, 737 old and new gen's and 757's aswell as DC-8's.

That was rather close to the trees i must say, but from were i watch you can never really tell. Nice to see Lasham on youtube :)

  • Lasham's brilliant. I've only been there twice, crewing in gliding competitions, and the weirdness of gliders sharing the airfield with large jet aircraft never ceases to amuse me!

And the huge runway is great for the larger gliders too. And great fun to drive the cable-retrieve trucks down...
