actually, the chip works about the exact opposite of how you guessed. there's basically two methods, 1, the power grab. in this, with cheaper prizes, its usually set to actually try to pick up something once every three tries of X minutes of non use, so if someone walks up first try and nearly gets it, they will continue to try, the other method is to se it to try once every X plays, disregarding how often its played.
