  • Some say it's easier being sumo. I say it's trash. Sumo Wrestlers are strong, but they couldn't run at top speed. Not that I'm offending any of these top athletes.

  • Damn,that big boy's ruthless.

  • Asashiyoryu number 1

  • Asashoryu is the blue wolf Good man

  • wow!! Asashoryu

  • he is beast

  • Loved his response to the interviewer's question after the final match. And I quote, "HMMM!"

  • こんとき白鵬風邪ひいてたらしいね。

    だから、はやく決着つけたかったみたいだね。

    そしたらあんな結果に・・・。

  • these guys would be really good at football

  • He is the best in the sumo history... Unbeatable sumo.. Cuz he not only fat.. He have tricks and muscles.. That's wasup

  • At 3:09 they do some flexs and poses, is that part of intimidation/psyching each other out kinda thing?

  • Hi guys, if I want to goto Japan to watch this, when is the best time to travel? Is it easy to get tickets? Also, can you go and watch them train?

  • he's mongolian

  • Asashoryu seems to be a cool dude.

  • I apologize for being surprised at seeing a man of 400lbs or more life another of the same weight off the ground... I don't expect to see a fat guy with that kind of strength seeing as how typically guys that big don't have that kind of strength.

  • Asashoryu goes about 325#'s, but has a lot more muscle than many of the other sumo wrestlers. Was unbeatable for awhile! A very strong Sumo!

  • With athletes as mighty as Asashoryu, it is a surprise that Japanese don't do better at the Rugby world cup! That guy would make a sick prop.

  • @Myrmidon540

The reason is that Asashoryu is a Mongolian, he is not Japanese. Not only, unfortunately the Japanese didn't like Asashoryu as they prefer slow and diligent fighters. At least, this is what the media say.

  • @yanello

Exactly but its technique they don't understand it well

and they are not that fast the technique is what makes the

difference if the gokudō weren't controlling the sport then

    I would go into it.....

    great post though!

  • @Myrmidon540 How about Asa as an NFL lineman? You need a hole to run through, follow me.

  • i went to see my first sumo match in japan last year. It was my first exposure to the sport, and now its my favorite sport.

  • i went to see my first sumo match in japan last year. It was my first exposure to the sport, and now its my favorite sport.

  • that doesnt look much

but the pounds of pressure when they push and carry each other is intense

  • this is REALLY intense!!!

  • wat een dikke gast

  • imponente este hombre.

  • Mongolians 1st wahahhaha

  • Asashyoryu saikou daaaa. Dai sukiiiii

  • Asashoryu, Ichiban!!

  • Good victory of Asashoryu over Hakujo, must give him that, however I can only expect Hakujo's revenge, cause he is the man!!!

A little request to all Yank fans, don't degrade the name of a great Yokozuna by writing his name as Asa, WTF?? Are you his mates to call him that way? I don't think so!!. His full name is Asashoryu Akinori so calling him by his first name is shorting it already.

  • that is not degrading, rather a show of respect. different cultures.

  • Go my man ASA. you are the one of the strongest mongolian

  • Awesome!

  • If this guy was a guard or tackle in football he could open a hole in any opposing line. If I was a running back I'd line up right behind him.

  • i love this stuff...where can i watch more matches?

  • he is the best

  • Astonishing video!

    I'm Asashoryu's fan too. I hate Hakuho!!

    Thanks for beating Hakuho, Asashoryu!!

  • Асосерю молодец!

  • Lol at 0:42 sumo in blue garments is like:

    "WTF KUNG FU?!"

  • That was brutal

  • what a great champ

  • He is a beast!!!! He shows you that an athlete comes in all shapes and sizes.

  • Asashoryu - a great champion! Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Brilliant. Asashoryu is by far one of my idols of athleticism. I cant wait to see him next season when he is prime.

  • Many thanks for posting this. I've only recently got back into sumo after not being able to watch it for many years (Eurosport seem to have dropped English coverage in the UK). I've recently been watching the July '09 basho. Its a pity Asashoryu is injured, becuase he's not at his best. But here, he looks like a rabid animal - great stuff!

  • Happy you enjoyed! Let's hope Asashoryu will be in great shape next September!

  • so damn sexy

  • what happen around 3.09? I don't understand.

  • Maybe are you speaking of the guts-pose of Asashoryu? He does so just before every match. There are sumo wrestlers like Takamisakari who do much more fancy moves.

  • If you have noticed, the referee holds his paddel straight up infront of the rikishis, thats when the game begins. Before that it is a lot of rituals to get into the right mood.

  • Yes, that is true. The referee looks in the direction of the rikishis only when they must be ready to fight.

  • Mongols against japaneas.Meat against rice. Asasyoru is real biggest Sumoringer.

