  • NOT CLEAN - NOT CHEAP Study: National Research Council, Hidden Costs of Energy found that coal-fired power plants impose $62 billion of health costs a year in the U.S. Analysis for the Ontario Ministry of Energy Cost Benefit Analysis: Replacing Ontarios Coal-Fired Electricity found that the direct health impacts of coal alone (to say nothing of environmental remediation) add a whopping 8 cents per kilowatt-hour to the cost. That puts it well above the price of its competitors

  • The coal coming out of that mine is a lot "cleaner" and better for the environment than anything else in the world. Do some research.

  • @jovetj That isn't saying much when PRB coal is compared to eastern high-sulfur coal. PRB coal is also lower in BTU than eastern coal so more has to be burned to generate the same amount of electricity, plus the cost and fuel used to transport it.

  • Once the Black Thunder Coal Mine extracts the coal, the land goes through a reclamation process, by which the government requires that the mine return the land to the government in the same or better shape that they found it. For the most part, the reclaimed land is indistinguishable from the rest of the area. In fact, due to the efforts to attract wildlife, it is greener and more brimming with plants and animals than the surrounding area. They're really making an effort.

  • Look what "clean" Coal does it destroys the earth and the air we breath.... Thanks "Clean Coal
