@egocentress She will avoid the devil because she will not walk the same path of deception as her husband. She will get to go straight to the pearly gates =)
Great lesson; the fact that we have freedom of choice but aren't free from consequence. Some good hints too; the gate to hell was locked and there was smoke/fog leading to it, 'Peter' had to ask for the old man's information since he really didn't have a 'reservation' there, the dog's name 'Rip' or rest-in-peace, etc. Rod Serling was a genius. So many of the T.Z. episodes are relevant to everyday life situations and lessons for how we should live.
The only thing wrong with this rendition of an old story is the coon-hunting. If heaven is a place that includes nonhuman animals, it would include raccoons too. Heaven would certainly not include hunting in it! I thought the lesson of it was that hell is a place where animals are not allowed, but heaven is. Rod Serling missed the point of the tale.
Exactly which old story would that be? The Hindu "Mahabharata", perhaps? Did you even really watch the video? Obviously, a heaven which allows coon hunting would include raccoons. I strongly disagree that hunting would not be allowed in somebody's conception of paradise. The reason that Rip wasn't allowed into Hell, was because "even the Devil can't fool a dog". He was able to smell the brimstone and his master refused to leave his side .
@Hoopermazing To call someone an "idiot" for expressing a legitimate opinion reveals that you lack real character. You are one of these anonymous trolls who flame others on the Internet to make themselves feel big because you are insecure in your real life. The opinion I expressed was perfectly legitimate. It's a great story, a play on "the Raindbow Bridge" myth, but it does not make sense that heaven is a place where some animals feel fear and are excluded. Heaven is a place for all creatures.
@PaulYorkandBabyVegan There is nothing "legitimate" about the argument that racoons should be allowed to roam unmolested in Heaven. You are an unhinged fanatic. Hence the two garrulous rants that you posted in response to my facetious offhand comment.
@Hoopermazing You clearly have violence in your life that you must address. But instead of addressing it you attack others who remind you of your moral failings. I'm sure you'll resort to another attack. You can do that, but it would be better to face yourself, and what you do to your fellow Earthlings.
What do you mean Nazi? I don't get that? Twilight zone was against prejudice..Rod serling used fiction to show the real side human emotion..They would not allow him to do it anyway else..He went over their heads at the TV stations using this idea..But there are certain prejudices, certain attitudes, and these things cannot be confined in the twilight zone.
@dannyhood66 couldn't agree with you more! Mr. Serling was and still is ahead of his time, in many ways we've gone backwards with storytelling. (the title was an inside joke that would lose all humour if I were to type it out here)..

The Hunt... This is my absolute favorite Twilight Zone episode. "One For the Angels" comes close... very close.
Hoopermazing 6 months ago
I thought the title of this one is The Hunt, not Why Dog is Man's Best Friend

@broadway157 You are correct. But in this era of self-help books, coupled with youtube dog videos... it seemed like a good idea at the time.

@PaulYorkandBabyVegan You missed the point, you vegan idiot. The point of this story is bond between man and his best friend, the noble dog.