  • strong man!

  • why does the audience throw cushions around?

  • I don't know if it has some specific meaning, but they do so every time a yokozuna (the top rank) loses the match

  • It's a custom. They do it when a yokozuna loses.

  • When something exciting happens.Mostly when some magashira or someone with lower rank wins Yokozuna.

  • 好, I like dat!

  • The best yokozuna ever, Asashoryu simply the best!!

  • zzzz

the last match was between hakuho n asashoryu!both 'em mongolians.thats why asashoryu are veri happy.....lol....surely damn rich, haha!anyways nice video.....try to upload this years game can?

  • I've replayed 0:32-0:35 at least 20 times and I die laughing each time. That guy looked so lost.

  • Happy you enjoyed ^ ^

  • damn, crazy power lol, he got this look after the fight like saying i'm rick james, bitch lol nah but he is intense

  • whats giong on at 3:14?

  • He's the greatest sumo wrestler ever.... And you'll never bored when you watch him. And he brought the new generetion and new style to the boring old sumo. If he retires that sumo place will be empty it soon

  • I agree!

  • Thanx to your reply ...hope you'll upload some more great action of our favorite guy... Keep up the good work man

  • I'll do it for sure if he will will the current tournament!

  • Well ,apparently he's losing the tournament this time....what a shame..let's hope he will win next one

  • yes, there are very few possibilities left.. Let's hope next time! Even if he is strong, I don't like Hakuho's style..

  • i think he could be little be proud of his success but he is STRONG! he is the 4th strongest in sumo's history! wish him luck along with all the sumo wrestlers!

  • who is Asashoryu

    they are same face

  • The most violent ^ ^

  • He is best ever.

    Goodluck

  • when is the next tournament and where can I watch it I have dish and sky but have never seen anything about sumo is there anything to watch in america

  • Sorry, I don't know

  • asa is a alpha wolf and has the eye of a eagle.i can understand why japan thinks he is brash.but they know they need him to keep sumo strong.i watched his interview on talk asia and was very impressed.he is a hardcore and old school.the world needs more alpha wolfs like asa.and apply his example in our arenas in life.was this the last basho he won in 2008?when and where is the next basho?

  • Yes, this was the only basho he won in 2008. Next basho is in March and starts on the second Sunday. I don't remember where it will be hold, maybe in Osaka.

  • asa is the best sumo ever.i love his spirit.go asa win 10 more.

  • I'm with you! ^ ^

  • i watched a video of hukaho and asa bewteen the first bout and playoff.asa was training working on his sumo and hukaho was gettin his hair did.wth.awesome basho.i have followed sumo for only a couple years and really missed asa.i was awesome comeback.he is like my favorite qb #4 brett favre.hope favre can come back strong like asa.peace and thanks for videos.sumo is real man on man combat for the gods.i love it.

  • Probably it is a video of mine ^ ^

    Happy you enjoyed it!

Let's hope our heroes will win many times again!

  • unfortunately he is not even regarded as among the best.

  • Dude is smaller then most too...

  • Doskoi! :D

  • dang wedgies 4 a livin lol.

  • ok so fat, so fast, so strong, so amazing haha very interesting

  • Most Mongolian wrestlers (including Asoshyuru, Hakuho ...) on sumo high arena are wrestling tradition inherited wrestlers whose fathers back in Mongolia are actively involving with traditional Mongolian wrestling Boh. But most Japanese wrestlers are simply opposite of that Wrestling/Fighting spirited way. Maybe until next sumo generation they will heavily lose against mongols other than pity rumor using ways.

  • I love Sumo!

  • Tradition

  • Moonloaf, you need to learn a bit more about Sumo.

  • We need this sport over here in America. We have plenty of fat people here, but nothing for them to do.

  • LOL

  • Wow! Sumo looks very interesting!

  • he almost kill that guy @45

  • sumo fight big, fighters big!

  • asashoryu's a BEAST!

  • I bet he can destroy a car in 5sec

  • Well, I actually agree with you...

  • Gotta love the aiboshi kessen. It's a shame that Asashouryuu has been so poor in the last few tournaments. He looks like a different man compared to the one fighting here. I hope for the November tournament he does some serious practice and regains his fighting spirit, because IMO that elbow injury is just an excuse. Most of his losses had nothing to do with his left arm, and the old Asa wouldn't have given a crap about a twinge of pain.

  • 3:15 he slaps his ass hard.... TAS!!!

  • he played socer with hidetoshi nakata in mongolia .thats why he didnt match on july and september basho

  • Dang I wonder what these guys eat?

  • Lots of rice, I think.

  • Shit, I wouldn't sit anywhere near that ring!

  • lol,i hear ya.

  • Hes good but he seems like such a dick after he wins

  • not just good, he is superior, he is doing what he needs to do, u r the one talking dick shit, don be jealous

  • Mongolians rule.

  • why do they slap the gut

  • Wow, hes more powerful then ever.

  • Asashoryu is so powerful...it never stops to amaze me.

  • sumo it's great !

  • better than...?

  • Dang, that dude's good!

  • he punch his oponents......why is that? ...its too violence to be a real sumo wrestler who beleves in gods and respects his oponents....this guy literaly hit them on porpuse...come on....its not boxing......

p/d: sory about my english :p ... im learning

  • Yes, it may be seen in that way, but I like too much his high speed and technique. There are many different opinions about Asashoryu and most of the Japanese will probably agree with you.

  • he is the man i just love to watch him

  • Is truth that this fighter was suspend of two tournaments because he played a soccer game in his country with humanitarian causes?...He's the real Honda!!

  • It is true that he was suspended for 2 tournaments for having played soccer in his country, but I don't know if it was for humanitarian causes. Anyway, I am one of the few who was very disappointed for the decision of Japanese Sumo association.

  • Hello,

Asashoryu was suspended by the Japanese Sumo Association, because he has claimed that he was hurt to his leg to avoid going to a humanitarian tournament in japan. Meanwhile, he was playing to a non humanitatian soccer game in mongolia.

I think that it's a shame for such a sumo wrestler and agree with the sumo association.

    Don't you?

  • Most of the Japanese agree with you. I don't know. I actually felt that the Jap. Sumo Association had not another way to stop his strenght on the ring and used that chance to punish him and give room to Hakuho, who is very loved from Japanese for his good character.

If you think of many players in many sports who take drugs and other, I don't think that Asashoryu's lie is so heavy..

  • I agree,

And too, there is something wrong with the japanese have a problem with him because he's not a japanese. This fact shouldn't occurs in such a great sport.

  • muy buena pelea

  • Asashoryu has not lost his Mongolian nature. Some Japanese see him as a outsider. The others love him.He displays independents, which old school sumo fan are not use to.He's strong and very skilled sumo fighter.

  • Asashoryu es el mejor de todos. Gracias por poner el video. Saludos desde Bolivia

  • Asashoryu es el mejor, gracias por poner el video. Saludos desde Bolivia

  • Asashoryu is good and strong but he is very dirty and he is cocky. He often pushes his opponent down even when he is already out of the ring. Some new wrestler will come along and break his shoulder and he will see what its like.

  • I agree that Asashoryu's behavior isn't always yokozuna appropriate, but I also think people give him too much of a bad rap. He's been working on improving his behavior for awhile and I feel it shows. I'll concede that he isn't as well mannered as Hakuho, but to me, his tactics are rough, but they aren't dirty. I often feel the treatment and comments that he receives from the JSA and some Japanese shows xenophobia. I sometimes wonder, would they complain about him so much if he were Japanese?

  • It's only a personal opinion, but I must say that I completely agree with nonyma.

I live in Japan, and I love Japan soo much, but the Japanese are too hard against Asashoryu. I think Asashoryu is fantastic even just for the fact he fights while the public is always supporting his opponent. It's not easy for a human being.

  • My opinion is that if he was a Japanese, I think he gets more bushing when he act not like yokozuna. Sumo is getting world wide, and of course foreigner wrestlers are welcome, but I wish sumo keeps its original traditional way since it is for gods.

  • i was in japan watching this tournament happen

i was there from march 7th to the 24th so i got to watch the whole tournament :)

  • Great! ^ ^

  • He is the greatest hero of the modern Sumo

  • This yusho shows to sumo kyokai and all japs who hate him, how good he is!

He is not the strongest guy in the world, but he sure knows how to wrestle with the strength he has!

  • Thanks!! I'm with you!!

  • I'm an American, who grew up playing baseball, football and basketball. I am surprised to say, that I'm becoming more and more intrigued with sumo. These guys are cool. The "little guy" is very effecient.

  • yo is he still in the sumo have they kicked him out yet ...

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing. Asa rules. He is such a great athlete inspite of the bad rap. He is good to the sport of sumo.

  • mongolian pride

  • he is great one

  • You are really mongolian blood. Bravo Asa!!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I love Asashoryu although they say he's a truly bad boy. We can't see the basho on TV here in Europe so your video was much appreciated. Pls do the same for the other basho as well!!

  • I completely agree with you!!! Even the Japanese Sumo Association has been hindering Asashoryu until now but nevertheless he won, and it is for this that this time he cried.

A bit rough, but great man

  • fast like a snake, strong like a bear...

  • Domo Arigato for posting the highlights! It was fantastic. Asashoryu is da' bombdigiddy!
